Hi, we are Tom & Juvi the builders/owners of Bärkada Cabin in Blue Ridge, GA. We had a vision to provide guests with a vacation home that WE would want to rent. A place where friends and families could meet and reconnect while unplugging from their busy life. The name, Bärkada has special meaning to us as the word is of Filipino origin meaning "A meeting of friends" The first part of the name, "Bär" is German for Bear as such, Bärkada Cabin represents both or our heritages. We have been in the real estate industry since 1993, selling homes as a Realtor, managing rental properties and doing remodeling, flips and building. With 3 decades of design/build experience we set out to create a cabin combining the best attributes of other mountain cabins in a format where you would enjoy the same amenities and comfort of your own home with EXTRAS to make your stay more comfortable and memorable.
Barkada Cabin represents our first build from scratch. Starting with a wooded mountain lot we took it from architecture and design to certificate of occupancy as the general contractor and builder. We participated in much of the physical construction as well as all the furnishing and decorating. This was a huge project for us but a labor of love that resulted in a second home that they enjoy with their two children and hopefully future generations.

Why they chose this property
We set out to create a cabin combining the best attributes of other mountain cabins in a format where you would enjoy the same amenities and comfort of your own home with EXTRAS to make your stay more comfortable and memorable. This view demanded something special be built at this location, so we leveraged our 3 decades of design/build experience to create a plan that was as view centric as possible with both inside and outdoor living areas.
We wanted something secluded, but not isolated. While we have some neighbors, they're few and far between and you won't notice them unless you're looking for them and then only in the winter. As a second home for us we wanted to make sure that we duplicated everything you would have in any modern residential home. This includes a large kitchen area with everything you need to cook entire meals. We found that we love to stay at the cabin most of the time and do as many meals in the house as we can.
There's plenty to do without even leaving the cabin and if you like to cook, you'll find the kitchen is well stocked and can handle just about any meal. If you like to cook out, the Weber gas grill will spoil you!
You might never leave the cabin during your stay… Four large flat panel TV's and a media room with fully reclining leather chairs and surround sound, a 60-game arcade table, a selection of puzzles and board games and plenty of areas to hike right outside the door!
As a building science (yes, that's a thing) enthusiast, this 2022 build included some cutting-edge elements like spray foam insulation, Zip board, DC inverter heat pump heating, hybrid heat pump water heating, instant hot water at every faucet and a fully insulated concrete slab. You will find Barkada Cabin safe, efficient, and environmentally friendly.

What makes this property unique
The design of our property is actually a combination of floor plans. We chose elements from different cabins that we personally liked and created our own floor plan and design with all those features integrated into one building. In addition the construction technique makes our property unique among other properties in that we used many green building and high efficiency processes and materials. While being an all-electric house because of its thermal efficiency as well as the type of heating and cooling used, even running a very inefficient hot tub our electric bill is minimal.
We love are community, the roads and our access to Blue Ridge. Our subdivision is a mix of full time owner occupants and some short term rentals. This gives it a very quiet and private ambiance. Our particular cabin is located where no one would just happen to drive by it, you have to be intentional getting to our cabin thus now we have very little traffic.
Something you won’t know unless you rented in the mountains before is that many (most) of the mountain homes, especially the ones with a view, have narrow and steep roads. They have no room for two-way traffic and take a long time to get to the cabin even though the distance is short. Having toured many comparable cabins in the area, I would not trade even their paved roads with our gently sloped and relatively wide hard packed road. Our community is right off a main road so it's not a burden to run into town or go exploring.
