owner refused entry even with confirmed and fully paid booking

We booked the property thru. VRBO. We received multiple emails from VRBO confirming the booking as well as self-checkin progress. On the day when we're supposed to check in, we've called the property manager/owner asking for check in code, we were sent to voicemail and left message to the owner asking for check-in procedure. After 12 hours of driving, we got to the property and again call the property manager/owner after which we were told she doesn't know about the booking and refuse entry. We were then left to look for another property on our own without help from neither the owner nor VRBO
