I'm a native of Ohio & my husband Danny was born and raised in Brooklyn, NY. We purchased this property in the spring of 2012. We fell in love with it instantly because it felt like home from the moment we pulled in the driveway & it included a woodland cabin of my dreams. I imagined sitting by the fire with my husband & the frequent visits from our kids & grandkids as they enjoyed their own private retreat. To our surprise, once we purchased the property the kids and grandkids only stopped for brief visits, because they couldn’t appreciate the peace and serenity of country living. However, this didn’t discourage us from creating a cozy, whimsical, retreat to enjoy.
In 2017, during one of our visits to Indian Bear Winery the owner asked if we would like to rent out our cozy cabin. Initially, we thought, “Rent it out?”, but we agreed to give it a go, after all, it was created with a purpose & it seemed a shame for it to sit empty, not fulfilling its destiny.
We decided on the name “The Hideaway" & we were both excited to see if guests would love & enjoy it as we did. I spent many hours digging through rock to create a water feature that would provide the sounds of a babbling brook, be a home for frogs (for your musical enjoyment), & a watering spot for deer and chipmunks (live entertainment). We added the crow’s nest for the hot tub where guests could enjoy an unobstructed view of the stars. We covered the walls & ceiling with knotty pine (for that warm, rustic feel) & created the river rock fireplace of my dreams for warming hands & roasting marshmallows. Our Amish neighbor down the way used his sawmill to cut the fireplace mantel out of a black walnut tree.
Through the years we’ve had the pleasure of meeting so many amazing people. The cabin has been the place where lovers proposed marriage, newlyweds spent their honeymoons, & many couples have celebrated anniversaries. We hope guests who visit will create warm memories that last a lifetime.

Why they chose this property
Quiet country roads frequently traveled by horse & buggy, working farms, beautiful woodland views, wildlife, fresh air, seclusion, peace & quiet, and sense of community are just a few of the reasons we fell in love with this property. Perched upon a hilltop out of view from the road, the 1/3-mile driveway cuts through a canopy of trees & opens to beautiful skies perfect for star gazing
Located on the Southeast corner of Knox County, the property is within a stones throw of Coshocton County and historic Roscoe Village. It’s on the Three River’s Wine Trail & it’s an hour scenic drive to Amish Country. The county seat of Mt. Vernon includes historic gems like the Woodward Opera House the oldest opera theater of its kind in the U.S. & a bustling business district full of restaurants & shops. One of Mt. Vernon’s best kept secrets is Ariel Foundation Park that covers 250 acres & features walking trails, lakes, terraces, a museum, & public art displays
Locally owned businesses such as Old Fool Brewery offer a large selection of craft beers, local wines, & woodfire pizzas. Roberta's Diner in Warsaw serves fabulous home cooked meals & large portions at affordable prices. The Wooden Nickle Tavern has outdoor seating overlooking multiple ponds, amazing country views, big screen TV´s, and often includes live entertainment during the weekend.Five miles from The Hideaway is the little town of Bladensburg where you will find a post office, a gas station, & Shelli's Shack. There you can order from a long list of items on their menu & purchase beverages such as beer, wine, & liquor. Honey Run Waterfall offers walking trails and of course the waterfall where children & adults can cool off in the heat of summer.
While the beauty and seclusion of the property attracted us to the area, the convenience of traveling 20 minutes in any direction to enjoy dining, parks, trails, shopping, & many other local attractions is what made this the perfect place for us.
