Perfect for a family trip to enjoy Fredericksburg. The property is spacious, clean, well laid out and decorated, and offered every accommodation 2 couples (and a dog) could want or need! It was so nice that the back house was separated for privacy. The Bundt cake was a very special touch! The close proximity to Main street was so convenient and the host decorated for the holidays in a non over the top way that was much appreciated for our holiday trip. Would definitely recommend booking this adorable home!
The property is as described. We really enjoyed our stay at the Spencer's Sunday House. The property was well equipped to accommodate any of our needs. The strawberry cake was a sweet touch and quite delicious. We all loved the history he has preserved at the home and modern updates. It is stylish and loaded with history. Haden was always quick with responses if we had a question. We would definitely go back without hesitation.
We met our daughter and son-in-law in Fredericksburg for a long weekend and the Spencer Sunday House was perfect for our stay! As others have noted, the property was as excellent as advertised on VRBO. There were no negative surprises, which is always a positive. The main house is big enough for several people to gather comfortably for fellowship. The bedroom/bathroom combination is very well done. The carriage house has a king bed, its own bathroom and shower, and an upstairs loft with two twin beds, so our "plus two" were very comfortable there. The grounds are amazing, with a very deep fenced in yard, historic buildings under the huge live oak trees, and a covered outdoor eating, gathering, and tv watching space. We were greeted with a delicious lemon pound cake upon arrival. The owners communicated very clearly and promptly and made us feel welcome even before we arrived. We highly recommend the Spencer Sunday House!
My wife and I stayed here with another couple. We stayed in the main house and the other couple stayed in the guest house in the back. We all thoroughly enjoyed our stay.
The Spencer Sunday House is well-appointed, (extremely) clean, fresh, and just a happy, relaxing place. The owner has clearly thought of everything for you. You simply have to show up and enjoy.
The house is beautifully deisgned and decorated. The linens and furnishings are nice, well-made, and comfortable. The beds were very comfortable and hard to leave. :-)
The backyard was easily the hang out spot. We loved the long table and chairs, fan, tv, outdoor bar area, and cornhole game.
The owners' communications was quick, thorough, and clear.
We felt like we had hit the jackpot finding this home. All 4 of us definitely want to stay here again! Thank you for a weekend well-spent, Spencer Sunday House!

About the host
Your host
Hi! We are so excited to call Fredericksburg and the Hill Country our home after moving from Austin, our home for over 25 years. We were both born and raised in TEXAS and Haden's family has a long history in Central Texas and has German ancestry, so moving to Fredericksburg feels great to us! We are UT grads, we love live music, we appreciate a cool breeze on a summer night and of course we crave Mexican food and BBQ all the time! We spend time in Doss (about 30 minutes from Fredericksburg) so love sharing our "Sunday House" in Fredericksburg with guests. Please let us know if we can help you in any way as you plan your getaway to Fredericksburg and the Hill Country! Haden and John Spencer
Why they chose this property
We immediately fell in love with our home because of the history of the house but the amazing updates that previous owners completed. The original wood floors, old doors and hardware and transom windows lured us in right away. The property has old buildings as well (sorry but they are for personal use) which include a cabin, a structure that was likely an old smokehouse and a "dog run" building. We enjoy visualizing the German settlers who traveled long and far to Fredericksburg and what their lives were like as they made a new life. We are 1 block off of Main and an easy walk to anything on Main Street but we are not in the "thick" of the busy-ness. It is the best location, in our opinion!
What makes this property unique
Walk to town for coffee, wine, shopping! And don't forget to visit the Pioneer Museum and Nimitz/Pacific War Museum in town. You will love checking out the wineries between Fredericksburg and Johnson City (with so much history along the way) and you will find great outdoors to explore (hiking Enchanted Rock, biking on country roads, etc) and great live music under big oak trees (Luckenbach, Albert Dance Hall, etc). The Texas Hill Country is the best of Texas, no doubt!
