About this property

First Telephone House/French Connection

Unwind in the picturesque, traditional, fishing town of Grand Bank. Experience the beauty of the town and its people. Take in the magnificent architecture of the homes or take a hike up the Cape or Farmer’s Hill.

It’s a walker’s paradise! For all ages. With a Community Park/Playground at the centre of it all.

Grand Bank and the ‘boot’ offer great beaches, hiking trails, golf, museums, live theatre, fossils, fishing and a ferry service to France, the islands of St. Pierre et Miquelon!

Enjoy!
The space
This 100+ year old salt box housed the first telephone in Grand Bank. Owner, Mr. George French, was an employee of the United Towns Electric Company and the Avalon Telephone Company and it was from his home that telephone communication began in Grand Bank, with his daughter, Mabel, as operator until the advent of dial phones in the 1950s.

With antique pieces, original to the home, in every room, you will step back to a simpler time while still enjoying all the cozy comforts of today.
Other things to note
-There will be a $40 additional charge added to the cleaning fee if you’ll be bringing your pet. We couldn't list this in the fee section. Will need to be paid separately and will go to the cleaner.

-The house is over 100 years old and has beams and low ceilings in a couple places.

Caution:
Please note the picture of the stairs to the bedrooms.

-Please do let me know if any concerns arise. It’s an old home that is new to us so we appreciate your input!
