Great location for the Sackets Harbor marathon. We enjoyed the sauna and kayaking in the Black River. Not many dining options in Dexter, but close to Sackets Harbor and Watertown options.
The property is in a nice, quiet area. We really enjoyed the use of the kayaks and sauna. The boat ramp is a couple minutes away with easy access out to the lake. The home has a separate in law suite next to it that worked out perfectly for us.

Beautiful home on water. Landscapping around house was very nice. We came in cooler, rainy weather but in warm, dry weather, you could fish, kayak right off the dock area! And you could eat all your meals out on the deck and gather around a fire at night.
We came down for an impromptu couple day stay and had a great time. Allison was great answered all of my questions & gave us a great place to hike near by (Robert Wehle state park) . Our kids had a great time on kayaks paddling and fishing.
Overall a wonderful stay! A beautiful camp! A couple of minor things need attention: shower head in garage room needs to be replaced, no curtains in garage room, grill is leaking at valve when turned on. Suggestion: bigger mirror in garage room.
Home was incredibly clean, well stocked, and the host was personable and quick to respond to any questions. She was very informative!! The view from the back deck was lovely! It was so nice to use the fire pit in the evenings or sit along the river in the chairs. I wasn’t a big fan of the neighborhood, this rental was certainly one of the nicest on the street. However, surrounding neighbors were friendly, and there was no issues whatsoever. House is a little older but comfortable. Few areas could use an update here and there. Kayaks were a nice plus, and life vests were supplied. Overall we had a very nice time.
In town for the Sackets Harbor Marathon Labor Day weekend and spent 3 nights on this lovely property!! Plenty of space to have a comfortable nights sleep, well equipped kitchen for some pre-race pasta, a beautiful property to sit outside and let our dog roam and play. Everyone in the neighborhood was friendly, we even walked down to the ice cream shop down the street. It’s very quiet and a great place to relax.

Amazing job on your marathon! You're an inspiration! Please come back anytime!
7 women on a weekend getaway and the house fit the bill. The house is nice and the location is beautiful. Beds were very comfortable. The sauna was a neat amenity. Kayaks and fire pit were also great additions. They had a gas grill but we didn’t use it. Close to Clayton and Sackets Harbor, both cute villages with things to see and do.
We booked this home early in 2024 as part of our up-state New York and Canada family summer vacation and road trip. What a perfect spot for us to call home for a few days. The property is well equipped, at and amazing location. We loved the kayaks spending one morning floating down the river. Every night was around the fire pit with S'mores and some great memories.
The property is very quite, easy to find and away from neighbors making it very private. Thank you Allison for being a great host!
It was an easy jaunt to Clayton, Sackets Harbor & Watertown where we went Thur, Fri & Sat. The host was very accessible, getting back to our questions within 20 min! The property was extremely peaceful. We fished, had bon fires, sat by the river and grilled with no outside interference accept the local wildlife! Lovely outside area.
Cottage has been re-done with new floors, roof, stone and paver patio, outdoor fireplace and is well furnished inside. The barrel steam room down by the water is a nice bonus addition to enjoy.Communication with the property manager, Allison, was seamless and professional. Check-in / Check-out process was also easy and straightforward. The Carriage House (semi-attached) was not used during our stay, but could easily be a spillover room with its own separate entrance, bath and bedroom (studio).Parking along the street is a little narrow for a boat if towing anything. One do-better would be to further raise / build up the gravel parking spot along the side of the house to better accommodate larger vehicles.
This little gem is tucked away in Dexter and offers a fabulous view (and access) of the river and surrounding area (Fall foliage was spectacular). There are lots of ammenities on property to enjoy! It was a little cold to hop in the Kayaks but they were available to us. We did enjoy warming up around the firepit and the barrel sauna was spectacular! The house was super cute and nicely decorated. There were a couple of very minor maintenance items (e.g. light switch, closet door) that could be fixed but I know we are at the end of the season and honestly, they didn't bother us at all. Oh and I can't forget about our host! I seriously cannot say enough about her. She was so thoughtful and reached out ahead of time to let us know what to expect, etc. Lovely time. We would definitely return and highly recommend. Thank you!

Family vacation
This home was in the location I chose and the outside amenities were great and house was dog friendly! However, upon arrival the house was not cleaned well with hair and sand in showers and dirty floors.
The dryer did not work and an attempt was made to fix it but still not working and had to use a laundromat due to not an adequate amount of bath towels for 6 people for a weeks stay and no dryer.
The pictures online are old and do not reflect current condition of house but it still adequately fit us all comfortably.
Allison was responsive but overall did not feel it was worth the amount of money it cost unfortumately.

Could be better
Overall, a nice property with great potential, but it needs some attention. The location was peaceful and the setting beautiful, especially being right on the water. However, a few maintenance issues stood out. We found dirty dishes in the cupboard, and the shed had broken boards lying around along with old leaves that hadn’t been cleared. The landscaping needs some major attention. There were visible wasps’ nests in the shed, which made the deck space unusable for us. Of the 11 outdoor chairs, 6 were either cracked or had ripped seats, making them unsafe or uncomfortable to use. While it was great that kayaks were provided, there were no life jackets available, which was a safety concern. The photos in the listing are clearly from quite some time ago. I wish I had taken more photos. With a bit of upkeep, this place could be fantastic. We enjoyed our time but hope to see some maintenace and cleaning take place.
We recently rented this lovely home and MIL suite for a visit with our oldest son, who is stationed at Fort Drum. Our group consisted of five adults and one 11-year-old, and we all found the accommodations to be very comfortable. The home is beautifully maintained and exceptionally clean, with a well-equipped kitchen that met all our needs.
The location is perfect for outdoor enthusiasts. We took full advantage of the kayaks, and our youngest son had a blast playing in the river, fishing, and hunting for crawfish. He was entertained for hours, which was a huge bonus for us.
The views from the home are simply breathtaking, adding to the overall serene and relaxing atmosphere. While I didn't use the sauna, others in our group thoroughly enjoyed it.
On our first evening, we discovered the bedroom tower fan wasn't working. We contacted Allison, who promptly had a new one delivered the next morning—excellent service!
Conveniently, there's a Walmart nearby for any essentials, and we loved the local ice cream shop, Lickety Split.
I highly recommend this rental. We had a wonderful stay and look forward to returning in the future!
Allison’s place is clean, comfortable and well stocked with dishes and towels. The house is older but has been updated. There are 2 bedrooms upstairs in the house and the separate mother-in-law suite is a bedroom within the garage, and it is separated from the main house (but there is a very small toilet and standup shower and small kitchen area). The sliding glass door to the “suite” is a sliding glass patio door that doesn't lock and you have to take outside stairs to get up to the room. The other side of the room is an unfinished part of the garage. While we were there the owner entered the front side of the garage but didn’t come in to the “room part”.
Also, the barrel sauna was cute but it was not working and didn’t appear to have electrical in place to run.
Other than those things everything else was ok.
