Host attempted to cancel reservation less than 3 hours before check in

After not receiving any check in instructions, we reached out to the host within 4 hours of check in. The host responded asking if we had somewhere else to stay after “accidentally double booking” the home. I cited my confirmation of booking from early August and the host responded saying they would try to find other accommodation s for us or the other guests he double booked. Soon after, he told us we could check in. Upon arrival, the home was clean other than a half drank water bottle on the table in the living room and a take out box dated one week prior to our arrival on the receipt in the refrigerator. We booked the home for 8 guests and only had 4 towels for use. My family drove 10 hours and to be told our reservation was double booked was unacceptable. This will greatly impact my use of VRBO in the future and I would not recommend this property to others.
