Restorative Stay on Bainbridge Island
This a beautiful property that provides a great balance of solitude and proximity to popular Bainbridge Island sights. Cooking in the modern, well-equipped kitchen was a pleasure. We recommend capping off your evenings with a dip in the hot tub and a glass of wine around the fire pit. Great experience!

Friends’ weekend in pastoral setting
Three friends, all seniors, had a lovely time at the Taylor House. Easy to find with GPS, access without problems. Felt remote though neighbors not far away. Very quiet rural setting, but 15 min drive to charming downtown Winslow with great shopping and dining. No issues to contact the owner about during our stay. WiFi worked pretty well though cell coverage was spotty. Nice old farmhouse with characteristic features like sloping hardwood floors but updated well-stocked kitchen and bath. Two good sized bedrooms upstairs with a third small room with sloping attic type ceiling and a full bath. Three quarter bath (with shower) just off the kitchen. Several rooms on main floor, all nicely furnished and comfortable. Weather happened to be terrible so we did not use the outdoor space at all. Likely would be lovely in nicer weather. A few little niceties were missing (not a single box of tissues in the house) but others covered like several hooks on the bedroom door.

Beautiful property with a few hiccups
This gets 4 stars because it is a wonderful property. It’s an old farmhouse which has been completely updated in a respectful modern design. Lots of room here and tons of closets and storage space. Beautiful grounds with tons of blackberries. Unfortunately we had some issues arise, some of which were normal maintenance issues and some of which weren’t. The most notable was that we were given the wrong code for the house and spent a frantic hour trying to reach management. I’ve never had an issue like that before and we were getting a little frantic with 4 bags of fresh groceries at dusk and not a single rental available on the island (we know because VRBO was going to rebook us when they couldn’t reach management). There were 5 issues ranging from the struggle with accessing the place, to toilets that didn’t work right, down to a light fixture that simply needed a new bulb (we didn’t ask for help in that, just thought we were being helpful letting her know). By the 4 th issue, management stopped replying to my texts. Hopefully our visit was a fluke and yours will go smoothly. If it does, you will live the place.

About the host

Hosted by Kelly Shannon

Host profile image
The manager of this property, Kelly Shannon lives locally. She is a real estate broker and a professional host. The owner of the property has family on the island and enjoys staying at The Taylor House in between busy rental seasons. We love hosting new and return island visitors alike. The heart of The Taylor House beats strong and invites you in for all the cozy stays.

Why they chose this property

The Taylor House is located in a historic island neighborhood. "Just up the hill" from Blakely Harbor which was the location of the largest sawmill in the world for a time at the turn of the 20th Century. This neighborhood was dotted with small farmhouses built and owned by those affiliated with the sawmill and homesteaders. Taylor Avenue retains that feel with many homes that have been lovingly cared for over the past century and a quarter!

What makes this property unique

Our gorgeous landscaping was designed by the previous owners and is maintained by the same team. Wildlife cross the property regularly. The two acres are lined with lush forest to the back and mature willows in the front. It is private, charming and cozy! The interior design is eclectic yet gracious. Seamlessly combining vintage and mid century modern for a unique look and home-y feel. Our cleanliness is unsurpassed and maintained by a fine team. You will feel right at home.
