About this property
Wide Horizon oceanfront. 4 bedroom, 4 ½ bath, kayaks, pool + observation deck.
Wide Horizon is a bright beautiful upscale home where you feel immersed in nature. The house was custom designed, by the owners to take full advantage of its unique ocean location. All principal rooms, including bedrooms, have a minimum of 12 foot glass sliding doors to oceanfront balconies. Its minimalist decor accentuates endless ocean panoramas.
As you drive up to the house, mature coconut palms and tropical gardens welcome you. Peek past the gated entertainment area under the house to the pool and ocean. Tropical foliage provide privacy from the road and neighbors. Step upstairs to the glass entrance door and take your breath away!
The great room with kitchen, dining and living room offers magnificent 235 degree viewing of the Atlantic.
There is also an observation platform 100 feet out in the water. This is a good place to catch a sunrise or do some bird watching. While the platform looks like a dock, please understand that the water depth is shallow and it is not suitable for mooring a boat.
The great room is a wonderful place to cook, dine and entertain without ever forgetting why you are here. Enjoy the well-equipped kitchen good for all your gourmet cooking and baking needs. There are even a large turkey roaster and lobster pot. Coffeeholics will appreciate the 14 cup drip coffee maker, Keurig machine and coffee grinder. There are many other small appliances listed later. For sure, there is a good Ninja blender for frozen drinks and smoothies.
It’s special to dine in this special location and it’s even more special on the quality white porcelain dishes, and beautiful crystal wine glasses. For less formal times, please enjoy the outdoor melamine set. Eat at the dining table seating 8, the balcony table seating 6 or down the spiral staircase to the large square table for 8 overlooking the pool and spa.
Relax on the soft, top-grain leather sectional, and play a few board games on the oversized coffee table. Lean back on the adjustable seating and watch a show or game on the 65 inch Roku TV.
For your comfort, convenience and privacy, each bedroom has its own bathroom with a walk-in shower. In keeping with a minimalist theme most bedroom dressers are located within the mirrored closets. The 14 inch mattresses are super comfortable, the master mattress is slightly more firm. All beds are dressed with multiple white textured bedding and have cool 100% long staple cotton sateen sheets that feel glorious on your skin.
Take a nightcap under the stars or fall asleep and wake to the glorious view.
This home is suitable for everyone. It’s great for families (there is a high chair and travel sized crib), a reunion with friends, a place to relax or a place to indulge in more athletic activities. It can be a base to explore farther afield such as Key West or many of the local attractions or a place to bird-watch and observe nature.
Some of our favorite seaside activities are:
1. Exploring the diverse shoreline with the standup board keeping a sharp lookout for nurse sharks, rays, turtles and fish.
2. At low tide, strolling on the sandbar with its myriad of birds. It’s a short distance from shore on a spongy bottom.
3. Bird watching. Oceanside is special. You'll see flocks of ibis, majestic white egrets, pelicans, ospreys, turkey vultures, and wide winged frigates to name a few. If you're lucky, our pair of bald eagles will stop by, or the rare reddish egret will dance at low tide.
4. Sun tanning poolside.
5. Challenging each other to a game of ping pong or corn hole toss.
6. Some guests even catch fish from the kayaks or platform at high tide.
7. Chilling under the stars with a glass of wine while listening to the gentle waves lap along the beach.
Despite what nature throws at us from time to time, be it a hurricane or the Ibis coming to the pool for a drink, Horizon is the place to be! Whether you enjoy a coffee on observation platform to relish sunrise over the Atlantic, enjoy all the activities the ocean offers or bask in the warm afterglow of a spectacular sunset in the pool, Horizon is the ultimate vacation! Pool and Spa Heat is an option at $32.00/day. You must ask for it separately either before or during your stay. Pool heat is set to 88 degrees and the spa to 102.
Other Places to visit and activities close by:,
1. Florida Keys Overseas Heritage Trail for walking or biking is directly across Overseas Highway and accessible from Kyle Ave or Peachtree Ave.
2. Sunset Bay Park, Grassy Key, great sunsets!
3. Kite boarding lessons/rentals at Grassy Flats
4. Dolphin Research Center
5. Fishing charters
6. Snorkeling or scuba trips
7. Walk the 7 mile bridge
8. Visit Crane Hammock and get a pedicure from the fish.

Other Useful information:
1. there are many great restaurants within a few miles, the closest our favorite is within walking distance two doors east called Hideaway Cafe.
2. Publix, Winn Dixie and Walgreens are about 7 miles West.
3. Easy access to anywhere in the Keys since you're right on the only road, Overseas Highway, that is continuous throughout
4. Flocks of ibis may occasionally descend upon the pool for a drink; great for pictures, but they leave a mess. There is a hose. Sorry for their bad manners.
5. Sea grass, the primary food source of endangered turtles washes up on shore at times. Sargassum, home to many small fish and sea life, may be a nuisance. It is prevalent along the south Atlantic coast, the Caribbean and the Gulf at certain times of the year.
6. There is a security camera on the balcony east side that looks out at the ocean for inclement weather with no view at seating or the house. There is also a security camera on the west side of the next door house on the chimney pointed at the parking area so we know when the maid arrives.
7. Pool service happens every Monday. Please understand that when you are on direct ocean frontage, at times of high wind, some leaf or sand may enter the pool. We provide a leaf basket if that happens.
We hope that you decide to accept our hospitality at Horizon and look forward to greeting you.
Sincerely,
Karen and Roman

About the host
Hosted by Karen and Roman Serbinski

Karen and I have travelled the world and stayed in accommodations ranging from desert tents to glamorous castles both on and off the beaten path. When we set out to create our own rental property for travellers, we tried to create an experience that we would have appreciated had we encountered it on our own travels. That's why Horizon is equipped with everything you might need for a very comfortable stay. It is also why the property was set up as to take advantage of its unique setting. Our own experience as visitors has given us some very helpful insights as to what really matters when people leave home. The last thing you want is to run out of dish soap or toilet paper right when your special family gathering is about to begin. We really hope that we remembered enough of everything to make your vacation one that you remember, and hopefully, brag about to your firends. Naturally, we would very much appreciate your next visit to Horizon.
Why they chose this property
Outside of the bustle of crowded beaches, spectacular view, plenty of elbow room and yet not far from restaurants, shopping and interesting venues.
What makes this property unique
When we designed and built this house and property in 2021, we set out to make it take full advantage of the main reason anyone would want to visit the Florida Keys. Yes, it's the view, and not just that, every room has its own wide slice of it. Since 2021 there have been a few copy cats who tried to duplicate this on narrow lots or crowded subdivisions. We think our Horizon is still the best.
