A Week at the Lake
Spacious for our family of 12. Kitchen and baths need some updating and cleaning. Pots and pans were scarce and needed constant tending. Scorched easily, even at lower temps. Grounds, dock and parking were a 10. We had a pontoon boat for three days and all enjoyed the experience greatly. Kayaks and canoes were used by the younger cousins and by the time we left, all were proficient sailors. Bedrooms were spacious. Again, found the mattress pads dingy, blankets and bedspreads questionable. As for the bath, in fact, all doors squeaky and rarely easily secured. Toilets, sinks and showers worked and drained well. Three, actually 2 upstairs baths were a challenging for the numbers who had to use them morning and night. All that being said, everyone said they loved their week on Shadow Trail Lodge. Tried to contact property manager, left voice mail regarding the check out procedure. No response

Perfect family vacation
The Lodge was the perfect place to spend a week with my wife, three daughters and their family's. In total there were eleven of us, each of us having a very comfortable bedroom arrangement. The property was very well maintained, clean, and comfortable. The location was superb, three miles from Walloon Village. The views of the lake were exceptional, easy access to the water, dock and water toys. Definitely give this property a perfect 5 star rating.

Fantastic property and hospitality
Our family loved the Lodge and had a fantastic trip. The property is wonderful and the lodge has the charm of a classic historical log home combined with all of the modern comforts of modern appliances, ample kitchen supplies, a/c, etc. We enjoyed the sandy bottom swimming area and docked our boat for easy access to boat rides. We enjoyed the kayaks and paddleboard as well. The host and the property caretaker were very helpful and responsive to our questions and we highly recommend renting this property for larger groups / extended family vacation. We will plan to be back again in the future.

Another good time!
The Lodge is a special place. This year we especially appreciated the location - It's a quiet spot, protected from some of the weather that blew through. Thanks for another great vacation on Walloon!

About the host

Host profile image
I am fourth generation at Walloon Lake and have lived here seasonally, summers and winters, for 59 years. Four years ago, I liked it so much I became a year round resident.!

I love the history and traditions of Walloon, which inevitably are about the great experiences and memories created and shared with family and friends.

My two older brothers and younger sister reunite with our families every summer and mix old memories with new. The photo above, is a 1952 Chris Craft Utility 22, which my grandfather Bud Parrish purchased new. It's a perfect compliment to the timeless warmth and authenticity of the Lodge.

Why they chose this property

Everyone knows the Shadow Trails Inn!! The Inn. Originally constructed as a Fishing Lodge in 1909, the Lodge has hosted families from across the US. for more than 100 years.

It was serving guests when Ernest Hemingway lived and fished on Walloon as a boy. It served public dinners in the old dining hall ( since removed) to my mother as a child and later my parents and their friends. When I was a teenager, The Inn hosted water ski tournaments and I'd spend the day on the shore with hundreds of others waiting my turn to crash and splash.

The Inn has had only a handful of owners, and when the opportunity arose to purchase, I jumped on it and have spent the last 6 years updating and improving the Lodge experience.

What makes this property unique

The Shadow Trails Inn has these great family features:

Location- Most winds on Walloon are N/NW. The lodge faces east and is shielded by a dense forest of mature Michigan pines. The lack of strong wind makes it possible to swim, kayak, canoe , tube, boat or just relax in the protected outdoor calm all day long.

Lake bottom- sandy til the end of the dock

Lot- wide, and flat, ideal for outdoor activities and family fun.

Proximity to lake- The Lodge is only 50 feet from water's edge, well inside modern setbacks. There are steps leading from the flagstone patio to the water.

Bedrooms- every bedroom has a lake view ! Every bedroom is oversized, big. No fighting over who gets the better room !!
