About Surf City Rentals
Owner. This beach home was one of the first properties right on beautiful and quiet Corcorran Lagoon. The road is private and gated, so only the cars of the residents are able to come in. This beach is wonderful, large and you can always find a nice place to be as comfortable as possible. Easy access to the sand too, as it is only the 3 steps to the patio, the seven steps to the driveway, and a straight and level shot to the sand. If you tell the kids to sit in the beach out front, you can keep an eye on them from the house and the patios.
Surf City Rentals purchased this House in 1991
Why Surf City Rentals chose Eastside Santa Cruz
Wonderful and sunniest part of Santa Cruz and Monterey Bay. Best beach in region - campfires and quiet. In the quiet middle of the Santa Cruz Beach Sun Belt! It is definitely a great find, and worth a bit of a splurge.
What makes this House unique
Nature and Beauty. Water on two sides. Private and quiet. Very special place.
100% refund if cancelled at least 60 days before arrival date.
Fun at the beach
The home was old and the entire home smelled of cat urine or mold—we could not make up our mind as to what is was but it wasn’t pleasant. Bedding and towels need updating for the price we paid. But the location to the beach made up for some of issues. With 4 little ones from 4 to 7 the house was walking distance to the beach. The hot tub worked out great for my nephew who is on oxygen 24/7 due to having survived cancer and sitting in the hot tub at night eased his sore muscles. We all felt the property was over priced for what we got but the walking distance to the beach made up for it. I would not rent this property again unless that awful smell could be eleminated and the bedding and linens upgraded.
Family of Five
We really liked this place! Comfortable and close to beach! The front yard is beautiful in the evening.
Camera on the hot tub felt intrusive.
An in depth review would require many more words than are available here.
Your house although convenient to the beach is in need of serious and in depth cleaning and attention and you Sir seriously need to rethink your strategy of popping in.
Do you do that a lot?
You apparently live very close to it or you wouldn't stroll on over chatting up my teenager daughters sitting in the spa while inquiring if I am staying there. Sketchy and so inappropriate! You then disappeared again into the night- weird to say the least.
If you really do live so close then why does your place look so awful. Cobwebs, bugs in the light fixtures, dirt and grit on the floors... the list here is numerous, but maybe a direct reply from you beyond vrbo would be best since pictures can not be uploaded here.
Many things in life are sand and irritable but can be overcome and smoothed out with the changing tide. The big rocks however are another thing entirely.
I drained the spa, cleaned the filter and the tub, refilled it and balanced the water by luckily finding the testing kit mixed in with the hodgepodge of "stuff" in the cabinet by front door.
Had I not done that, you would have never met my 3 bikini glad teenagers. I left the weeds, the beer can from previous guest and broken headrests.
The bedrooms and overall scent/smell is a bit off. Not just coastal original which would be expected considering the age and condition of house.
From prior reviews- you whacked the weeds, kinda, in the backyard, but fail terribly in keeping the front trimmed tight.
Like you said in a review reply, who uses the back anyway or something like that. That may be true, but every facet of a listing to be considered top and preferred should be trimmed.
No beach chairs? Your at the beach with a beach house- suggest going to Walmart and getting some chairs.
2 Kayaks on side of house that have broken oars and are missing bow caps so are not usable. Yes, I ventured onto this side of house. I look at all sides of a place mostly for security.
Potential guests please be aware of your belongings here. With only a key lock on front door, street access available from the top, no locked gates and side/back doors there is high potential for loss here.
Fridge was clean as was the stove so ya have that.
Dish wares, utensils, and the like are there, and there, and there, and...
Deep Clean, Organize, Get New Linens/Towels.
Help Us Out!
We certainly did!
I had just arrived back to California that day and I was only checking the mail box, had not been in the house for several months.
Already had just fired the 'new -as in last 4 months) "professional cleaning company", while you were still staying in fact. This was based on feedback from my son, who had been doing 'Walk Throughs".
We had just hired "Surf-City Property Management", perhaps the top local property management outfit on the beach here in Santa Cruz.
Your stay was already the LAST cleaning for the prior cleaners. I did a walk through after you left (first time in ages - was away on Medical leave).
So sorry you had that experience, but the crews from Surf City are taking over at this moment, and we expect the things you observed will be professionally dealt with in the future, as they obviously were in the past. Our property deserves top notch care, and we are already confident it will now get back to where it was before, and even better.
Regarding stopping by to see how guests are doing, yes it is common protocol.
Did not mean to engage anyone in conversation, or offend in any way.
The new managers work within accepted practices/ protocols for quality vacation rentals, very much including how to meet people, and how to be available to hear of issues when they occur. Not later in a public forum. As my number was available right on the welcome papers, and one would have expected a call when you encounter things like you described.
Although we never met, I wish we had so you could have vented, and at least hear I had already fired the folks who had "taken care" over the last few months. You had my contact info, but you decided to 'go public' - without offering me the benefit of anything - your choice. Now done, and I can live with that. Game over for them (the old pro cleaners). New improved game with the new complete management company, starting immediately.
Sorry you decided to take it public as you did.

Incredible location for child & pet friendly rental
The location and outdoor front patio of this home are just incredible. Sitting on the front patio looking at the ocean, or tracking birds in the lagoon is so relaxing. The patio landscaping is lush and beautiful. The beach is about 5 driveways and one street away. The beach is lovely with a nice stretch of sand for walking or playing, and at low tide, there are amazing tide pools at the northern end of the beach that are full of anemones, crabs, mussels, and other sea creatures.
The kitchen is well stocked with dishes, pots & pans, and modern appliances, including laundry. The open living room/kitchen area has 2 double futons and a twin sized day bed that was great as a sleeping area for 3 teenagers. The 3 bedrooms were comfortable and bathrooms are functional. There is a lot of stuff/art/decorations so house does feel kind of crowded. All the stuff is interesting (like the photo of Steve Jobs, and the stained glass), but perhaps some culling or rotating would make it a little less over-whelming. This is not a new/modern house, but it is well maintained. And they allow dogs, which for us seals the deal. Walking the dog on the beach right from the house is my idea of an ideal day.
Easy walk to a beach that is not crowded.
2ND YEAR BACK
This property is in a great location and the main reason we came back. However, the house itself has so many nic-nacs and personal items it's almost too much. There are numerous plates but only one bowl, for the most part. The pans were still dirty but we made due, again. The numerous spider webs everywhere were a bit of a turn off, but the location is great. The Futons can use new mattresses and the couch on the porch could use a recovering. We did enjoy our stay especially because it was sunny everyday this year.
Private, Gated Beach Road, wonderful views. Right on the Corcorran Lagoon, and unobstructed view of the beach about 200 steps to the sand from the property. One of the very best beaches in Santa Cruz.
Other Activities: Shopping, Kayaking, fishing, surfing, watching surfers, Rock Climbing, Boating, Health/Beauty Spa, Hot Air Ballooning
