Nestled against the beautiful hills of iconic Laurel Canyon, the studio cottage offers a retreat from the crowds of the city yet still within proximity to LA's prime spots- UCLA, Beverly Hills, West Hollywood, Universal City, and Malibu. The cabin sits off the main house- features a private gated entry, fully enclosed patio and sitting area, an outdoor exercise space with views of the wooded hillsides within close proximity to hiking trails. There are two sleeping options: the ground floor full size leather lounge bed and above in the loft, a single bed (accessible by ladder).

Good location, small space
Stayed for two nights with my partner - great location (~15 minutes from Hollywood, 25 to Koreatown) but very small for two people. The lower bed works but is quite cramped, and every space in this place is maximized. Good if you're in for good weather, but we were locked inside for several hours due to intense rain (uncommon in LA). A lot of the electronics were having issues, i.e., overhead fan light wasn't turning on, TV remote wasn't working so we used AirPlay. Additionally, what isn't seen in the pictures is that the house is right by the major road in and out of Laurel Canyon, so you'll hear traffic during commuting and peak times.

TinyLA Living
Location very convenient to galleries and many things but Laurel Canyon is super loud and very busy. Very challenging getting in and out of driveway but we improved with each day. No kitchen but able to make coffee and store food in refrig. Loft stairs at a strangle angle and double downstairs bed limited by an attached cushion. Outlets inconvenient. Great for 1 person. Or folks under 75.

"Just a city boy, born and raised in South Detroit... " - asJourney describes.. I grew up in a suburb of the Motor City, home of Bob Seger and Alice Cooper. Cooper and his band, auditioned for Frank Zappa and were subsequently given their first record deal at Zappa's house, nicknamed The Cabin', just a few doors down the street on Laurel Canyon. Above me too I've been told the neighboring parcel that abuts my land is owned by none other than Jacob Dylan, gifted him by his legendary Dad, Bob! Lots of star musical energy still pulsates through these hills. As a garage band member in college, It's a thrill to feel even a tiny part related to this block of cultural history in the American Experience. The rural beauty provides a fresco that preserves all the glamour and talent and continues to inspire any who visit or live here. I enjoy walking my dog in the hills, encountering nature and often wildlife just outside my door; love playing tennis, hiking, running nearby trails, surfing, and singing to my guitar or any who'll listen. Writing and reading Poetry is a fun hobby when the muse beckons.

Why they chose this property

Mostly of course I enjoy the hills, the oak trees, Laurel Bays, and shrubs, the perfect climate- usually warm but duly cold in winter, the owls that hoot during their night watches, the coyotes that patrol and dash around, and the occasional deer that forage the hillsides. Nature is managing to exist here, a bastion of wilderness, hearkening back to ancient times when cars didn't busy us along.

What makes this property unique

Our main house- a ranch style bungalow built in 1959 , and 'The Little House' - modeled after an English Garden House built in 2019, blend in with the original character of the Canyon as they retain a feel of the past but sport the new energy of renovations we've made. The fact that the Santa Monica Mountains/Hollywood Hills are a few steps from my door offer an immediacy of contact with the Canyon wildlife. I've seen large hawks eating snakes, coyotes in their tawny coats and green eyes, bucks and does with bambi-like fawns, all on the hill in the backyard. I can jog nature trails, cycle streets with panoramic views of the valley and Pacific Ocean, play tennis or swim at local parks or UCLA, patronize a plethora of Zag rated restaurants, or get on a freeway to head to LAX or a thousand points of interest. Malibu is a 40 minute drive; Palm Springs is 2 hours, San Diego- 3 hours away.
