About this property

Historic East side. Peaceful garden. Walk to the Plaza & Canyon Rd

** Summer 2024 - Cooling units (mini-splits) for the casa and casita! **

Casa de colores is a beautiful, unique property with tranquil outdoor spaces in a quiet historic neighbhorhood. Yet, it's walking
distance to the Plaza and Canyon Road. The casa blends traditional elements but has modern comforts, including radiant in floor heat, throughout, keeping it warm in winter, and efficient cooling for the summer.

This adobe home features vigas in most rooms, latillas in an expansive kitchen, indoor and outdoor kiva fireplaces, a portal for morning coffee and evening meals. The casa has 2200 square feet all on one floor. The 500 sq ft casita is on the same property with small kitchen and additional bathroom. The original date of construction is unknown but the house was extensively remodeled in 2006 with venetian plaster, in-floor radiant heat and kitchen upgrades. The walls of the house feature original art works. All on one floor, the house has 3 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms, and washer and dryer. The property has a total of 4 bedrooms and 3 baths.

For more information about the house see (https://casa-de-colores.com/home-page/)
For stays during summer or winter, please visit this page (https://casa-de-colores.com/special-considerations/).

The kitchen is well-stocked with cooking equipment and starter coffee., and also features a large eucalyptus table, comfortable for all to gather and linger over reunion meals. The house has many private spaces so that 8 people staying will have room to settle and find a quiet corner for peace.

A portal spans the entire front of the house for cool summer evenings and morning coffee. An outdoor patio with kiva fireplace and barbecue off of the master bedroom is a guest favorite for outdoor meals. The yard is landscaped with xeric natives species, including chamisa, and aspen. There are up to 3 off-street parking spots depending on the size of the vehicles.

The house is walking distance to the spa at La Posada, or a short drive to 10,000 Waves in the foothills of the Sangre De Cristo Mountains. It is about 30 minutes from the casa door to the lift at Ski Santa Fe.

Girl's Trip to Santa Fe
We had the best time! The house was a perfect choice for us. We were all very comfortable. The location is convenient, private and quiet. The host was very nice, helpful and responded quickly to our questions. If we are lucky enough to come back to Santa Fe, we would love to stay here again.

Great RoomY Home
This home is traditional Santa Fe...well appointed and roomy. Very clean and very responsive host. We were very comfortable for a family of four adults and one child. The property is said to be within walking distance of the downtown plaza but older folks might find it a challenge as it is all uphill.

Wonderful stay in Santa Fe
Our group of college friends from way back had a wonderful time staying at the Casa de Colores. There was plenty of space inside and out to gather and reminisce. The kitchen was very well appointed and we enjoyed cooking a number of meals together. The house is beautifully decorated inside and out, and very comfortable. It is situated a short walk to town, and has a beautiful garden. Would absolutely stay here again.

Lovely Home in a great neighborhood.
This is a wonderful property. Close enough to locations if you want to walk. It is located on dirt/gravel roads which does make walking a bit of a challenge if you have difficulties walking or would require assistance. We drove everywhere as several members of our group have mobility issues. Property was clean and well managed. Property manager was very responsive and helpful on multiple occasions when contacted. There were some user errors with the stove (couldn't figure out how to change temp higher than 400 degrees) and with the thermostat (couldn't figure out how to regulate) but all in all those were minimal 'cons' to a wonderful stay at this property. Would not hesitate to book again should we find ourselves back in the area. Thank you for adding to our awesome family memories!

Loving Santa Fe
It was really a remarkable home. So beautiful and so well appointed with absolutely everything. Wi-Fi is a bit spotty but a lot of that is due to the thickness of the walls which makes it cool in summer and warmer in winter. Leigh responded quickly to needs. I got Covid on the plane but that means I get a do over!

I grew up on the east coast in a suburban community of New York city. I've been in the West since I attended graduate school in San Diego, where I now live with my family. I was a Chemistry & Biochemistry Professor at the University of San Diego for many years but retired to spend more time with my family and to develop science enrichment activities for K-12 grades. I am currently teaching adjunct at a community college in San Diego, and enjoying it.

Why they chose this property

We have visited Santa Fe many times over the years as a family and I knew exactly where I wanted to buy a house. We are thrilled with this location. It's peaceful, has a rustic rural feel but we are minutes walking to the heart of Santa Fe, the plaza. We walk to restaurants, galleries and museums. We hike up the arroyo trails right out of the neighborhood into Ft. Marcy park. La Posada is nearby (0.5 mile) for a drink on the patio or a massage at the spa. We can take the shuttle to the Albuquerque airport or to the Opera from nearby the hotels.

What makes this property unique

Normally not an adventurous decorator, the Casa was finished with vibrant colors in the plaster walls. The colors gave me the license to be more playful with the art and furnishings. Our home is decorated with the art from a good friend's gallery in Albuquerque (Sumner & Dene) and from art that friends of ours have made. The natural burl edge kitchen table was crafted by a friend from a eucalyptus tree that was destined for the landfill, victim to a construction project in Rancho Santa Fe in San Diego County.
