About this property

The Japandi Dome

Experience a taste of Japandi in this glamping dome, and enjoy the mind and body benefits of being closer to nature with the comforts of indoor amenities. This unique space is built with a full skylight to allow you to sleep under the night sky. Complete with heating and A/C for year-round comfort, a full zen-inspired bathroom, and luxury European bedding. Enjoy your meal around a Japanese inspired floor table with straw mats and meditation cushion for seating.

The Space:
This 415 sq/ft space includes: Mini-split A/C system, Kitchenette with basic preparation accessories (cutting board, knives, utensils), complementary Nespresso coffee, tea kettle and tea bar, glassware and a set of handmade pottery bowls, plates, and mugs, 3.1 c/f fridge and freezer, microwave, shower, shower essentials and spa extras, towels and bedding.

Private outdoor lounging area with natural stone firepit and adirondack chairs overlooking a meadow. Plan to bring wood if you desire to use the fire pit; you are also welcome to collect any available wood on our property.

While our home shares the 1.5 acre property, this is our only dome site and you will quickly feel at peace when you arrive. The dome includes full-length curtains for privacy during your stay.

Say hi to our friendly roaming chickens!

Guest Access:
We send a code to each guest on the day of arrival, and will send additional check-in details about the Japandi Dome. Guests may check in anytime after 4pm. We will have a private driveway dedicated to your parking.

Things to Note:
Our space is geared primarily as a couples stay and a tranquil retreat for individuals. We love kiddos and pets, but our property features were not designed to accommodate them, so we cannot allow either children or pets for overnight stays at this time. Thank you for understanding this.

Guests should have no problem getting cell phone coverage with providers within the dome due to full wifi coverage, but signal may be spotty outside of this space (AT&T seems to have the best coverage overall in this area regardless of wifi connection).

The Surrounding Area:
We are nestled in a beautiful rural neighborhood close to Hillsborough, Durham, and Chapel Hill. Located 15 minutes from Downtown Hillsborough and the lively 9th St of Durham, and 17 minutes to downtown Durham, there is not a shortage of options in the area. If looking for beautiful trails, go no further than the Eno River 7 minutes away.

Inspiration behind the Design:
Japandi, known for its natural fusion of Japanese and Scandinavian design, includes the use of organic materials, natural light, and a beautiful but functional interior to create a calming and cozy space. The Japanese element is influenced by “wabi-sabi”, a concept of embracing imperfection and impermanence. The Scandinavian element incorporates “hygge” (pronounced hyoo guh), which brings in the element of coziness, well-being, and contentment with loved ones.

We hope for our dome to be a rejuvenating space for couples and individuals, to awaken the spirit and to help one reconnect with the natural world and one another.

A place of mores…
So much more than an awesome dome. More like a retreat. The attention to detail in design and extras was abundant. Marina was always quick to respond and help make my stay as enjoyable as possible.

Beautiful
For a business trip in the area, the dome was perfect. The *details and creativity added by the owner made the interior feel like a retreat, or mini-spa escape in Japan. Truly wonderful, even the Japanese board game. ;-) The Beautiful Eno River trails were close by to enjoy before dark. While located in the backyard, the owners were discreet and the curtains on the dome front provided an extra sense of privacy. The heating provided kept us cozy in the chill of Dec. There was the sound of the train occasionally, but in the distance and not obtrusive or disruptive to sleep. And I enjoyed the soft chatter of the free roam chickens from time to time. The dome is peaceful, elegant, comfortable...perfect for our short stay.

Magical little getaway
I can’t say enough good things about the Japandi dome. I needed to get out of the house to do a goal setting workshop for my business and I decided to take an extra day for rest and relaxation. This was the most perfect little retreat! Mariana thought of every detail and has exquisite taste. From the tea and coffee selection, the homemade scones, eye masks, luxurious products, the heated toilet seat to the cozy bed, it was truly a beautiful place to unwind. I highly recommend anyone take time to stay at the dome. I’ll be back for sure!

I love the simple things, being outdoors with my 10/10 hubby, our mischievous toddler, and our hound/lab mix, crafting, baking, and trying my hand at sourdough making. I love to travel and meet people from different places, though most days you'll find me at home with our 6 chickens, garden, and the geodesic dome we built. One day I may really achieve the cottagecore homestead life I love learning about!
