We love meeting and interacting with our guests but equally, we respect their privacy. We moved here from Devon several years ago, mainly to retire peacefully, except we are not retiring. We both enjoy socialising with friends, travel, reading, gardening and generally making the most of life. We want guests to have a comfortable, enjoyable stay in our home which we have endeavoured to arrange to the standard we would like to find when we stay elsewhere. We have tried to provide everything we would want in a stay away from home and love it it when our guests say we have provided everything they needed and so much more.

Why they chose this property

We moved from a wonderful location in South Hams, Devon initially, to be closer to family. It was drastic but, once here, we have never regretted our decision for a moment. North Wales and Cheshire is a secret the locals are not about to shout about. The surrounding countryside is stunning, there are a wealth of walking, cycling, driving routes and whilst an incredible motorway network will get you to major cities such as Manchester and Liverpool and beyond you can just as easily get to wonderful centres such as Chester, tootling along country lanes through ancient villages and barely see another car yet arrive in the same timescale as on a motorway. Holt is a small, well served and friendly village perfectly situated for all the motorways and back road locations - the choice is yours. The village itself sits on the banks of the River Dee and, although in Wales, is less than a mile from the beautiful English village of Farndon. You can stroll across the medieval bridge into England or take advantage of the walks along the river edge. You can also visit the remains of Holt Castle. You can drive to the coast and visit Colwyn Bay, Llandudno, or Conwy (a gorgeous location) and be back in time for supper. You can head off for PortMeiron, the famous italian village or, Snowdonia and still be back in time for supper. This is a fabulous location. And I have forgotten to mention Wrexham...we have a fantastic football team. Of course, more locally, there is Oswestry, Llangollen, Nantwich and a little further afield, Shrewsbury. Everything you could possibly want is within or little more than an hours drive away. Thats what we enjoy. Plus, the range of pubs and restaurants is amazing.

What makes this property unique

The house was built in 1799 in the reign of Mad King George and, on its year of completion, the introduction of income tax. It is a beautiful, Georgian Period building that has been modernised sympathetically retaining as many of its beams and features that guest comfort will allow. Large comfortable lounge area which leads to a dining area an on to a fully equipped 'kitchenette' (induction hob/microwave/air fryer/sink and more utensils and sundry equipment than you can name). Back to the dining area and up a sweeping staircase to a spacious 'Library Landing' where you can sit and relax after a long day exploring, with a cup of tea and a book before getting ready for the evening, be it a cosy night in with a home cooked meal or a takeaway (there are two in the village) or a night on the town - you are spoiled for choice. All three bedrooms are sympathetically and tastefully furnished in a classical, rather than modern style. Past guests have referred to them being 'beautiful', loved the comfortable beds and complemented us on the bed-linen. A stay with us is a combination of history and modern comfort.
