This studio cottage is adorable! The setting is stunning and Ellen is such a great host. The photos in VRBO don’t do the place justice. It’s spacious and open and served as a quiet backdrop for our busy five days. I can’t recommend the Pondhouse enough! I would definitely love to return to my new Vermont home!

Vermont Gem

The Pond House is a great place to stay while exploring the Jeffersonville/Stowe area of Vermont. The house is well stocked and comfortably furnished for all your needs. The grounds are beautiful, with perennial flower gardens, outdoor seating, and a pond. It is serene and private with a mountain view. Ellen, the host, is friendly and communicates very well. We would definitely stay again if we return to the area. Highly recommend!

Beautiful property, great host, easy access, very clean.

Beautifully landscaped property. We spent one morning watching the hummingbirds fuss at each other at the feeder, a groundhog (maybe?) on the lawn and the pond fish jump around. The host was super friendly, attentive, accommodating and helpful with local advice. The accommodation was very clean, had all amenities, great windows and super fast WIFI.

Peaceful, art-filled escape in Vermont

The Pond House and surrounding property are beautifully designed and maintained. My partner, small dog, and I stayed for an idyllic week that combined remote work and vacation. The open floor-plan has several well defined areas and it was easy to stay out of each other's way / maintain separate work spaces throughout the week. (It may be tougher for two people who need to be on a lot of calls or virtual meetings.) I loved watching the rain and the trees through the large windows. The paintings by Ellen's mother are fantastic and inspired me to get back to my own art practice. Ellen is a warm, thoughtful, and gracious host. It was a fantastic experience! Thank you, Ellen!

Winter wonderland for our little Christmas getaway

My partner and I stayed at Ellen’s place for 5 nights over Christmas - it was a wonderful getaway! The space is designed as one big open space (like a studio) with very large windows overlooking a pond. It is extremely cozy and quiet. Note that there are no shades to block out light so you might want to bring an eye mark of you are sensitive to light in the morning. It snowed quite a bit but Ellen was very communicative with us and a snow plower came to ensure the path was clear. I still recommend to come with a sturdy SUV and snow tires during winter. I also recommend guests to shop groceries before arriving as the local shops are quite basic. The kitchen was well equipped which was very useful as we cooked everyday! The only downside was that the gas fireplace was not working and we didn’t know about it, it would have made the atmosphere even cozier.

perfection

We just spent 4 perfect days in the Pond House. It is tremendously convenient for ski-ing at Smuggler's notch, as we were doing (just as convenient as some of the condos on site, in fact, you can nip back for lunch if you want) but has all the charm of being on its own, surrounded by birds with deer stepping across the lawn. The house itself is very spacious and well-planned, much larger than it looks in the pictures, and is the best equipped rental property I have ever stayed in: if you have forgotten something you will find that it has been thoughtfully provided in exactly the place you might expect to look for it. The kitchen is very well-stocked with utensils and essentials; the bed is supremely comfortable; there is seating for 6 at the dining table and on the large and comfortable sofas and chairs. And the space is absolutely beautiful, warm and welcoming, with huge windows that look onto trees and mountains. We will certainly be back.

Pondhouse was open for us and ready to enjoy when we arrived. The kitchen is fully stocked with dishes, silverware, appliances, and kitchen utensils. We greatly appreciated the provision of bins for trash, recycling, and composting. You can eat at the kitchen island or on the very nice dining table. Napkins and table mats were also provided. Lighting is excellent for both. Bathroom was large and bright with a very nice glass shower stall. Soaps and shampoos were available as well as towels and floor mats.Bed was large and comfortable. Pondhouse is VERY quiet both day and night. Heating and cooling are very effective and add only a bit of noise, as do the 2 large ceiling fans.Bluetooth speaker was excellent quality and came in handy both inside and out. TV is smallish but that's not what we came to Vermont to see! But it had a very good selection of free streaming services, including Sling and Amazon Prime. All in all, Pondhouse was a perfect place to spend several days in the beautiful hills of Vermont!

Mountaintop cabin by a pond? Yes, please! It was a quiet and beautiful place to stay. The passing clouds were gorgeous and even on a rainy afternoon we loved it. Ellen the host is delightful and clearly puts a lot of work into the lovely plant life around. We greatly appreciated how intentional the property is about being eco-friendly, and there is plenty of fun things to do within a short drive. Plus, there is a charming bullfrog in the pond! Definitely 5/5 stars!

I am honored to have a home that allows me to share the beauty of Vermont. I lived in Vermont since 1974 take great pride in our cultural heritage and environment. If you are a lover of nature and culture--or desire a quiet, private get-away, this place will offer you many options.
As an advid biker, skier, kayaker and all-around general outdoor enthusiast, I'd be honored to share the magic of the region.

Why they chose this property

The Pondhouse has been called magical and enchanted. I've travelled and lived overseas and have served in the Peace Corps. To own a home (that actually has two homes) and allows me to host people from all over the world is a unique privilege. Now that I have offered The Pondhouse to others and I read the reviews and the notes that are left behind, I know that others cherish their time here and create special memories. I have been meeting the nicest people who love the magic of Vermont!

What makes this property unique

The Pondhouse has been described many ways:

"The "home" as well as the outside surroundings with the gardens and the mountains in the background are spectacular, peaceful and pristine."

"Perfect weekend getaway to escape the city and find true peace and quiet. The house was tucked away and all you could hear were birds and frogs."

"The Pondhouse felt like a home away from home."

"If you are looking for a convenient, well- appointed, lovely spot to get away from it all, this is your place. The photos can't possibly do it justice."

"It is a perfect place for a couples getaway, great space for cooking and enjoying a meal and each other."

"It's peaceful with beautiful surroundings, yet conveniently located just down the road from the bustle at Smuggler's Notch."

Come discover the magic for yourself!
