About this property

Historic Adobe Casita in Monticello, NM

Find peace and tranquility in your private casita on a restored, historic property. The casita is located on a 1-acre pesticide free farm growing pistachios, pomegranates, almonds, lavender, roses and a variety of vegetables. Includes all modern conveniences, fast WiFi and EV/Tesla charging. The perfect place to rest, renew and explore Southern New Mexico. Ten minutes from the Cibola National Forest, twenty five minutes from Truth or Consequences.
The space
Your casita includes a spacious bedroom with a 10’ ceiling and French doors that open onto a large screened veranda - the perfect place to enjoy a meal, read a book or just enjoy the landscape. There is an open plan sitting room with a full kitchen, and a separate bathroom with a deep soaking tub. Thick adobe walls and a two large ceiling fans keep the space cool and comfortable in the summer. The working kiva fireplace in the bedroom keeps things extra warm in the winter.
Guest access
You'll have full access to the entire 1 acre property. The property includes the original village store, built in the 1880's, where the guest washer/dryer is located.
Other things to note
Once you descend into Alamosa Canyon from NM 142, there is basically no cell service. This includes the village of Monticello. We do, however, have a strong internet signal throughout our property, so you can easily connect your phone to keep in touch.

Regarding sound, our neighbors own various farm animals - ducks, chickens, horses, mules and more. The rooster tends to crow at the break of dawn. We love the sound - just wanted you to be aware.

Our stay at this property was relaxing and lovely. This is somewhere to come if you like tranquility, as there is not a lot to do nearby other than appreciate the environment. There is no cell signal and the quiet is notable, so if you are a city person who likes activity, this is not the place for you. Despite being a bit remote and disconnected, the casita is stocked with everything you need and more. Michael and Sarah are great hosts who put together many thoughtful touches. We hope to visit again soon.

A Peaceful Oasis with Everything You Need

We were welcomed into a truly picturesque spot with great generosity and warmth. A roomy, cozy casita with just everything you might need looks out on to gardens below. The bed was incredibly comfortable and they provided everything we needed to cook and relax, including some really thoughtful treats. Monticello is beautiful and we loved walking around the quiet streets. Will absolutely be coming back!

Five Star Experience!

This was the perfect place to get away from the demands of everyday life. The bed was very comfortable with a kiva fireplace and mini-split that allowed us to adjust the temperature to our liking. The kitchen was well-stocked with the necessities and some very nice treats. Cell service is spotty so their wifi was great when we wanted/needed to connect with the "outside world". The nearest services are about 20 miles in T or C. We had a nice dinner at Los Arcos Steak and Lobster and a wonderful soak at Riverbend Hot Springs. The hosts were very gracious and we will definitely be back and recommend this place to our friends and family.

If Rivendell were a hidden valley in a desert place, would it be any better? Nestled in this quiet agricultural valley we found - rest? Inspiration? Healing? Peace? Focus? No phone, no TV, we heard only the sounds of birds and wind in the trees. Three days was barely enough time to decompress, and I left there wanting more! But you want details. Firstly, don't fear "no phone". There's great Wi-Fi, just don't tell anyone they can reach you. The space is an old adobe structure updated with all the electricity and water a modern person needs. The thick walls keep it even quieter inside and also create even temps. There is a screened-in porch that runs the length of the casita. One door in the main room opens onto this porch near a large table, and French doors on the bedroom open to a seating area on the other end of the porch. The porch faces the hosts' garden and orchard. I think the main crops are lavender, pomegranates and pistachios, but I was too busy relaxing to inquire further. The hosts were great! Michael and Sarah had prepared the place with many sweet touches that made the little casita feel like a posh bed and breakfast inn. They were available if we had questions, and I noticed them about their work in the orchard a couple times. I could have stepped out to ask my questions about what all grows there, but the patio couch was so comfy, and there was a little sunshine and a gentle breeze. . .
