Came with my family for our first visit to Joshua Tree, and this was the perfect home for our trip. Great location close to park entrances, and my kids all loved exploring the rocks and cave in the backyard. The pool and hot tub were clean and helped us relax after our mornings hiking in the sunshine. Definitely recommend and hope to return someday!

Therese and family from Chico in Northern California were great guests and their three children has a ball. They said they were coming back. I look forward to that.
Dale's place is a gem in a garden of gems.Upon arrival, Dale took the time to give us the history of the art and decor in the house, which added to our appreciation and enjoyment. It is conveniently located to Joshua Tree National Park, and there are wonderful hikes right in his backyard. The property is simply amazing. Imagine a swimming pool right in front of Skull Rock!We highly recommend a stay in Villa dei Fiori!
Stayed for 4 days over spring break with 2 teenage boys. The pool was too chilly for swimming, but the spa & grounds were amazing. The boys loved scrambling the rocks & exploring the property. The spa & fire pit were great nighttime activities under the desert stars. The home is clean & well stocked. The owner is very responsive. Location was great. 100% would recommend.

Tara, Thanks for coming all the way from Indianpolis. I'm glad Jackson and Body had a great time exploring the boulders and caves. The pool cooled after we were hit by an unexpected invasion of cool air, after weeks of 90 degree weather. During climate change, weather is more unpredictable than in past years. Thank you for taking such good care of my home. I hope to see you again.
If you're a nature lover like us, this property cant be topped! Epic caves, abundant wildlife, and many varieties of cacti are just steps away from the refreshing pool. The house is basic but well appointed - this is all about the location. Definitely the coolest VRBO I have ever stayed in. Dale is very friendly and accommodating as well, highly recommended.

Cimarron's group of friends from Alaska were a fantastic group, appreciate of nature and took advantage of the terrain, and left my house spotless even though they were a party of six. I hope they come from Alaska next winter to enjoy the warmth of the Mojave Desert.
Easily one of the most unique, well situated properties we have stayed at. Beautiful location with a backyard that you have to see to believe! Take a hike right up the boulders in the back yard and then relax in the hot top and pool with amazing views. The house is eclectic and we LOVED it... Dale, the property owner provided an excellent tour of the property at check-in and shared wonderful stories along the way... house is older, but is well equipped and has everything you need for a great stay! Easy access to Joshua Tree, 29 Palms, and both the West and North enterances to Joshua Tree National Park!

Andrew was a top guest, eager to learn about the hiking possibilities and checked up for me on the watering basin for the Bighorns in our Valley of the Moon, and turned on and off the irritation to the plants. I hope to see Andrew again.
This was a delightful stay in a lovely and very special property. Dale was a terrific and thorough host. The beauty of the environment is reflected in this very special place

Alyssa and husband were interesting guests from Michigan who did some camping in their convertible Bronco on the way across America to California. I was delighted, Alyssa took me up on my hiking trail suggestions and left the house in perfect condition. I hope they make the trek again.
This was an exceptional stay from start to finish. The location is absolutely perfect, with gorgeous views and easy access to incredible hiking right among the boulders. It truly feels you are immersed in the Joshua Tree landscape. The house is very comfortable and exceptionally well stocked with everything we needed. The jacuzzi was awesome, asd enjoyed a glass of red wine on the patio while soaking in the peaceful surroundings. We also loved being able to walk down the road to Mas o Menos for cocktails and tacos, which was such a fun bonus. Dale was a charming and incredibly informative host, and his vast library was a wonderful touch that made the home feel even more special. Every detail made this a memorable experience, and we can’t wait to return and enjoy the amazing pool next time.

Thank you Kim for your warm review. Your care of my home was deeply appreciated. It is a joy to host to guests like Kim. I hope to see you again one day. The pool will be nice in our hot summers. Dale
The location of this property was perfect. You are close to the popular West entrance of Joshua Tree National Park as well as the North entrance to the park and this allows you relatively quick access to two different areas. The property was beautiful, it sits right up against the desert boulders and is very quiet, making for wonderfully peaceful and relaxing evenings. Great for stargazing as well. The host provides a very detailed orientation to the property and the home is well stocked with all the essentials.

Dear Jennifer, I am so grateful for your handwritten note of appreciation and your perfect care of my home. You showed amazing diligence. Thank you for allowing us to look for the water leak last Friday. We didn't find the leak, but we made progress by eliminating some of the possibilities. I hope to see your family again one day. Warm regards, Dale
Everything was wonderful and Dale was an amazing, accommodating host. He met us at the property and gave us a tour/overview and lots of helpful tips for our stay in Joshua Tree. Villa dei Fiore is a magical place and we hope to visit again in the future. We loved seeing the wildlife in the surrounding property and the cave and boulders were so fun to explore. Thanks Dale!

Michele and Greg were wonderful guests. I was sorry their other daughter wasn't able to join them. On the initial tour of the property, they were keenly interested in all that Villa dei Fiori has to offer, the kind of nature lovers we love to host. I came a long way to visit our desert. I hope to see them again. Dale
Perfect location to reach both park entrances. Outdoor space was amazing with pool set in boulders and walk to remote part of park. Dale was a great host. Will stay here again

Michele and Jeffery from Portland were interesting guests and left two samples of French Sancerre wine for me that were delicious. They left my home in immaculate shape. I hope I see them again.
The property is amazing we arrived toured the location with Dale the owner spent the days at the pool and the night in the spa this is a one in a million location we saw big horn sheep-snakes-rabbits-road runners and very large lizards all from the lounge chairs at the pool over 3 days....
This was a wonderful place for us to spend four nights. We were two adult couples who came to visit Joshua Tree NP. Dale has a wonderful property and it is clear that he is very proud of what he has created. The beds were comfortable, the kitchen well appointed, and the whole place was clean. It is a very private area located close to the park. The rocks behind the place are great for exploring. It’s located about 10-15 minutes from town which is nice for privacy and quiet. The hot tub was a wonderful treat after a long day of hiking too.I really have nothing but good things to say about the property. We hope to return soon!

Erik and friends from Washington State were great guests, and took advantages of all our recommended hikes and left the house in immaculate conditon. We hope to see them again. Dale
I had an amazing stay! Such a unique property with large rocks right behind the poolside. You can rock climb on them easily to watch sunrise and sunset. The stargazing is magical! I had planned a trip to Joshua Tree to propose to my girlfriend and when I saw this place I knew it was the one. We can a trip to remember and were already talking about our return before we checked out. Dale is a lovely host who will meet you upon check in and show you around the place. Highly recommend to all!
Dale was an absolute pleasure. He provided a lots of great details about the property when we arrived. The pool was amazing and the bed in the master bedroom was very comfy.
This property is truly exceptional. We will absolutely stay again if possible and Dale is an awesome host. The pictures online do not do it justice. You have to see it to really appreciate the beauty of the hot tub and pool areas. The kitchen had everything we needed. Strongly recommend this if you have a chance.

Thank you Jerry for the wonderful review. It always helps future guests to know what awaits them. Thanks for caring for my home so well. Dale
This was a special trip for me and my two girls. After a long struggle with Long Covid, my older daughter is finally doing much better, and we wanted to celebrate.Joshua Tree Retreat was a wonderful place to escape to. The three‑bedroom home, filled with unique artwork, books, and colorful walls, felt truly special—definitely not your everyday VRBO. Dale’s stories about the history behind the artwork and books made exploring them even more meaningful. The numerous outdoor sitting areas, the hot tub, and the unbelievably beautiful pool offered peaceful places to relax and spend time together. Even working outdoors felt like a reprieve. And how refreshing to stay in a VRBO with a well‑stocked kitchen and quality cookware. The retreat is a short distance from both the North and West entrances to the park, making it easy to explore early and late in the day to avoid the heat. The Barker Dam and Hidden Valley hikes are great for everyone, but for me, seeing my daughter able to enjoy them again was incredibly gratifying. A sunset stroll inside the nearby park boundary—something Dale can give directions for—was also wonderful.Dale was kind enough to extend a late checkout for us, which allowed us to enjoy the morning, soak our feet in the pool, and then transition easily to meeting family later in the day in Palm Springs. We truly appreciated his understanding and the extra care.
I rated all 5 stars even though we had to cancel our accommodations at the last minute due to illness. I spoke with Dale, and even though we couldn't obtain a refund, he was very understanding and we discussed future options. I'm really looking forward to staying here in the near future and really appreciate the time Dale took to speak with me.
This place has it all: gorgeous boulders to climb and stargaze on, caves to have a bonfire and picnic in, pool to cool off in and a big hot tub to relax in after a long day of exploring. This place has the most beautiful, peaceful energy. My daughter especially loved the playhouse and my pug loved napping everywhere especially in the cave. We can’t wait to come back!

I love when guests tell me about their personal experiences, like her daughter loving the playhouse and her pug napping in the cave. Yes it has it all, especially when the Bighorns or bobcat appears.
We had a wonderful time at Villa dei Fiori. Dale is a very informative host. The house is great, but the pool is truly something special. My daughters loved the exploring the grounds. Perfect location for Joshua Tree National Park and we also liked being directly between the towns of Joshua Tree & Twentynine Palms. Would love to return!

Jenn, Greg, and chidren were wonderful hosts. We talked a lot about the American Revolution and Valley Forge Park where they live and the Polish hero of the American Revolution Tadeusz Kościuszko who once lived in Philadelphia before returning to Poland to fight against the Russia dictator Catherine of Russia. They left the house as clean as when they arrived! I hope to see them again. Dale
About the host
Hosted by Dale Pelton
Villa dei Fiori is immediately adjacent to the national park, appearing as an extension of the park. You can easily hike straight into the Joshua Tree National Park, Villa dei Fiori is an original homestead that has been renewed by a writer and film designer on 15 acres with a saltwater swimming pool surrounded by boulders and trees and seven terraces. I was an art director for films, including "Battlestar Galactica, " "Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas", and designing the pirate ship for "The Goonies." I designed music videos for Olivia Newton, Travolta, and Cindy Lauper. Villa dei Fiori and gardens are a movie set, more exotic and secluded than other vacation rentals. I studied philosophy and history at University of Tulsa and received my master's degree in film at UCLA. I hitchhiked across America and Central America, journeys that inspired the characters in my book, chapters which can be viewed for free on "CelineOnFire.com." A drone video of Villa dei Fiori, gardens and wildlife may be seen on VRBO and www.celineonfire.comwildlife. Working as a journalist for a black newspaper, "The Oklahoma Eagle," I covered Martin Luther King’s march from Selma to Montgomery. I organized concerts for jazz musicians, Baby Face Willette and Odetta, and opened The Bastille, a folk music and dance club. I produced and directed the film "Death of the Red Planet," in 35mm Cinemascope, quadraphonic sound, the first film created by lasers. , filmed in the laboratories of Cal-Tech. Praised by "American Cinematographer," and "Hollywood Reporter," the film was invited to the Cannes Film Festival and played in 600 theaters across America. My first film design was "Battlestar Galactica." I worked with Steven Spielberg ("The Goonies"), Terry Gilliam ("Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas",) Paul Verhoeven ("Hollowman".) I wrote the screenplay for "East of the Moon," and " Celine on Fire." My novel, "Celine on Fire," is set in 1950s Paris and behind the Iron Curtain.
Why they chose this property
I fdiscovered the splendor of Joshua Tree when I visited my family, homestead settlers from Oklahoma who moved to California in the 1930s. My grandmother's sister Cora and her daughters Revenna and Gwendolyn homesteaded in Joshua Tree in the early 1950s on Whitefeather Road, above the civic center and hospital a short distance from the boundary of the Joshua Tree National Monument. I purchased the property in 1988 and restored the original homestead house by taking it down to the studs and removing interior walls to open up the living room and kitchen and installed thirteen French doors that open onto six terraces with pergolas laden with fragrant climbing plants. I began the garden thirty-five years ago planting a grove of Italian Stone pines, now 35 years old,. The terraces and surrounding sculpted berms of decomposed granite have been sculpted over the years. Bighorn sheep often come off the park into our valley of the moon where bobcats, kit foxes, and roadrunners roam.
What makes this property unique
You will discover silence and tranquiltiy in the boulders immediately adjacent to the park. You can easily hike straight into the Joshua Tree National Park, Consequently, we have abundant wildlife. Children and adults love the three-chamber cavern partially open to the sky with a fire pit for dinner parties close to house. We provide linens and pillows for extra guests. Barbecue is on Kitchen terrace with a giant Joshua Tree in the boulders. Villa dei Fiori's boundary is immediately on the Joshua Tree National Park. Our Valley of the Moon is perfect for bouldering and rock climbing and exploring the canyons of the park adjacent to Villa dei Fiori.. Large saltwater pool surrounded by boulders and oversized Jacuzzi spa for six. Many windows and 13 glass French doors open to garden and boulder views from every room, the scent of cypress and French lavender enveloping the house.
