About Michael O'Malley
I am a Chicagoan who came to Sarajevo in 2001 to work with ABA/CEELI for one year. Visited Dubrovnik that first summer and decided that this was the place I wanted to live. Bought my place in 2003 and built the additional apartments in 2008. Have traveled widely and also spend a fair amount of time in Ireland, although the last two winters, I've travelled to India. I enjoy cooking, swimming, hiking, music, travel and interesting conversations over some good wine or home-made cordials.
Michael O'Malley purchased this Apartment in 2003
Why Michael O'Malley chose Zaton
I had not really heard much about Dubrovnik before first visiting in 2001 - my first summer in Sarajevo. Walked into the Old Town and my jaw dropped. After a couple of years of visiting Dubrovnik, I decided I would rather live near the Old Town than in it. I believe I made the right decision.
What makes this Apartment unique
Great place to kick back and relax. I never tire of the views of the sea. Changes every day. The song of the birds is steady. - depending on the season.Only one neighbor to the south of me and they only come occasionally. Olive groves to the north and Italian Cypress behind me. A two minute walk to the sea - great way to start the day with a swim; or walk up into the hills behind me for a more strenuous form of exercise. Two first-rate restaurants within walking distance - 20- 25 minutes away along the coast. Elefiti islands are quite nearby.Bus stop just across the street will take you to the Old Town. Also available is a boat which will carry you to the Old Town.
100% refund if cancelled at least 30 days before arrival date. 50% refund if cancelled at least 14 days before arrival date.
Great apartment in quiet location
Zaton Mali has a wonderful bay to meander around and several restaurants around it. We were welcomed by Michael and enjoyed his hospitality. The buses come and go frequently at stops a very short walk away. The location is perfect for visiting in either direction. Thanks Michael.

Thanks for the great review and for your patronage. You were great guests and it was a pleasure meeting you.
A great, peaceful location with an A+ host
My son and I spent 3 nights at Villa Rosa in July 2018. For us it was a base for visiting nearby Dubrovnik (15-25 min public bus ride from a stop about a 1 minute walk from Villa Rosa). It was a wonderful respite from the madness of the old town Dubrovnik.
After visiting Dubrovnik we were able to enjoy a lovely swim in the calm Adriatic waters (about a 3 min walk from the Villa). There are a number of nice restaurants located on the water within walking distance of the Villa, as well as a small supermarket (about 1 minute by foot).
Michael was a wonderful, on-site host available to help with any questions, as well as good conversation.
Thank you for your great review. You and Dexter were great guests and easy to host. I hope things are going well in Switzerland before you head back to Canada.
Lovely view but ......
The owner was very easy going and informative. The apt was not professionally manage. It felt like a apt inside a family home. The apt really only is suitable for 2 persons. The rollout couch is not big enough for a adult. The kitchen was not adequate - the cabinets were full of personal items. The apt could use a really good cleaning. The patio was full of plastic toys.
The apartment was and is very clean. I have no personal items in the cabinets. Three people stayed. The older woman slept in the bedroom and the married couple slept on the sofa bed and I told them it was not big enough for the tow of them, but the younger woman said she did not like AC. Yes there were two rafts on the terrace which I offered to remove if they did not want to use them, but they assured me they were not in the way.
I don't understand why you would write such a negative review - other than you know I overheard you shouting at your husband about your issues with your mother.
You had booked for three nights and asked if you could only stay for two and I agreed and did not charge you for the third night and this is the thanks I get.
I'm sorry you are so unhappy with your life.
Lovely holiday for 10 nights in Zaton Mali
Thoroughly enjoyed our stay at Michael’s apartment on the outskirts of Dubrovnik. A couple of minutes walk from the sea where there are a handful of restaurants which serve good food and seconds away from a well stocked food shop. There are a number of areas roped off along the coastline for safe swimming. (Coastline is pebble beach not sandy.) Used local buses to travel in and out of Dubrovnik. Good service and cheap. The apartment is just off the main road which is busy during the day, but quieter at night, with no disturbance when sleeping. A couple of mornings we were able to hear the apartment next door who were preparing for their day ahead, so if you are looking for somewhere with no noise, this is probably not best suited to you. Michael is on hand if you need him and we enjoyed a drink with him and some friends on the evening before we left Croatia. Michael very kindly ordered a taxi to the airport for us on the morning of our departure.
Thank you Michael for your hospitality and a great holiday.
May see you again....
Thanks for your review. I was surprised to hear you say you heard your neighbours. You had the entire upstairs to yourselves for five days and then an older Dutch couple were in the other apartment. They left for the entire day at least twice; I never heard them or you for that matter. Found both of you to be quiet and respectful. Cheers.
Lovely spacious apartment
Had a great time in Dubrovnik. Michael was very helpful and welcoming. The apartment was clean and had all appliances needed for a pleasant stay. 5 minutes from waterfront of Zaton.
Thanks for coming. Happy you enjoyed your stay. Sorry we never had a chance to sit down and have a chat and a drink. But you were up early and back late. Thanks again.
Perfect host, location within a few mins. walk of fantastic bay(s) and 15 minutes into Dubrovnik
We stayed in the north apartment, no. 360136. (there are 2, both on second floor, ours was on the left when facing the property) having driven from Lithuania to tour Croatia. We could not have picked a better starting point in the country.
The stay gets 99 out of 100 ... and the only reason for not getting a perfect score is the issue of the road running in front of the property garden, by the parking area.
There are no sidewalks, and whilst one assumes by its size it is a village road, it is actually the main road from the north to Dubrovnik. Noise is a minor irritation, but crossing the road to get to the coast needs care, even to the local supermarket 50 mtrs away one needs their wits about them ;-) ... traffic is heavy and car-driver courtesy is not a common trait.
That said we had a great week, apartment was well maintained, fully equipped for our needs and one could not ask for a better host than Michael.
The coastline, beaches, rocky secluded bays, walks, villages, vicinity of Dubrovnik, etc., all positive. Local bars and restaurants are excellent for both service and quality.
Again we cannot but repeat Michael gives that little bit extra to make one feel welcome.
He is very knowledgeable and we were fortunate to have his company for several evenings, once on his terrace and the other time we were invited to join him and his friends at a local restaurant.. both memorable times.
Thank you Michael ... we may well return
