About this property

Cabin Getaway, Surrounded by Forest, Relaxing, Occidental Ca

This is a true getaway. We searched the enitre area of the Russian River before we settled on this property. Camp Meeker is unique with its logging history, post San Francisco earth quake. After it was done as a logging camp it was developed as a vacation community. Families have owned properties for multi generations and some became full time residents. It is fun to hear the family histories and tales of days gone by. It is central to the RussianRiver, ocean, Redwoods, wine country, and all of the entertainment, activities, and open countryside of West Sonoma county. The cabin is a great place to leave your daily life behind and truly disconnect. We get some cell coverage, but its more a place to reconnect to each other. We enjoy sharing our space with friends and family, but both agree, it is best with just us two. We chose to not put TV, and all of the other distractions of daily life so that it would feel like time away from our daily life. We have shared some of our best meals in our backyard Redwood grove. It's a place to come home to after a day of enjoying what you love to do outside, enjoy a GREAT SHOWER and a fantastic night of rest. The entertainment available in West Sonoma county is endless, via festivals, wineries, and farm trails. Where there is wine there is great food. We are pet friendly to responsible and well trained owners of pets. It is necessary to advise us in advance of any booking request that includes bringing a pet. We do not have complete fencing, so your dog can not be left unattended out of doors and must have good indoor manners. We love the children we raised as I am sure you love yours, but our cabin is made as a true getaway..

My husband and I have been together 30 years. We have always understood the importance of getting away on our own to reconnect. When our last child was out of the house, we set out to find this place. We spent two years looking and two years creating. We did all of the work and enjoyed our time there all the while. Our dream is to own a Bed & Breakfast one day. We chose this area because of all of the activities, entertainment, and the weather. The cabin does not get the coastal fog or the winds that come off of the river. There is sun year round. The Friday night market in Occidental, Union Hotel Bar & Restaurant, Barley & Hops Pub, & Howards Cafe have enough to offer in a weekend that you never have to leave Occidental if you don't want to. We love coming to an area that has so much Calif. history and where generations of families have owned vacation properties. We hope you will come and enjoy the cabin for all of the reasons we do and find some of your own, and then come again.

Why they chose this property

We chose this area because it is within a close distance of our home for a weekend getaway. The drive in is scenic because of all of the open lands. We were looking to be within minutes of the Ocean, but did not want the coastal fog. We are within 15 min. of warmer weather or cooler weather. It is a unique climate location. The towering Redwoods have the ability to grab your attention and distract you from your daily thinking. The cabin is located off a beautiful stretch of Hwy. and nestled in a quiet vacation community where people come to rest.

What makes this property unique

We asked our friends and family to help give us a name for the cabin that best described the feeling for them while there. For Play was the name we chose. You will want to leave the woes of daily life and responsibilities behind and play, whatever that means for you. It's a great place to watch the sun move through the trees first thing in the morning, or take a walk to a nearby scenic lookout. We have a picnic pack that we take to the ocean parks, river, or any spot we may come upon. There are many nearby hiking trails that are short in distance or can take you all the way to te ocean. It is a great biking destination for all skill levels and or the motorized cyclist. We like to participate in local community events as much as possible, like the local volunteer Fire Dept. pancake breakfast & BBQ. We do enjoy the community spirit. We enjoy sharing information on local restaurants and activities with guests. We have a window of opportunity that holds local discounts that we are able to come by for our guests.
