Couples, families and small groups will be comfortable in my spacious, solar powered home located in the heart of Schnitzelburg, a short distance from downtown Louisville, Churchill Downs, the airport, convention center, local restaurants, bars, coffee shops & more. My unique home was built in 1925 and has been updated to suit modern comforts with amenities such as a full kitchen, newly remodeled bathrooms, comfortable furniture with matching beds, fenced in backyard and easy off-street parking.

Walk up a short flight of stairs onto a spacious front porch, walk through the house's original front door and into the main room of the house that features:

✔ a 60" hdtv with Roku
✔ a record player with a small record collection
✔ games and books

Scoot into the dining room which has a:
✔ modern dining table that seats 4 comfortably
✔ hutch with our guest book - please sign it and tell us where you are from and why you are visiting Louisville.

Off of the dining room there is a hallway leading to an updated bathroom with shower and bathtub.

Down the hallway at opposite ends are two identical bedrooms with full closets and full size beds.

The kitchen is also off of the dining room, it has a:
✔ refrigerator with no freezer (freezer is in basement)
✔ dishwasher
✔ full sink
✔ microwave
✔ toaster oven
✔ water kettle
✔ coffee pot
✔ kitchen utensils
✔ dishes
✔ baking pans
✔ pots and pans.

Walk up to the second floor from the kitchen where you will find the master bedroom with king size bed and another bedroom with a full size bed:
✔ There is a brand new large bathroom with walk in shower
✔ There is no central heat or air on the second floor of the house.
✔ Window air conditioning units are provided during warm weather months
✔ extra blankets and portable heaters are provided during cold weather months.

The basement is not finished, but guests are welcome to use it. You will find:
✔ large deep freezer
✔ ping pong table
✔ yard games
✔ washer and dryer

Feel free to use the backyard and off-street parking pad in the back. There is a Weber charcoal grill in the back that guests are welcome to use if they use it and clean it properly, charcoal is not regularly stocked, but there is a nearby grocery store. There is also a firepit in the backyard that we would rather not have guests use. If the season is right and the garden is growing, help yourself to some fruit and veggies. There is laundry on premise for guests to use if they wish, there are also four laundromats within two miles of the house.

Exterior motion detection lights, timed exterior lighting and Ring doorbell cameras provide monitoring in the front and back of the property. Some interior lights may be on timers that should be disabled upon your arrival, however if a light should turn on during your stay, simply turn it off.

Nice updated bungalow
This house was great for our four day trip to Louisville, just what we needed. The house was nicely updated! Kenny was a great host and quickly answered our questions. Everything was just as described in his post. We would definitely stay there again.

Hello! I grew up Louisville, Kentucky and attended the University of Louisville. I worked in the music business for a while before discovering wine and spirits, my curiosity led me to a career in this field. Today I work for a small family owned winery in Sonoma, California. I enjoy being a VRBO host because it allows me to use my home as place for guests to enjoy a nice stay in a historic house, conveniently located in Louisville. I enjoy visiting home, from time to time, knowing that my house is still there. I really enjoy reading through the guest book to see where my guests have traveled from and what they are doing in town during their stay.

Why they chose this property

Schnitzelburg is a neighborhood three miles southeast of downtown Louisville. This area was first plotted in 1866 by D.H. Meriwether with construction beginning in 1891 when a streetcar line extended to the intersection of Goss and Texas Avenues, just two blocks from my house. The first residents in Schnitzelburg were immigrants who arrived from Germany. "Schnitzel" refers to a food dish, popular with Austrians and Germans - try some at Check's just a short walk away.

Schnitzelburg is famous for a street ball game called "Dainty," where a flat, bat-like stick is used to strike another stick on the ground, making it airborne, which is then hit like a baseball as far as possible. Every last Monday in July the World Dainty Championship is held in the neighborhood, at the corner of Goss Avenue and Hoertz Avenue, site of Hauck's. The Dainty is a fund raiser for the Little Sisters of the Poor, and it brings the community together for some great fun. Contestants must be 45 and older to play the Dainty and pre register.

Check's Cafe is located at the intersection of Hickory and Burnett Streets and is among Louisville's better known restaurants. Manual Stadium is located across the street from my house and hosts the Manual Crimsons High School teams. Schnitzelburg is known for its number of "Shotgun-Style" homes in which the homes are built narrowly with rooms being situated generally one after the other in a long row, it makes for a nice walk around the neighborhood.

What makes this property unique

I am the second owner of this house that was built in 1925 by the original owner, who was a master mason. I have gently updated parts of this house to suit modern amenities and comforts. The house is furnished with comfortable Joybird brand furniture including couches, chairs, and beds. There is plenty of space to spread out and enjoy your vacation away from home!
