About this property

The Hidden Haven at Derry Duff - An Exquisite Farm Stay in Stunning West Cork

Derry Duff is a remote, organic, mountain farm in the heart of West Cork, 20 minutes from Bantry and Glengarriff. We have designed and built a unique, stylish, luxury lodge overlooking a small lake so we can welcome guests to enjoy stunning mountain views, the wild landscape, peace, calm and our organic produce. The Hidden Haven offers a boutique farm stay experience with guest services - the ideal place to take your foot off the pedal, relax and unwind, immersed in nature on a working farm.

The lodge has been designed with relaxation and comfort in mind; it is spacious, stylish, light-filled and restfully decorated, with a focus on high quality, Irish made and eco products.

The lodge has a large open plan kitchen, dining, living area with vast windows with far reaching views, and double doors leading out to a BBQ and eating area. The spacious bedroom with a super king size bed, opens onto a deck which sits over a small lake. There is a large walk in wardrobe with ample storage and the bathroom has a huge rain shower, as well as a bath with a view. Irish made, natural bath products are provided. An undercover porch leads into a boot room area, with a heated towel rail for drying wet gear. Beach towels, beach chairs, picnic kit and wellies in various sizes are provided.

We understand how essential it is to relax and unwind and we aim to assist you in this important holiday goal by delivering a large breakfast hamper to you on your first morning, full of home grown and home made food, sufficient to last for your stay. Your lodge will be cleaned daily should you wish and we offer a laundry service. We will be on hand to provide a messaging concierge service. Should you wish to dine out and enjoy a drink with your meal, we can arrange taxis. For those looking for a digital detox stay, the lodge includes a locker with sockets in which to store your devices, locked away out of temptation.

With the basics taken care of, you can serenely savour a coffee on the deck with the water lapping beneath you, looking over the surrounding mountains and watch the swallows soar and swoop. Enjoy a long, lazy morning in the super king size bed, with organic cotton bed sheets and goose down duvets and pillows. Take a long soak in the large ‘tub with a view’. Read a book in the swivel chair with nature all around or cosy up on the squishy sofa by the wood burning stove and play games. Cook up some Derry Duff Dexter steaks on the BBQ. Take a stroll around the organic farm, pick some blueberries and meet the chickens. Or hike further up the mountain to introduce yourself to the Dexter cattle. Farm tours are available to learn about the regenerative farming techniques used to produce organic, nutritious food for the local market.

There are also plenty of interesting things to do in the local area and a list of activity ideas is provided in the lodge. We can make bookings on your behalf, where necessary. A wood fired hot tub is being installed in the first week of December.

We are excited to launch this new property onto the tourist market and were delighted that within seven months of opening, The Hidden Haven was selected by Pól Ó'Conghaile from The Irish Independent newspaper to feature in their annual FAB 50 List of Ireland's Best Places to Stay for 2023.

Bookings are for a minimum of three nights. Two night stays can be accommodated at an extra charge of €40 per night - please contact us with two night stay requests.

This is a remote location and so a car is recommended and the roads to get to the farm are quite narrow and windy. If you prefer, we can arrange for a taxi to collect you from the airport or train station at Cork or Farranfore or from the bus stop in Bantry.

Please also note that there is no television at the property but there is a strong enough wifi connection, that movies can be streamed on your own devices.

You can look up Derry Duff online to find out more information about The Hidden Haven and our farm.

Apologies but we cannot accept infants, children or pets - this is an adult only space. We are looking forward to welcoming you to stay on our farm.

About the host

Host profile image
I'm Claire and together with my husband Steve Collins and our kids, Seán, Cara and Conor, we warmly welcome you to The Hidden Haven at Derry Duff. Steve is a global expert in famine relief and I was working in administration in the humanitarian sector and we were in search of some balance to the intensity of aid work. We found a beautiful, remote farm in West Cork which we are lucky enough to now call home. In the twenty years since we have been here, we have slowly been bringing the farm back to productivity, using organic, regenerative farming techniques. We are now producing organic, highly nutritious aronia berries and blueberries and love welcoming guests to stay in our stylish lodge and sharing our beautiful little corner of the world.

Why they chose this property

The Hidden Haven sits on the slopes of Cork's highest mountain Cnoc Buí and is remote, wild and rural - with uninterrupted views of the stunning West Cork hills.

What makes this property unique

The Hidden Haven is positioned in a secluded corner of the farm yet is only a short walk from our family home and so I am on hand to help when needed.
