Peace and quiet
We had a wonderful long, peaceful weekend stay at Sycamore Shade with family and friends. The river was wonderful to watch the kids play in and listen to at night. It hadn’t rained in a while so the river was low, perfect for the kids and dog to play in. Proximity to “stuff” is not far but remember 14 miles in the mountains takes longer than normal roads. Would definitely stay berr again. Thanks for letting us enjoy your little piece of the mountains for the weekend!
The Parsons Family
It was a great trip! The house worked perfectly for our group and the scenery did not disappoint.
A small piece of heaven
We love this place. We vacation with our friends every year and this has been a great place for all of us to unwind. Our kids play in the river as we watch from the deck. The setting could not be more serene. The national forest is at the back door, literally. We spent a morning hiking the AT with our kids. If you need to disconnect and spend time in nature, this is your place.
The picture and reviews didn't give this place justice.
We had a wonderful, relaxing time! The sound of the river .. Amazing. Buddy was an added bonus.
Peace along the Piney
We enjoyed the home and property which was well-suited to our group of 8 adults. The swimming hole at the river is beautiful and just a very short walk up Perkins Mill Rd. Everyone coped without wi-fi and cell phone reception. We enjoyed the trip and hike at Crabtree Falls, and a slow drive through the National Forest along Alhambra Road up to the Appalachian Trail and down again to another beautiful waterfall just past Alto, along the roadside. We will certainly recommend this home to others!
The highest rating we can give... "We'd Go Back!"
What a wonderful property! The setting is absolutely beautiful! We really did not spend much time inside, as we were on the deck (with it's plentiful chairs and benches!), walking to the bridge, or playing in the river as much as possible. The house itself is well appointed, comfortable, and clean. The bathrooms have been recently remodeled and are beautiful - all three of them. The bedrooms were comfortable, though a third double bed would ave been great for us. The garage game room was a huge hit with our millennials. The kitchen was very nice.
Again, the biggest comp, ent we can give is, "We'd Go Back!".
Fish our inviting private catch and release native trout stream. Great hiking on Appalachian trail, and other trails such as Crabtree Falls, Spyrock, Mount Pleasant, and the priest. Explore the George Washington national Forest bordering the property. Enjoy self-guided waterfall, wildflower, and antiquing tours. Wineries, orchards, and farmers markets are close by. Festivals throughout the area are conducted all summer Winter and fall. Only 25 min. from Wintergreen ski resort.Cruise the blue ridge parkway and the skyline drive. Relax on the peaceful deck or in the hammocks overlooking the river just feet away from the cottage.
