Mahalo for you kind review! We truly enjoyed hosting you guys. Hope we'll see you again.
My husband and I enjoyed our stay here. The location, interior of the bungalow, hammock, property, and view were all terrific. We also really enjoyed talking to the owners. If we come back to this area, we will definitely stay here again.
It was a 5/5 star stay. The sunrise was absolutely stunning. The house was perfect for the start of our honeymoon. The place was clean and organized for us to find what we needed. The directions provided were clear and prepared. The host was quick to reply with anything we needed.Definitely would recommend to others.
We had a great time at our stay at the Eco Village. It's a beautiful property with lots of fruit trees planted on it, so we loved taking a morning walk to see them. The units are close to each other, but we felt that there was still good privacy maintained. There's no kitchen to cook food, but lots of great restaurants in Hilo.

So happy to hear that you had a good time at the eco village. The bungalows are design in a way that privacy is maintained at all times. Each bungalow has a kitchenette for easy meals to prepare.
The property was wonderful and secluded. Very peaceful for someone wanting to be near Hilo, but feel like they are in the middle of nowhere. We throughly enjoyed our stay and the property owner was kind enough to even send us information on Merrie Monarch, which just happened to be going on while we were there! The only issues we had were that the road leading to the property is gravel and has speed bumps. These are nearly impossible to see, and we only realized they had little markers for them after we hit one. A warning note in the welcome message we received would have been appreciated. The other issue we had was that we were sent the checkout information the morning of our checkout. I do not check my email extremely frequently, so I did not see the list of things she wanted us to do until after we had already left the property. We had done the majority of the requirements, but there were a couple of things we did not realize we needed to do. If these had been sent the night before, or even at the time of check-in, I would have been more likely to have seen the message and could have done everything. That being said, I would recommend staying here. Just be on the lookout for speed bumps and checkout info the morning of departure.
I loved everything about this property. It was close enough to Hilo to be convenient, but also far enough out of town to feel serene and peaceful. The place was sparkling clean and well-designed with all the amenities you'd expect, while remaining true to its eco-friendly claims. My favorite part was swinging in the hammock watching sunset, and picking fresh lychees off the trees. I'd highly recommend!!

Mahalo for you kind words. So happy to know that you enjoyed your stay. We love to share the fruits from our young trees with our guests.
Perfectly secluded, quiet, and just the right size
I was as impressed with the set-up of this quaint eco-bungalow as I was with the stunning sunrise views. The check-in process was painless, the host was communicative, and the small bungalow was clean and well-stocked. Despite its small size, there wasn’t a single item my husband and I found ourselves in want of during our short stay. They could have easily relied on the location and views alone to make our stay memorable, but the thoughtful additions of tea, oatmeal, slippers, a compost bucket, and even aloe vera were such a pleasant surprise. I’m so happy with this find, and would gladly recommend to any single or couple looking for a peaceful place in the upper hills of Hilo.

Aloha Jenny!
What a generous review. Thank you so much for your kind words. We just try to promote responsible tourism while making sure our guests are relax and happy.
Mahalo!
The owners are very friendly, we let them know when we were coming and they greeted us when we arrived to walk through the property. In the morning we were greeted with spectacular views of Hilo and fresh bananas from the garden.
This property is great for eco-conscious visitors, as the owners make great efforts to reduce their impact on the environment and teach visitors about their efforts as well.
A few things to note: despite being about 3 miles outside of Hilo, it takes a solid 10-15 minutes to get to town since the private road is one-lane and winds through adjacent farmlands. Also, coqui frogs are in the neighborhood and you will hear them at night. They sounded nice to us visitors but earplugs might be useful if you have the windows open.

Mahalo for your kind words. As you stated, we are paying attention to the way we do conscious tourism at the Eco Village including the compost our guests generate to feed our trees and the compostable trash bags and biodegradable soaps we use to make a more "green" stay for our guests at the Village.
We really hope to send to the world a humble message of responsibility for Mother Nature that surrounds us including the coqui frogs :)
First of all , the construction of this property is impeccable. Everything lines up perfectly. Doors, windows, tiles and beams on the ceiling. The construction is perfectly done.Everything worked perfectly and the price point should be increased (My only complaint)! The owners/hosts are beyond amazing and have clearly poured their hearts into this property.Stay here for an amazing time. This property is a complete steal at this price point and worth the stay.
Lovely couple, beautiful quiet garden retreat with plentiful fresh organic fruit straight from the tree. Thank you so much for a wonderful stay in Hilo!

About the host
Hosted by Paola Rochabrun Oliveira
Our names are Mauricio and Paola. More than 20 years ago, we sailed away from our country in South America to conquer Hawaii. For our surprise, this island was able to conquer us first, so we decided to stay and make it our home. Hawaii embraced our family in such a way that we felt something needed to be given in return. That's the main reason why we started the Eco Village project to help with the reforestation of Hawaiian Native Trees. To be able to take care of hundreds of baby trees and to inspire people to take care of Mother Nature, we built self sufficient hexagons that are our engines to keep up with the project. By booking one of our hexagons, guests are part of the reforestation of Hawaii.
Why they chose this property
The neighborhood where we decided to start our project used to be a Hawaiian Native Forest that was destroyed in order to grow sugar cane. Later on, it was used to raise cattle. Perfect place to bring back a forest! Since 2020, we've been planting trees and shrubs. By our pleasure, we are now observing native birds flying back to where it used to be their habitat.
What makes this property unique
The piece of land where we decided to start this project has a unique purpose which is reconnecting guests with Mother Nature. Ancient Polynesian's used to know how to live in a sustainable way by connecting with the Aina (Mother Nature). With a humble heart, we are just trying to bring back ancient knowledge.
