We have air mattresses and a pak n play available so that guest’s children can stay in the same room with their parents if needed.

Our well-lit garden patio changes throughout the year with bursting color of its surrounding flower beds and is equipped with a BBG grill, wood fire pit, and seating. We welcome our guests to sit on our large front porch to relax as well.
We are within walking distance to downtown Mount Vernon where you will find numerous specialty shops, restaurants, and bars. In the Summer months our guests enjoy the farmers market in the square each Saturday morning from 9am until Noon and the Artisan Market each Sunday afternoon.

Wonderful place and great host!
We were in town and spent 4 nights at the Fry House. It was like coming home each evening. Having a living room, office room, and kitchen in addition to our private bedroom was very nice. Host (Debi) thought of all the details and provided all the essentials and more. Very nice little breakfast each morning too. Would definitely stay here again when back in the area. Great location too… just a short walk to the downtown shops.

We enjoy hosting & meeting our guests as they travel almost as we love to travel ourselves.

We were both raised in Mt Vernon and are both graduates of MVHS. We both left our hometown after graduating high school but through the course of life found our way back home where we love to be.

We purchased a 6000 square foot building that had been vacant for about 5 years, although we have purchased, renovated, sold, and offered long term rentals in our community, this building has been by far our largest project. Our “home” has a vast history dating back to 1860.

Throughout our travels we have stayed at AirBNB’s & VRBOS, some have been quite enjoyable while others have lacked in areas that we prefer so we decided to convert our home to a short term rental guest house so that we could offer others the comforts of home during their stay with us.

Why they chose this property

The location of our neighborhood is within walking distance to downtown where guests will find great restaurants, bars, shops, churches, activities, and friendly people.

What makes this property unique

Our guest house is quite unique. It was originally built in 1860 by a man who rode his horse to/from a nearby town to operate his mercantile. He & his wife had 7 children, 2 passed away at a young age. This family’s oldest son then raised his family here before selling the building to an individual who converted it into a convalescent home.

It was sold again to an individual who converted it into a nursing home called The Rose Garden specializing in elder care & those who had mental health disorders who were no longer able to care for themselves. The Rose Garden was in operation for numerous years.

The woman who owned and operated The Rose Garden sold the facility to a family member before becoming a resident herself. She spent the rest of her life at The Rose Garden.

After The Rose Garden was sold to another individual it was used to house and care for those with MR/DD disorders. It was then closed by The State of Ohio for healthcare provider violations & sat vacant (bank owned) for 5 years.

We have renovated the building (90% of the renovations were done by my husband & I) with the intent to keep as much of the original beauty intact as possible. Uncovering beautiful wood floors, interior brick walls, and restoring the buildings 5 original marble and brick fireplaces, and adding the modern comforts of home has been quite an adventure.
