TRAVEL TIPS
Make sure your passport is in good condition with no tears or creases. We have had guests turned away at immigration at the Liberia Airport due to damaged passports.
Travelers from the US and Canada need a valid passport for at least 90 days after the day of arrival to enter Costa Rica. Nationals from all other countries are required to have this also. Please check your country’s entrance requirement before traveling. If you have to do any banking during your stay, or if you decide to make a trip to Nicaragua or Panama, you'll need your passport
Bring extra memory and batteries for your camera. Do not bring memory cards with important pictures, buy new when possible.
Electricity is 110V standard US, 2 prong plug
We highly recommend bringing surge protectors for all of your electronics.
Make sure that all of your US bills are perfect. Costa Rican banks won't accept torn or marked dollars, and most businesses won't either.
You do not need to exchange dollars for colones the US dollar is accepted everywhere. Credit cards are accepted almost everywhere as well. There are ATM machines located at the Liberia Airport, in Santa Cruz, and Tamarindo.
If you plan to drive, pick up a Spanish phrase book to help you decipher the road signs. Of course, this will help everywhere.
Bring along a copy or two of your passport I.D. page and carry it with you, especially when driving. You will also need a copy of your entry date stamp on your passport, we can probably help you out with this. Keep the actual passport somewhere safe.
If you rent a car, leave it empty. Never leave your car alone if it has bags in it, never leave phones or any valuables in your car. Always leave someone with your packed car to be safe.
Shell Collectors – Please be advised that shells maybe confiscated when leaving the country from Liberia Airport especially.
Bring insect spray and use it, especially at dusk and at night.
Remember to bring plenty of sun block.
