Excellent apartment on the first floor of the house in the countryside, on a farm. The house is located in a beautiful and peaceful valley called Norðurárdalur in Borgarfjörður, 154 km from Keflavík International Airport (1 hour and 55 minutes drive). From the borders of Reykjavík city, the drive is about 1 hour and 15 minutes. The apartment was renovated in 2008. It is 70 square meters of size and is well equipped, i.e. microwave, coffee machine and a washer and free WiFi. Beddings and towels included. There are two rooms and in site the apartment, one bedroom and a living room with a pull-out sofa. Extra mattresses and beddings can be provided.
Why choose West Iceland:
West Iceland is the mecca of the Icelandic sagas, such as Egils saga Skallagrímssonar, Eiríkssaga and Laxdæla. It has many historical sites and there is a possibility of guided tours around such sites. Birdlife in the area is rich. The nature in the area is spectacular, with its mountains, craters, waterfalls, lakes, valleys and magical lava. Furthermore, it is one of the best areas in Iceland to view Northern Lights, during the fall and wintertime.
Historical locations in the area:
Reykholt (30 min driving distance):
The heritage of Iceland's greatest medieval writer, poet, scholar and statesman, Snorri Sturluson (1179-1241), is rooted in Reykholt in the west of Iceland.
Eiríksstaðir (30 min driving distance):
Most evidence suggest that Eirik the Red´s son Leif Ericsson 'Leif the Lucky' was born at Eirkisstadir. Leifur became the first Europian to set foot in North America, which he named Vinland, in the year 1000

Mrs. Árný Helgadóttir, Mr. Magnús Leópoldsson and our family welcome you to our farm on Hvassafell II.
I am a MSc nurse and a certified guide and my husband is a realtor. For the past 10 years we have been establishing farming and tourism, which is our interest, as we are both born and raised on a farm. Our three daughters and grandchildren are also interested in countryside living and as a family we enjoy spending time together on the farm.

For the past 10 years we have been establishing farming and tourism, which is our interest, as we are both born and raised on a farm. Our three daughters and grandchildren are also interested in countryside living and as a family we enjoy spending time together on the farm.
Why they chose this property
We both grew up on a farm, and it has been our lifelong dream to establish our own farm. We were interested in merging farming with tourism, to give our visitors the opportunity to experience the Icelandic farming tradition, as well as the possibility to “refill their batteries” in the peaceful nature of Borgarfjörður. The location is perfect, as it is not too far from Reykjavík city, and yet the area is quiet, so it is an ideal place to experience the calming influences of nature.
What makes this property unique
First and foremost, we purchased this property because of its beautiful mountain view. Furthermore, the land is optimal for raising sheep and horses. Nearby, there are a variety of hiking and horseback riding paths, which is preferable for our interests, for we enjoy hiking and horseback riding in the beautiful Icelandic nature. Especially enjoyable are the Northern Lights, for this area turned out to be a unique site for viewing them, during the fall and wintertime.
