Sunset magazine honored us with the Small Space, Big Dreams Home Award and we're featured in the September 2014 issue. Additionally, Portland Monthly Magazine highlighted the cottage in their series on cool guest houses as 'a great environmentally friendly place to stash yourselves while in Portland.' In SE Portland’s historic Ladd’s Addition neighborhood and within walking distance to the newest restaurant row on Division St. An ideal alternative to a stuffy downtown hotel, this cool, home-away-from-home, designed with mid-century modern styling and comfort, is located in one of southeast's hippest neighborhood, close to downtown, public transportation and an acclaimed and flourishing restaurant row. We don’t ask you to do any cleaning, stripping of beds or emptying of trash.~~Please note that the $80 cleaning fee is due at check in, in cash~~ City of Portland ASTR Permit # 14-207831-HO If you think you might need to cancel outside of the refund zone, please consider getting traveler's insurance as we adhere to our cancellation policy.

The cottage is privately located at the back end of the owner's lot, is full of amenities such as radiant heat floors, skylights in every room, cable TV, wifi, a ceiling fan, full kitchen with a gas stove, oven and dishwasher.

The bedroom has classic, blonde 1950's Heywood Wakefield furniture. 100% cotton sheets and towels; plus shampoo, conditioner and Dr. Bronner's peppermint soap are provided in the sleek shower. We're perfect for one or a couple.

The cottage earned an Earth Advantage Green Building platinum certification for utilizing innovative building practices to reduce dependency on non-renewable energy. A rack for shoes is provided so they may be left outside in summer and just inside in winter.

There are two entrances to the cottage - one from the street with on-street parking and another accessed through the alley. The private patio with seating and a table is all yours with a striped awning to protect from the hot sun in summer.

Ladd's addition has a 'walk score' of 92 - perfect for strolling around the rose gardens or using the nearby bike route to get around the city. Funky hawthorne blvd. Is the northern border of Ladd's with culinary-rich Division St. To the south, gaining prominence for its growing and innovative restaurant scene and unique shops. Nearby clinton st.'s bars and coffee shops as well as restaurants round out why this area lands you in the heart of what makes portland unique - small, boutique restaurants, an independent movie theater and one-of-a-kind businesses for shopping. We are a block from a children's playground.

Lovely cottage in great location

We really enjoyed our stay at the cottage. Ladds Addition is such a pretty area with lots of cafes and restaurants within walking distance. It is very quick and easy to get into the centre of the city by public transport so you don’t need a car. The cottage has everything you could want to make your stay comfortable.

Perfect Portland experience

My wife and I spent 4 days at the eco cottage and could not have been happier. Susan privates the perfect combination of hospitality and privacy for us. The cottage was in the perfect location with all the Portland hot spots less than 10 minutes away. Great vacation and great place to stay!

Amazing!

This was my first time visiting Portland and the Eco Cottage is inspired living. It’s clean, beautiful, eco friendly, and perfectly walkable to so many restaurants and shops. It’s also a short drive away to do some hiking and see waterfalls and other spectacular views!

Beautiful sanctuary

I adored this place and wanted to take it home with me! The sky lights are devine and the place itself is super cozy as well as a visual delight. Situated in a great neighborhood within walking distance to endless culinary possibilities. The owner, Susan, is very responsive and welcoming.

Sweet city retreat

A wonderful space. Very clean and so very chic. We loved supporting an eco conscious owner. Great location. Beautiful neighborhood. Easy walk to market, restaurants, and transit. The only thing different from listing was we expected the couch to fold out and have a foam topper and bedding. Easy fix. Bedding brought over. Wonderful stay .

Cozy Cottage

We loved our stay in Susan’s cozy Portland cottage. We honestly had a hard time leaving the cottage. We were transported into vacationland as soon as we arrived! The accommodations were clean and comfortable. The space is light and bright, it was a pleasure to just hang out. The mid century modern décor is done well with comfort in mind. We enjoyed taking walks in the Ladds neighborhood where the cottage is located. The tree lined streets with beautiful old homes was so peaceful. We also appreciated the yummy coffee and cream Susan provided, it made for a nice start to the day. I hope to have a return visit soon to this very special place!

Fantastic place and the location is perfect

We stayed at the Eco Cottage and we loved it. The location was perfect, especially when driving out to different locations outside of Portland, and even to the airport. The cottage had pretty much all you need, including extras like extension cords and extra iPhone charging cables. We really did not use the kitchen much but it has everything you need if you plan on cooking. The AC unit was used a few times as it was warm on a few nights. I would recommend everyone to stay here, as the location made going to different places to eat very walkable, and a nice perk was restaurant suggestions which did require a short drive. This cottage is in a neighbourhood called Ladds Addition, and it is massive, but with so many places to eat in all directions. Exploring the neighbourhood was fun as well meeting local residents who helped guide us to cool places to check out like Cartopia and Hawthorne Asylum. Thank you Susan for being a perfect host. When we come back to Portland, we will book your place again.

The Eco-Cottage is one VRBO that is even better than the photos. Susan was lovely and accommodating. The neighborhood was absolutely charming and easily accessible by public transport. As an added bonus we got some of the bounty from Susan's beautiful garden. I would come back in a heartbeat!

Susan was a great host. She checked in via text but wasn’t in our face(which is appreciated). It made the backyard cottage feel more private.We loved the location of this air bnb, and the neighborhood is adorable. We had everything we needed. My only real gripes(which are somewhat minor) are that the water pressure is really poor, and the bed is not super comfortable. Obviously the bed thing is personal preference but it’s a pretty firm mattress.Otherwise we enjoyed our stay! Thanks for having us, Susan.

Portland Cottage in Ladd’s Addition

We really enjoyed our stay! The cottage was perfect - it had everything we needed and the location is great. The neighborhood is within walking distance of so many fun places to eat and shop. We hope to stay here again when we come back! The big public rose garden right in front was a plus, too. Susan was a pleasure to deal with and we enjoyed meeting the dogs. Highly recommend this delightful cottage!

Consider the extra fees before booking

The property was very well laid out with everything one or two people would need for a cozy short term stay. Everything was clean and orderly when we arrived and our stay was very pleasant. The furniture in most of the living space is more visually appealing than it is comfortable but it is fine for a few days and it contributes to the "vibe" of the place. It was a fun place to relax and hang out in and the neighborhood has a lot of character to explore. Check out the local restaurants and coffee options if you want to find something within walking distance.The only downside that we found was the number of communications from the property manager that seemed overly dense and in some cases unnecessary. We had what we needed with the initial email instructions and a booklet that was left in the space for us with further information. Together with the barrage of emails we got from the VRBO platform itself it just seemed like the experience could have been much less demanding of our attention. We booked the visit as a get away and adding 10 more emails to read and respond to did not add to that experience. We were also surprised by an additional fee that was expected after the non-refundable booking was made. If you are considering booking this space, make sure you read the fine print and be prepared to have a significant amount of cash on hand for a cleaning fee that is not included as a host charge like most of the other VRBO listings.

Hospitality is in my DNA, having previously managed vacation rentals in Nicaragua and on Maui. I'm a passionate home birth midwife and in my off time I garden, growing perennials and organic vegetables, am an avid traveler, backpacker, fly fisher and cyclist. I love to eat and seek out new fine dining opportunities as well as unique food trucks and i'm happy to share them with you. During your stay, i can lay low, offering privacy or be a resource for your intro to portland's many interesting offerings.
