Perfect Little Getaway in the Mountains of Ashe County, NC!
Wouldn't it be nice to sit for a little while in that comfy rocking chair on the back porch and watch a beautiful deer wander through the woods undisturbed by your presence? Or to wrap up in a blanket with your sweetheart in front of a warm fire after a picnic on Mt. Jefferson or a visit to the famous frescoes of Ashe County? Experience the Carson Log Cabin-there's no hurry here.
Of course, we believe that a visit to the Carson Log Cabin is inspiring, refreshing and relaxing. The cabin is a part of our family and our mountain heritage. Our guests agree. In fact, we are pleased that our cabin has become a tradition for many people.
The mountains of North Carolina have inspired beautiful writings throughout the centuries. Often, our guests experience that same inspiration during a stay at the cabin. That's why we leave a journal by the fireplace for guests to share their thoughts. Feel free to browse some of the messages left behind in the Carson Log Cabin journal by recent visitors to the cabin.

The cabin was wonderful and very relaxing. It was so serene. Site seeing and shopping was close by. Wonderful views from back porch. The owner kept you very informed on everything. I would definitely go again.

Exactly as described
Was perfect. We were out and about all day and just basically slept st the cabin. Worked out perfectly for family. Great location, close to New River State Park a short trip yo West Jefferson.
This was a great get away for my husband and I! This was his most favorite place we have ever been! The back deck was perfect to sit quietly and enjoy nature! We saw birds, squirrels, deer, and lightning bugs! Copper Mine Grill was about 15 mins away Ave was so good!!! West Jefferson is about 20 mins away and great for touring! Can’t wait to visit again!!!
This was the best trip we have ever taken! The cabin is beautiful! The scenery around it is wonderful with the fall colors. New River State Park is just around the corner, and the little town of Shatley Springs is just down the road. Rhonda was so sweet! She answered all my texts within minutes. That's all we needed for a great anniversary weekend. We'll definitely be back!
Very clean, views everywhere you look, has the basics and a good location.
So clean, has everything we needed, good location, quiet, such beautiful views out of large windows in 3 of 4 directions in the great room. Not fancy, but very clean w/ the basics. 3 Minor negatives:1) Needs new silverware, the plastic on the silverware was cracking and the size of the forks were like a child’s playset. 2) The lighting is very dim. Some brighter, warm LED bulbs in the overhead fans would help a lot. 3) the largest bed mattress needs to be replaced, but it’s not horrific. Sags in the middle. Otherwise, the basics were all there, albeit a little dated, and I have to keep mentioning—everything was very clean. I was so comfortable because everything was immaculate. Good pressure in the shower, plenty of hot water, appliances all worked well. Easy parking—& Rhonda had everything prepared with salt in case of inclement weather. The host was communicative & kind. The views were lovely. The heater worked well and was quiet. TV had a large assortment of channels for warm night after being in the cold all day. We were warm and comfy for the weekend. It’s remote enough, but when I realized I had forgotten something, a trusty dollar general was a few minutes away. Spent a day in quaint downtown West Jefferson, which was close by, with shopping (not any real chains-which was great) and restaurants, then off to a winery. It was a lovely drive and all close enough, but again, the cabin felt somewhat remote, too. All in all, a great stay!

Perfect Getaway Indeed
This cabin & location are just as the title indicates. A perfect little getaway in the mountains of Ashe County. The picture of the cabin from the outside may look small, but it is very open and has 3 separate bedrooms and 2 separate baths. This getaway is tucked in an easy to get to, yet private location. The photos in the listing are accurate in reflecting the appearance, furnishing and amenities. The cabin was very clean and well maintained. The owner is probably the most accommodating person we have encountered in rentals. You don't need to bring anything unless you just want to. It is fully furnished with everything you need from stove, TV, gas fireplace, linens, towels.....everything. The back porch is a splendid place to rest, relax, read a book, and take in the view. You can readily see the stars at night too. By city standards, you have to drive a few miles to get to town and that's the beauty of it. West Jefferson isn't far away and the drive is absolutely gorgeous. The New River with a general store is about a mile away. Shatley's restaurant is about a 10 minute drive and a national park is probably a half mile away. We will definitely be returning for future getaways.
This is an adorable property that’s out in nature with beautiful views, but it’s close enough to Jefferson that you don’t feel isolated. The cabin was very clean and the host friendly and accommodating. We’d absolutely stay again.
The cabin was clean and had what we needed. Shower is on the first floor near the kitchen and the balcony was nice. Near the road but not a lot of traffic. You can see woods no view of the mountains. Overall, it was nice.
My husband and I stayed in this cabin for a weekend getaway in October 2022. We don’t seek out the fanciest places to stay. If it is quiet, clean, private, and comfortable, it’s for us! This cabin was exactly that. This is a cute little country cabin with everything you need, and nothing you don’t. The pictures online are accurate, other than there being a more modern TV there now. It does sit just off the road but there isn’t a lot of traffic, and while there is one neighbor in eyesight, it still felt private and secluded. It is surrounded by trees and nature which are beautiful from the back porch. It is very close to New River State Park, and a short drive to West Jefferson. Things of note that are not necessarily negative things but important to know beforehand: 1) The address listed in VRBO is not correct for the location of the cabin. However, the owner was quick to respond when we called for clarification, and was very nice and helpful. Make sure to read the address given in her message, not the one listed on VRBO. 2) The 3 bedrooms are downstairs, as well as a half bath, but the only shower is upstairs. We ended up keeping our suitcases upstairs in the kitchen area to avoid having to go up and down so much while tryin to get ready. I could see how this would be more difficult with more than 2 guests. 3) The shower is very small. It’s an insert, single stall type shower with floor, ceiling and 3 walls all one piece. While it was ok for us, anyone taller than 5’10” may have a hard time showering in this small space. 4) There is only 1 small TV and it is upstairs in the living room. If you like watching TV in bed, bring a laptop or a tablet! Overall, for the price, location, and kindness of the owners, we would recommend this property and will stay here again in the future!
We had a wonderful trip. The house was perfect and you could just stay and rest. We would certainly go back again. I love homes that you can feel welcome and rest for your soul.
Thanks to Rhonda for being very attentive. She gave us good instructions and the home was in great condition when we arrived. We visit the area often, it is nice to have a place that is so comfortable and homey to come back to after longs days of outdoor activities. It’s small but cozy, has all you need, has a great back deck to relax on, looking out into the woods, and it’s really nice to have 3 bedrooms for this size of home.
