Planning a Family Getaway? Look No Further—Members Save 25% for a Limited Time!
Bring the family, friends—and the dog—to nearly 25 private, wooded acres along the river, just 2 miles from Warroad on Lake of the Woods. Gather around the fire, play in the huge yard, watch for wildlife or unwind to the sound of the rapids. Pets stay FREE, and we even fog for mosquitoes!
Reconnect, spread out and make the kind of memories that are getting harder to find.
WELCOME TO YOUR NORTHERN MINNESOTA GETAWAY
Some places just give you a place to sleep. Wenzel’s Woods gives you a place to make memories.
Tucked among nearly 25 wooded acres along the river, our cabin offers something that’s becoming harder to find—room to slow down, spread out and simply enjoy being together.
Start the morning with coffee on the deck while the rapids provide the soundtrack. Watch for deer wandering through the yard, listen to the birds, or let the kids head outside where there’s actually room to PLAY.
And when you're ready for town? Warroad is only 2 miles away, right on Lake of the Woods.
THE RIVERFRONT
The river isn't just something you'll see from the property—it becomes part of your stay.
Bring your coffee to the deck and listen to the rapids. Read a book by the water, walk the dogs, watch for wildlife or simply sit and enjoy the view.
In warmer months, guests have cooled off in the river, caught frogs with the kids and taken the paddleboat out for a leisurely ride. Winter brings an entirely different kind of beauty, when snow settles over the woods and the river becomes part of the Northwoods winter experience.
There is a designated area offering easier access to the river. Because this is a natural riverfront property, children and pets should always be supervised near the water.
ROOM TO PLAY—OR DO ABSOLUTELY NOTHING
One of the things our guests talk about most isn't inside the cabin. It's the SPACE outside it.
The huge yard gives families and groups room for badminton, croquet and outdoor games—or invent your own. Then venture across our 110-foot walking bridge to the other side of the property, where you’ll discover a tucked-away cement court with a basketball hoop waiting among the woods.
And don't forget your camera! The river, woods and grounds here have even been chosen as the backdrop for professional wedding-party and graduation photos.
Explore the property, walk the quiet country road, watch the fireflies come out, or gather around the fire pit at the end of the day.
Firewood is provided, so bring the marshmallows!
And because this is Northern Minnesota, we fog the property during the warmer months to help keep mosquitoes under control.
BRING THE FAMILY. BRING YOUR FRIENDS. BRING THE DOG!
Pets stay FREE.
We don't believe bringing your four-legged family members should add another fee to your vacation. Dogs have nearly 25 wooded acres of new smells to investigate, quiet roads for walks and plenty of outdoor time with their people.
Please supervise pets outdoors because of the river, elevated deck and natural surroundings.
A HOME BASE FOR LAKE OF THE WOODS
Coming north to fish? You'll be in good company.
Wenzel’s Woods has welcomed both open-water and ice-fishing groups, along with hockey families, golf groups, wedding guests, extended families and friends simply looking for time away together.
Spend the day on Lake of the Woods, then come home to a warm cabin, make dinner, put your feet up and finish the evening around the fire.
Parking is available for trucks and boat trailers. If your group will be bringing several large vehicles or trailers, please let us know after booking so we can help coordinate parking. Winter snow may make maneuvering multiple trucks and trailers more challenging.
COME INSIDE
The outdoors may be the star, but we want coming inside to feel pretty wonderful too.
The warm cedar interior and nature-inspired décor give the home an authentic Northern Minnesota cabin feel. The open kitchen, dining and living areas make it easy to cook together, play games, watch movies or simply catch up after a day outdoors.
The kitchen is well stocked for preparing meals, and the large dining table has room for more than dinner—it tends to become the gathering place for morning plans, evening games and conversations that last longer than expected.
Books and games for children and adults are provided, along with a selection of movies for family movie nights.
SPACE FOR EVERYONE TO SETTLE IN
Our sleeping areas work especially well for families and groups traveling together. Guests frequently mention the comfortable beds, and kids especially enjoy having the downstairs bunk room as a space of their own.
Please look through the photos and sleeping arrangements to make sure the layout is right for your group.
A LITTLE SOMETHING FOR THE GROWN-UPS, TOO
After fishing, hiking, golfing, skating or simply spending the day outdoors, slip into the private Jacuzzi tub and relax.
Sized for one—or cozy for two—you fill it with fresh, clean water for every use. Add your favorite bubble bath, turn on the jets and soak as long as you'd like. No shared hot-tub water here—just your own private soak whenever the mood strikes.
WHEN NORTHERN MINNESOTA GETS REALLY NORTHERN
Winter outside can reach the kind of temperatures Northern Minnesota is famous for—but inside, you'll be warm and cozy. Our wood-burning outdoor boiler keeps the cabin comfortably heated even through our bitter winter cold.
So come for ice fishing, hockey, snow-covered woods and frozen-river adventures. Then come home, kick off the boots and warm up.
COME TOGETHER. SLOW DOWN.
Wenzel’s Woods is for families, friends, fishermen, nature lovers and anyone who wants to slow down for a while.
It's not a party property. It's a place for morning coffee by the river, kids playing outside, dogs exploring, meals around the table, marshmallows around the fire and nights when the loudest thing you hear may be the river.
You can feel wonderfully removed from everything here—yet you're only 2 miles from Warroad.
Come to spend time with the people you love. Come for Lake of the Woods, family fishing trips and outdoor adventures. Come to reconnect across generations—or simply have time together without everything else competing for your attention.
Or come for no reason at all except to slow down, listen to the river and experience Northern Minnesota the way it was meant to be.

This place is awesome. We had 9 people stay the week and had plenty of room. The outdoor area is breath taking. The large fire pit was the perfect gathering place for conversation and of course smores. I would recommend this property for any family occasion.

Hosts are very responsive, live on-property but prioritize your privacy while you enjoy your vacation. Yard is huge and great for the kids for a variety of outdoor games. Setting is very peaceful and beautiful. Wildlife abounds. You’re out in the country but literally 4 minutes from town with groceries, parks, coffee, restaurants and Lake of the Woods.

About the host
Hosted by Pamela Wenzel
As a born-and-raised northern Minnesotan, I love sharing the beauty of the Warroad area with visitors. My background is in music, where I spent many years performing, teaching and directing musicals. Today, I enjoy hosting guests and helping them discover the peaceful river setting, abundant wildlife, and outdoor adventures that make this region unforgettable.
Why they chose this property
This property has been part of our lives for many years and has given us countless memories with family and friends. As time went on, a series of health challenges led us to build a one-level apartment in my husband's shop, allowing us to remain on the property without needing to navigate stairs. That decision also gave us the opportunity to share our home and this special piece of northern Minnesota with others.
Nestled on nearly 25 acres along the scenic West Branch of the Warroad River, the property offers a rare combination of privacy, wildlife, and outdoor recreation while being just two miles from Warroad—Hockeytown USA and the gateway to Lake of the Woods.
One of my favorite comments came from my sister-in-law when she first visited. She said she would have a hard time getting any work done here because the property makes you feel like you're on vacation all the time. We think she captured the feeling perfectly. Whether you're gathering around the fire pit, watching deer wander through the yard, paddling the river, exploring the woods, or simply enjoying a quiet morning coffee, this is a place where it's easy to slow down and relax.
The area offers something special in every season, from world-class fishing and boating to snowmobiling, skating, skiing, and wildlife viewing. And while you'll feel away from it all, restaurants, shopping, coffee shops, and local attractions are just minutes away in Warroad.
What makes this property unique
What makes our property special is that you don't have to leave to enjoy your vacation. Situated on nearly 25 private acres along the West Branch of the Warroad River, you'll have room to roam, relax, and reconnect with nature without seeing neighboring homes or hearing traffic.
The river becomes part of the experience in every season. During the warmer months, guests can swim, paddle, fish, and enjoy the peaceful sights and sounds of the water. In winter, the river and surrounding property provide opportunities for skating, cross-country skiing, and snowshoeing right outside your door.
The grounds offer plenty of space for family fun, including basketball, badminton, croquet, yard games, wooded walking trails, and a large fire pit that's perfect for gathering under the stars to roast hot dogs, make s'mores, and share stories. Wildlife is a regular part of life here, and it's not uncommon to spot deer, eagles, and other native animals during your stay.
Many guests tell us that the combination of complete privacy, natural beauty, and outdoor activities makes the property feel less like a vacation rental and more like their own private retreat.
