About this property
Beautiful Upgraded Home in Canning - Newly listed
Relax in this spacious and serene recently upgraded family home in the middle of Canning. This former farmhouse has 4 bedrooms and provides lots of space with wifi, Sonos system, eat in kitchen, dining room, living room, sun room and a separate office. Enjoy the outdoor dining, seating by fire pit, a BBQ.
Located in the center of the village, walk to excellent restaurant, village coffee shop, grocery store and butcher. 15 min to Acadia, 5 min to local vineyard with Kingsport beach 3 km away.
The space
Over the years additions have been added to the original farm house built in 1860. While originally part of a farm the house, and its barn, now sits in the middle of the village of Canning. It was owned by the members of the original family until end 2021. Since then we've be working to upgrade the property.
As you enter the house you will come into the back entrance complete with back stairs to upstairs (currently off limits as we are working on that area) and entrance to the laundry room. Next you will enter the eat-in country kitchen with gas stove. We have it set up for 10 with extra plates and cutlery available in the pantry.
There are two bathrooms; one upstairs, one downstairs - both with showers. The upstairs bathroom also has one of the old fashioned, now fashionable, cast iron tubs.
As you walk from the kitchen into the dining you you will find the dining table from my childhood-you might spot some of my drawings on it. It has several leaves (located beside the couch) which extends the table to sit to 10 (although our record is probably a cozy 16). You'll find lots of wine glasses and some sherry glasses in the cabinet here, as well as placemats and a table cloth in the drawers.
Next you will enter the living room with a large TV. I think it's 55". There is cable and also high speed WiFi throughout the house.
Through the living room you will find the door to the front entrance, entrance to sun porch, the downstairs bedroom and front stairs to the upstairs bedrooms.
The sunroom sits at the front of the house, faces south and is perfect for morning coffee and watching the village come alive.
This lovely, former farm house, is now a village house with 4 bedrooms - 3 bedrooms upstairs and 1 downstairs, and sleeps 8. There is a double bedroom upstairs that has space for an airbed if you wish to bring one.
Our beds are set up with Duvets -European style. This means the duvet serves as both a blanket and top sheet. If you wish to have a top sheet they are available on site.
There is also a workspace upstairs with a printer (HP6890 - note if you are going to be printing you might need ink sorry I can't keep it full all the time. There should be some paper in the printer)
Children are welcome but we do not have any infant equipment at the house ie no change table, no crib etc.
Outside you will find a Fire pit with 4 chairs. There is kindling and wood for your fire in the barn. Please note fire safely requires the grate to be on top of the fire pit at all times and please ensure the fire is out (use the hose) before you retire for the night.
There is also a dining table with 6 chairs (note chairs might be in the barn). There are 4 additional outdoor dining chairs in the sunporch that can be moved to the outdoor dining area.
Note in NS we focus on the environment and recycling. In the kitchen you will find
Stainless Steel garbage for regular garbage
Cupboard under microwave has a container for paper (left side) and plastics (right side).
Recycling food container on counter.
Cans bottles etc go in the blue bid in the laundry room.
Note if you need to empty these during your visit their are corresponding garbage bin in the barn green tall rectangular for food stuff, black for regular garbage, bins for paper and for plastic
Garbage bags under the sink you need.
We hope you enjoy your visit.
Guest access
Entire house except for a locked room downstairs where we keep our personal things and one section at the back of the house (back staircase) where we have yet to renovate.
Barn access is limited to get firewood and access garbage containers.
Other things to note
Property is downtown Canning. across from the Post Office.
3 min walk to an outstanding restaurant Dickie Baxters, 3 min walk to Canning Village Meat Market and local supermarket, 5 min walk to Coffee Shop and kids playground and local park.
Barn on property no access except to get firewood and garbage bins.
Canning is a wonderful town perfectly situated for those visiting Acadia University (14 km or 15 min drive) or Annapolis Valley Wineries - 3 km to Blomidon Estate Winery and 5 km to Planters Ridge.
Perfect location for bike rides in the valley, visit the beach in kingsport, and hiking Blomidon Provincial Park.
