A gem of a retreat, 5 stars!! What a find!

This beautiful property just north of Shelburne NS, in middle Ohio nestled away from the wide world on deception lake was an unbelievable find. The last property on the winding road you a greeted by view of the lake and wonderful wrap around deck.

The cottage was clean, spacious, comfortable beds and allows you to be removed from the world with all the comforts of the modern world.

A beautiful fire wood burning fireplace, two outdoor fire pits, wharf onto the water and sand beach.

Whether you are relaxing in the Sauna or Hot tub, out on the lake in the kayaks or canoe or in the lake swimming everything about this place is about convenience and class.

From the spectacular sunrise in the morning and sunsets at night. I highly recommend this property for your next family or personal getaway. I know I will be back to Morning Mist Cottage

Beautiful spot, very private and the lake will keep you from wanting to plan any outings. Pauline was great to work with and we will certainly be back. We were 9 people and it did not feel crowded at all with the kids in the bunkhouse.

Amazing Family Getaway

Beautiful cottage and property. We totally enjoyed the private and peaceful setting. The lake was perfect, Such a great place to rest and enjoy nature. We saw five deer in total, a mother and two babies swam across the lake. Beavers at dusk, squirrels and a couple of bald eagles. We would highly recommend Morning Mist as a must go to vacation site. The cottage name Morning Mist lives up to its name. A truly 5 star cottage.

Relaxing Getaway

We had such a great weekend! The cottage was clean and we had everything we needed there. The lake was beautiful and for this time of year was nice to sit on the lower deck and enjoy or look out at it with a fire going inside. The sauna was also a great way to relax. This was the perfect spot and just what we needed. The owner Pauline was available for any questions we had. We would definitely go back for another stay!

Lovely peaceful secluded location

Very quiet cabin by the lake. Lots of water sport equipment was provided. Very clean and cute. Looks just like the pictures. Friendly host was at the cabin when we arrived. My one pup was obsessed with the chipmunks. We also saw quite a few deer and ducks. Hubs saw beavers. Husband tried out the sauna and said it was top notch. Great little compound for a family gathering.

Birthday Getaway!

We booked this beautiful cottage online we were very pleased with the location, the cleanlines and the beautiful lake! It was a peaceful place for my daughters 25th Birthday! We swam,fished, went canoeing (don't tell anyone I fell in at the dock) and panicked until i was told to Stand Up lol). I would recommend this cottage to anyone! We made a lot of memories! Lovely lakehouse

Beautiful spot, very clean and comfortable. Property is secluded and surrounded by lake and forest. Very peaceful. Shelburne is about a 15-20 min drive, for groceries and anything you may need. Stayed with my teen, tween, husband, and elderly parents. We were all very comfortable and happy to spend time together in such a nice spot. Photos are very accurate. Maybe bring water shoes as the lake is a bit rocky, but shallow for any little kids. Pauline was a great host, easy to communicate with.

My family and I stayed here for a week this past august, lake deception is a perfect name for this cottage. Unsteady dock, broken mirror, broken sliding door, outside light hanging by wires etc the owner states a beach area on property well there isn’t one. Hard beds cheap hand soap. The list goes on. For the cost she charges you would expect higher quality. As people who have owned a cottage in the muskoka this cottage is not even up to par. Do your self a favour and find something better.

What the doctor odered.

This place is amazing. Pictures really don't do it justice. So clean, inside and out. The gardens and bird feeder attracted the hummingbirds. The view!!!! The dock!!! All 10 of us felt the stress melt away. We swam in the lake. You might need water shoes if your not use to rocks for a ways in. The canoe and kayaks were alot of fun. The kitchen and dinning table fit us all. Everything you need. We used the propane fire pit and the bbq. Thank you for all the propane. We had a chance to have a wood fire. Thank you for all the fire wood too. The town of Shelburne is not a far drive. Lucky for me I had others do the errands while I sat on the dock. lol. No one wanted to leave. It must be gorgeous in the fall.

Total Escape

Pauline has created a comfortable and authentic Canadian experience with her lakeside cottage. The cottage is well provisioned and considered and unlike many rentals, feels like a home rather than a rental. Clearly she and her family have loved their cottage and you feel that, making it so much more special. The lake is gorgeous and the many areas to sit and relax are varied. We were fortunate to have beautiful weather so the various water toys and swimming platform were amazing. A really lovely property that created happy memories for my husband and I and our daughter and son in law who live in London, UK. If I were to invest in the property further, I would suggest an outdoor area that is protected from the rain and would offer a bit of shade during the day. Also - our prolific Canadian mosquitoes can be a challenge so having a screened in area for the evenings would be a huge benefit. We did love the gas fire pit in the evenings. The two canoes may also be on their last legs as they do leak. A couple of stand up paddle boards? These are merely suggestions but we had such a fabulous escape from our normal lives and hope to return again to this incredibly beautiful spot. Thank you Pauline!

Perfect family vacation

We are so lucky to have found Morning Mist cottage. Our family of 5, along with our friends family of 5 plus their dog have just had the best 4 days enjoying this little piece of paradise. The lake was so private, and Pauline provides multiple kid/adult kayaks,life jackets and a canoe. Definitely recommend bringing some big floaties to relax in,on the lake. The beach area near the dock was also great, and the dog loved the freedom to run around and go in and out of the water. We chose to sunbathe on the huge deck, it was so spacious and we all had room to soak up the sun. The fire pit is huge and Pauline provides more than enough wood and supplies. We had one day of rain showers, but still enjoy the lake and the sauna was another perfect added touch. Our kids absolutely adored the bunkhouse! Another piece of the great character of this property. Inside the cottage, we had everything we needed. Clean, well stocked, spacious, and as advertised. Honestly, the photos don’t do this property justice. The sun rises on the water and we watched the sun set from the water/floating dock every night. 4 adults and 6kids and not once did it feel like we were cramped or needed space from each other. Pauline was very easy to communicate with and was very prompt at getting back to me regarding the one question I had. Adults and kids all agree, we had the best family summer vacation . We hope to be back again next year!

Right now I have transitioned back to Canada having spent 12 years in the Bahamas teaching music education for a portion of this time while owning and operating a vacation rental in Cable Beach Nassau.
Having four adult children and eight grandchildren I am spending more time in Nova Scotia these days. Being in the outdoors, swimming in the ocean and lake, walking my toy poodle Lily, decorating/renovating, music, gardening and learning are some of my passions.

Why they chose this property

My former husband and I were married on the land and spent summers at our cottage with our four children. In 1998 I became sole owner of Morning Mist Cottage and continue to renovate and decorate this sensational property. 'Coming home to your heart' is indeed an opportunity for relaxation and spiritual renewal, laughter and love.

It is beautiful in the spring, summer and fall and now winter. I was not at the cottage during November for 15 years until I moved back from the Bahamas. Getting ready to open sometime in April or May.

What makes this property unique

I have maintained the rustic appeal with all new amenities. Guests repeatedly have said that the photos depict only some of the beauty that is felt on this property.

Guests love the peace, the stillness of the lake, the south facing sunshine, the forest, the adventures through swimming on the lake or canoeing/kayaking and the many options we offer having three fireplaces, a cedar sauna, comfortable beds and tons of space. Most importantly, I invested in an Artic Spa/hot tub. It is one of the finest hot tub around with a salt water system that keeps the water clean and invigorating. The potential for health benefits let alone the fun is worth it to provide for our guests.

Having grandchildren in my life I have made an adventure of the forest with new Geo Dome and swings and net for basketball.
