Wonderful Stay
The property was more than we as two people needed but was close to many areas we were visiting including Acadia NP and surrounding areas including Schoodic Penninsula. The property was clean, functional and had history included. It had all the amenities necessary for a week long stay. We ate out so did not cook in but had all the equipment to cook in. Staying off island had its advantages. A couple possible improvements would be a couple of handles going down the cellar for the washer and dryer would be good for us older folks. Also would recommend hand bars in the shower stall and providing a removable bath mat for older people using the shower to feel more secure and balanced. Highly recommend and thank the hosts for having us at their beautiful property.

About the host

My twin brother and I grew up in Pennsylvania, but we moved to Maine to work a summer season at Acadia National Park. We loved it so much that we stayed and bought this house in 2022. I love hiking, kayaking, nature photography, and traveling overseas during the offseason. When I'm a guest in a foreign place, I love it when hosts share their knowledge on what to do and what to eat so I can get the most out of my trip. I've lived here for years, worked inside the national park, and worked in many of the restaurants, so I hope to share my insight with you to maximize your comfort and your enjoyment while you visit Maine.

Why they chose this property

I love this neighborhood because it's a little slice of quiet and solitude so close to one of the most visited places in the United States. Ducks visit the small pond in the yard. Blue jays and cardinals feed right outside the kitchen window. Dogs have room to run around the yard. At the same time, you can drive a mile downtown and get something to eat. Grocery stores and big box stores are 10 minutes away. And in less than a half hour, you can be in Acadia National Park, riding the carriage roads, hiking up a mountain, or walking along the shore.

What makes this property unique

Our property offers a lot of space indoor and out, ample parking, and a peaceful retreat from the traffic of the island. Bar Harbor is without doubt a huge draw for visitors, but Ellsworth offers a more authentic view of life in Maine. This house is over 200 years old, so it has a lot of historic touches and oddities. We want to keep some of these charming characteristics while adding modern touches such as smart lighting.
