About this property

The Aerie- A Glazed Modern Treehouse

Private and peaceful, the Aerie is perched on the edge of a moss and lichen-covered bluff in the open arbutus and fir tree canopy offering intimate views of the surrounding forest as well as the rugged coast.

Eagles chitter from atop centuries old trees and seals and otters frolic among the islets below. A short path brings you to the driftwood strewn beach for a more intimate view of the ocean and chance to explore a small stretch of rocky shoreline.

FEATURES OF THE AERIE:

A graceful butterfly roofline and sweeping expanses of glass blur the boundaries between interior and exterior spaces in this new modern treehouse which reflects a contemporary twist on traditional typologies, especially corrugated metal boat sheds and cedar clad cottages.(sleeps 2-4)

Anchoring a modern kitchen, the 10 ft. granite island serves as a gathering spot in the open living area.

The master bedroom and ensuite enjoy private forest views. A queen sized bed and rainshower refresh.

Cleverly designed niches offer sitting, working and sleeping areas for extra guests.

An additional bathroom with a comfortable deep tub adds convenience for families.

Large deck wraps around the south corner for beautiful ocean views and al fresco dining. Private patio to the rear includes a hot tub and private lounging area.

THE PROPERTY

The five acre waterfront estate includes the Pointhouse, Aerie and new Studio ISO constructed from 2 shipping containers, as well as 260 feet of low bank oceanfront commanding a sunny point with a private beach. The Pointhouse operates mainly as a B&B for guests who want a little more pampering and wish to be directly at the waters edge. It can also be booked for vacations or small private events such as intimate weddings, family reunions, birthdays.., with or without the Aerie or Studio ISO.

Studio ISO offers space for art, massage, exercise as well as guest accommodations. It can be booked separately or with the Aerie for larger family/friend groups that want individual private spaces to retreat to.

The estate property includes a dedicated beach trail to access the waterfront for beachcombing, kayaking, SUP or swimming. We also have a mooring buoy in the bay for temporary overnight anchorage. Extra charges apply for moorage.
Other property features include natural forest, gardens, fire pit, viewpoints and a zen studio for massage, yoga or meditation. Please check availability ahead of time.

If the waterfront amenities are not available the beach at Sargeant Bay is a short walk or drive away. It is sandy at low tide much more expansive and nicer for swimming than our rocky beach. There is amazing kayaking in Halfmoon Bay, Gibsons and the Inlet and kayaks are easily rented in those areas.

The location is very central to all that the Sunshine Coast offers -Restaurants, galleries, hiking, biking, kayaking, boating, golf, tennis, and more. Ten Minutes to Sechelt - 30 minutes to either Pender Harbor or Gisbons. Easy access to Vancouver Island, Vancouver or Whistler by ferry or float plane. The only problem with planning to explore the Coast is -You won't ever want to leave the property!

Perfect for a romantic getaway, a relaxing family vacation, small weddings or meetings, a week of sun and water sports with friends, or cosying up by the fire to watch the winter storms.

Relaxing stay
This property is very accurate from the description and pictures. The Aerie house and property is even more beautiful in person. The house was very clean and well equipped for our stay. Communication with hosts was fast and easy. They were able to make many recommendations for area hikes and restaurants, though we mostly ate in. Staying at The Aerie made our anniversary extra special.

A perfect spot
My wife and I stayed at the Aerie for a week of hiking and paddling, and it could not have been better. The property is beautiful, comfortable, and well-maintained. In particular, the glassed-in bedroom gives one the feeling of waking up in the world's most comfortable tent as the chipmunks and juncos play outside. Heather and Bob were helpful and friendly--we can't wait to come back!

About the host

Host profile image
We bought the property in Dec 2005 as our future retirement home while we were still residing and working in Dawson Creek, BC. It was a successful vacation rental till Feb 2010 when we began a complete reconstruction of the main house and built a new guesthouse (Aerie) on the bluff above.
We made the move to the Sunshine Coast full time in January 2011 living first in the Aerie guesthouse and finally in Jun 2012, the expanded and renovated Pointhouse now a boutique B&B.
With the interesting guests from all over the world and a busy schedule of physician locums, retirement is still a ways off. Fortunately, life on the coast is a more relaxed pace allowing us more playtime, family time and travel opportunities.

Why they chose this property

The Sunshine Coast is easily accessible from Vancouver-car,ferry, boat, floatplane, commercial/ corporate aircraft.

The location is spectacular - You have to visit to appreciate. Most beautiful landscapes on the Sunshine Coast.

Sargeant Bay Provincial Park is a little known jewel. A secluded log strewn halfmoon shingle beach with sand at low tide backed by a magnificent bird sanctuary and lovely hiking and mountain bike paths.

Gibsons, Sechelt, Pender Harbor and points in between offer innumerable opportunities for sightseeing, cultural and sporting activities and this property is located centrally to it all.

What makes this property unique

This estate offers one of the most luxurious, private and peaceful locations on all the Coast.
Everything about the property, both natural and crafted, is designed to induce relaxation.
