The house was very nice and secluded but close to stores in the town of Menlo. It was spacious, comfortable, and very convenient to family that we were visiting. It had a nice yard and good walking trails. The hosts were very responsive to questions that we had.
This property was magnificent: the view, the "feel" of the home itself, the furnishings and decor, no amenities were forgotten, and we felt right at home immediately. My husband and I take our 5 grandchildren on a 4-5 trip every year to engage in outdoor nature activities. This property was perfect with its paths through the woods, the pond, the beautiful grassy, landscaped lawn and rolling hills. Additionally, we do crafts and hands-on activities with them during our week together. There was plenty of table space, decks/porches, sun room and living space to do all the activities we had planned. And the history of the location made everything even more special for us. Our kids (ages 10, 11, 15, 18 and 20) and my husband and I loved our time on this property. It was a memorable time for all of us.

About the host
Hosted by Michael and Leanne Sharp
We are a host team…you could call us the “Barber-Sharp Quartet!” We all live in the Chattanooga area and have found a dream vacation rental property to share. The Sharps have owned and managed several short term rentals in the Towsend, TN/Smokies area and their daughter and son In law, the Barbers, have teamed up to restore, renew and refresh this stunning mid-century modern home and guest house set on 24 spectacular garden like acres. We have a large active family that loves explore, play and “retreat” here!
Why they chose this property
We discovered this unique and spectacular property in late 2023 and began renovation, repairs and furnishing in January 2024. The private 24 acres are park-like and surrounded by beauty, views and nature. The original home owners spent 60 years planting and nurturing the gardens, trails, pond and grounds. The interior spaces are roomy and open, light filled and vibrant. The outer spaces and possibilities are endless!
What makes this property unique
The 1960’s House and guest house are constructed on the sight of the original “Menlo Mineral Springs Hotel” which suffered a major fire in 1918. The hotel was a haven and destination for well known guests such as Martha Berry and Henry Ford. The original spring is no longer accessible but continues to feed the pond. We’re pretty sure there are fish, but maybe as well as snakes and other creatures. Catch and release fishing is allowed w guests’ equipment.
