A quiet retreat in the middle of a Lambrusco vineyard
Easy to follow travel instructions helped us to find this tucked away barn in a vineyard with everything that you could possibly need. It was immaculately clean and well organised. The owners had provided a very helpful dossier of local excursions, restaurants and amenities. Stefano and Margherita were delightful hosts respectful of the privacly of the guests but with good English and very helpful when needed. Parma ,Reggio Emilia and Bologna (by train) were within easy reach and were full of art, arhchitecure and atmosphere.
The difference for us was this was set up as a home and not just a holiday let. It was treat.
thank you for your kind review , we are extremely glad it was a treat for you.
It was a pleasure meeting you and we hope you will grant us your prefences again in the future.
All our best regards

Emilia vacation home.
Beautiful location with excellent accomadation.
It is impossible to over-praise our stay at La Barchessa. The accommodation itself in this bucolic oasis is perfect for a couple - beautifully appointed, packed full with useful information from Stefano and, something by no means a given with holiday lets, blessed with a well-equipped kitchen - even sharp knives! Outside is a wonderful secret garden in which we spent many hours sunbathing, and a lovely non-chlorinated pool to cool off in. Everything has been very carefully and considerately thought through by Stefano and Margherita - and it is those two individuals who elevate a wonderful stay at La Barchessa from the merely excellent to the extraordinary. They are delightful, witty, intelligent people, and it was an enormous privilege to have met and spent time with them. They also knew exactly how to strike the right balance between socialising with us and leaving us in privacy. Truly a holiday that will live long in the memory.
Yes we have knives sharpened nearly every year. We know holiday makers are good and demanding cooks so we try to have them find here most of what they need (all would be impossible).
Looking forward to offering you again our services and thanking you for your preferences and kind words.

A great choice
Ideally located to access rail and road links to explore this beautiful region of Emelia Romagna. La Barchessa is an oasis to relax in, to enjoy the beautiful grounds, the rose gardens, so much wildlife - Bird song, red squirrels, cookoos, hares, hawks, deer, Willy the heron & his friend coming into feed at the fish pools, sunsets. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay, leaving was a bit sad & saying good bye to both Stefano and Margherita who are such good hosts, very helpful and very kind.
thank you for your kind review. It was a pleasure having to meet you and we hope you will grant us your preferences again in the future.
Peaceful, warm and friendly
We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at the renovated barn in Quattro Castella. Our hosts, Stefano and Margherita were absolutely wonderful, giving great recommendations and even offering a welcome aperitif. The rooms are very spacious and comfortable and the surrounding vineyards provide a great secluded and peaceful feeling. Yet it is only a short distance to great restaurants and places of interest. We highly recommend this place.
Thank you Chris thank you Allison

30 minutes from Parma, Fontanellato, Colorno. 20 minutes from Reggio Emilia, Correggio. 40 minutes to Modena and Sabbioneta. 60 minutes to Mantua and Bologna. Many things to sight-see in the padan plain. A forgotten by tourists Italy. Where mythology wants Apollo's son crashing into the Eridano river (now Pò) and the sisters turned into poplar trees. Here Dante and Petrarca came to meditate on the stone of Bismantova. Here renaissance moved its first steps at the courts of the Gonzaga and of the Este. Here are landscapes painted by Correggio, Mantegna, Parmigianino. From here great painting collections mooved to Hampton Court with Charles Ist, or to Dresda with Albert the strong leaving empy the palaces of Mantua and Modena. Here where the first Mediaeval known artist (Antelami) brought up his cathedrals in Parma, Modena and Fidenza. Here where you can have a real taste of Parmisan, culatello or prosciutto di Parma, drink fizzy Lambrusco and eat real tortellini. You should be here.
