About this property
Judge's Mountain Cabin New Listing - Walk to Clayton
You will not want to leave this cabin, so cozy and quiet yet close to everything. Built by Supreme Court Justice Judge Logan Bleckley on Screamer Mountain in the mid 1800's, see photos and remained in the Bleckley family until 2022 when it was completely restored back to as original as possible. It is situated on 11 acres, so plenty of room for hiking up the mountain and be sure to stop and see the old clay tennis court he built for he and his wife. Also only a 5 min walk to downtown Clayton.

What makes this property unique
My wife and I were able to buy this property in 2022, it consisted of 11 acres and an old cabin. It had been in the Bleckley family since before records were kept. The cabin caught our eye immediately, even though it had been abandoned by the family for some 20 years. The roof and the floors had rotted and fallen in, in several areas, but for some strange reason we felt like we could restore it. We negotiated a price and purchased the property.
Then we found out the rest of the story...
In downtown Clayton, there is a monument honoring Logan Edwin Bleckley, a very prominent figure in the State of Georgia in the late 1800's. He was born and raised on Screamer mountain (thus the property) and went on to be an attorney and ultimately served as Chief Justice of the Georgia Supreme Court from 1887 to 1894. He was also a Confederate Soldier.
He resided at the cabin, along with his wife, while he served in Atlanta on the bench, where the cabin served as their weekend home. If you walk up the hill behind the house, you will see a level area on the side of the mountain (old dog pen is there now) this is where they had a clay tennis court.
We striped the cabin back down to the bare studs and completely remodeled it, after years of upgrades and renters had taken its toll. We tried to be as true to the era as possible in getting it back to the way it may have been in the 1800's. We hope you enjoy your stay in one of the older cabins of Rabun County.
