About this property
A Renovated old winery-canava in Finikia
Villa Amalia is nestled among the historical cave houses along a winding path in the charming medieval village of Finikia. Casual luxury meets traditional Cycladic island style in this carefully renovated historical cave house and wine canava from 1874. A peaceful retreat from the hustle and bustle of neighboring Oia, this is the place to kick up your feet and breathe in the relaxing tranquility of Santorini village life.
A little wooden gate opens onto the private enclosed courtyard, with soft curving plaster walls in soothing earth tones and arches of volcanic stone. Here you can dine al fresco under the stars or take in the island sunlight and the amazing panoramic views. The picturesque settlement below, with its domed chapels and tiny houses, forms just the right frame to take in the vast azure sea and sky beyond. While the mad rush of tourists retreat from Oia's “famous sunset” en masse, you will be privileged to linger over every last color of the day from your own private perch.
The bright and airy interiors are open and spacious, blending modern luxury with selectively preserved elements of the original house. Soft curving plaster walls and archways lend traditional poetic Cycladic charm throughout. The grand proportions and architectural details of the large central open plan living room, dining room and kitchen are charming reminders of the room's original use as a wine-storage canava during Santorini's illustrious wine-making past.
The pretty, self-catering kitchen features antique Moorish tile, Italian marble countertops and everything you need to feel right at home. It is fully equipped with refrigerator, cooktop, oven, small convenience appliances, cookware, china and cutlery.
Each of the three ground floor bedrooms has its own entrance from the private courtyard terrace and each has its own modern ensuite bathroom with built-in shower. Two large bedrooms have queen size beds and one bedroom has a single bed with a sleeping sofa. All have plenty of privacy.
The cozy and private bedroom upstairs has direct access to a private terrace with amazing panoramic sea views. This bedroom has a sleeping sofa and ensuite bathroom with built-in shower.
Villa Amalia can accommodate up to nine guests seeking a unique, private summer retreat in one of Santorini's most special authentic traditional villages.
The settlement of Finikia is a hidden gem, peacefully sheltered from the jam of tourists just minutes away in nearby Oia. Cave houses and elegant churches dot the network of footpaths tucked below the natural protective cliff wall. Walking these quiet footpaths, one can almost hear whispers of the village's rich history of bustling naval trade, pirate attacks and old-time wine production. The village remains even today a vibrant neighborhood.
We are here for you from the moment you arrive in Santorini until the moment you depart again. We will guide you with every detail to make your holiday unique and perfect for you. From car rentals, luxury caldera cruises and excursions, local tours, insider's local dining treasures, sea and land sports, spas, wineries or any other desire, let us create your perfect holiday to enjoy all that Santorini has to offer.
