Newly Renovated Two Room Apartment Steps From 53,000 Acre Harriman State Park
About Peter Cain
Donna and I loved our old house, but thought that being right on Harriman State Park would be a game changer and it was. Whether it's a long hike or a quick 40 minutes with the dog, we get out into our beautiful part of Harriman daily. We lived in NYC and Long Island, but have been Rockland based for many years now and love it.
Peter Cain purchased this Cottage in 2014
Why Peter Cain chose Suffern
The main house is a brick Georgian colonial built in the 1920s as the main house for a large family estate. Today the estate's stone barns are the nearby residences of our friends and neighbors and the Mahwah River runs through it all. We loved the pretty stone garage (which predates the house) and decided to renovate the apartment as we really enjoyed sharing our other house - also historic -- with people who appreciate it as we do. We look forward to helping guests take full advantage of our amazing location.
What makes this Cottage unique
The secluded location with a choice of more gentle paths or challenging hiking right out your door is pretty unique! And all just 30 minutes from the George Washington Bridge.

The cabin was perfect for a short New Year's getaway. We enjoyed the trails at Harriman State Park, as well as making smores at the chimnea and enjoying all of the board games Peter had stocked at the apartment. Would highly recommend!
Great experience. Lovely property.
Beautiful area, polite owner
Beautiful cottage setting and for those who enjoy the outdoors, this cottage is special. Very much enjoyed the BBQ, chiminea and access to hiking trails. The owners provide thorough instructions and sightseeing tips, and are very polite.
The cottage was adorable. It was nicely appointed and the kitchen had everything we needed to make simple meals. The owners provided a list of restaurants and things to do in the area and Peter was very helpful. We played golf at Spook Rock Golf Course one day and went to a sculpture park, Storm King Arts Center (about 1/2 hour away), on the second day. Harriman State Park abuts the property and we even got in a short hike. We are likely to return as there are other things we would like to do in the area.
Amazing visit with nature
My wife and I had an absolutely wonderful stay in this beautiful cottage in Suffern. The location was beautiful and with so many hikes and forest areas it is an ideal setting for getting back to nature. We went up to do some work and the cottage was a lovely and cosy place to work. Then we went on daily hikes and to lakes for some kayaking. Would highly recommend this location to anyone!
The perfect weekend away!
Beautiful cottage, with all the amenities. Surroundings were great. It was the perfectly quiet weekend we needed.
