Looking for a home near Boston and Cambridge for 1-4 months? Our home is a peaceful oasis, filled with light with a comfortable cottage-like vibe. Located on a quiet dead-end street, the home is perfect for children to safely run and play. The large fenced-in yard with a flowering garden is bordered by woods, The backyard deck is perfect for relaxing, with a fire pit, outdoor heater, barbecue, and plenty of comfortable chairs.
With an open floor plan, the sunroom is the heart of the home, offering sliding doors to the deck, a casual eating area, and ample seating, with a comfortable L-shaped couch and a reclining chair. It connects to a modern, well-equipped kitchen. The Living Room is warm and inviting with craftsman furnishings, natural wood trim, a (non-working) fireplace, and a piano. The Dining Room has natural wood trim, a large Danish Modern dining table, and a built-in wooden cabinet. There’s also a convenient half-bath on the first floor.
Upstairs, all the bedrooms are designed for comfort. The Master Bedroom overlooks the woods with windows on three sides, lots of light, and a vaulted ceiling. It includes a King bed, an ensuite bathroom with a large walk-in shower, and plenty of storage. Two additional bedrooms have a Queen bed, dresser, closet, and desk. The fourth bedroom has a Full/Double bed, closet and desk. Two of the bedrooms are equipped for a home office, with third office workspace in a nook near the kitchen.
The finished basement is great for kids or teens, with a play area that includes a large TV and a comfy couch. It also has a well-equipped gym, with two workout benches, plenty of weights, a medicine ball, step, yoga mats and more.
Nearby is a scenic walking/bike path along the Charles River, playgrounds, a ballfield, kayaking rentals, a supermarket, a drug store, coffee shops, and restaurants. The neighborhood is green and wonderful for walks. In the nearby square, the community-run West Newton Cinema offers independent films and current movies, In the other direction, Waltham's vibrant Moody Street offers all kinds of ethnic restaurants with outdoor seating. Boston is a 20-30 minute drive, or you can walk to the Express Bus (2 blocks), the commuter rail (half mile), or the MBTA train at Riverside Station (1 mile). Cambridge is also a 20-30 minute drive, or you can take a local bus to the commuter rail there.
Newton is known for its excellent schools. Our wonderful elementary school is just around the corner, complete with a large playground and field that neighborhood kids use after school. Older kids can walk three blocks to the school bus stop for a ride to the nearby middle and high schools, just over a mile away.
We’re surrounded by universities, all within 8 miles of home, including Harvard, MIT, Boston College, Boston University and Wellesley College. Brandeis University is 1 mile away.

We are a semi-retired couple who were fortunate to raise our two grown children in Newton, a pretty community just outside Boston. For many years, Merle worked at Harvard, renovating their historic student housing, while Jackie worked for non-profits. We love the outdoors, including hiking, biking and kayaking. Our home reflects our love for the outdoors, with lots of windows that let in the light and trees. As we set off on new adventures, we are looking for a family who will care for and enjoy our home while we are away.
