Naches getaway

Was a wonderful clean stay. Very private/secluded area that was perfect for getting away from everything. The family loved it. The only drawback is I wish I brought more people because the place is huge. The owner was in great communication and very pleasant to interact with

Fun storytelling stay

*“What an absolutely fantastic stay! From the smoothest check-in and clear directions to the fun, cozy living space and amazing outdoor adventures just steps away—Hummingbird Hill was the perfect family getaway! We celebrated six birthdays here, and this space made it extra special.Every corner of the house has a story to tell, adding to the charm and character of the stay. Jim, the host, was incredible—quick to respond and always ensuring we had everything we needed. And the cherry on top? A perfect sledding hill right in the front yard! The only tiny surprise was that the listing photos showed bunk beds, but while there weren’t any, there were still plenty of comfy sleeping arrangements.I highly recommend this stay for any family looking for a fun and memorable retreat. And you can bet we’ll be back soon!”**

Ladies retreat

This listing is everything it claims to be!! We had the best time relaxing and enjoying all of the hummingbirds. Saw a group of elk in the neighbors field and enjoyed the amazing moon rise from the hot tub. I would recommend this beautiful home, but I don't want to have to fight for my weekend getaway!🙂

Our Stay at Hummingbird

This was our second stay at Hummingbird. iJim is aways great to work with. We had a few friends this time for New Years. We all loved that there were enough bedrooms and bathrooms. So much to do in so little time. The hottub in Winter was a great hit. Nothing better than sitting in the tub and looking at the snow all around us. We would recomend this location to everyone.

Wedding

The house was a 3 year olds dream! Our grandchildren ages 3 and twin 1 year olds loved all the toys! It was 10 minutes from the American Homestead where our youngest daughter got married. It is a pet friendly house however we did not bring a pet and my son in law was having an allergic reaction to the pet hair.. We all slept like babies.

Great Space for Family!

Our stay here was great! We stayed here for our annual family get together. The cabin was fully equipped with everything we needed and then some. The check in instructions and notes everywhere answered any questions we may have had during our stay and the host was quick to respond for anything else. The hot tub was a hit and the wrap around double deck was beautiful. We all had a great time enjoying the view and watching the hummingbirds all day long. We enjoyed cooking family meals together in the well stocked kitchen. The extra folding mattresses were very comfortable and convenient. We will be back.

Hanson Family Fra-la-la

We had another amazing stay! Several family members joined Mike and I and our aging dogs for the first weekend. We celebrated my 1st teenage birthday on Friday, and had a fabulous Easter Egg Hunt on Sunday. Friday night was the first time in a hot tub for several folks; the experience made an impression on my grand niece who informed everyone "this was the best-best-best-best-best (about 27 bests) BEST DAY EVER!! The neighbor goats visited and the dogs were very curious. You could see the thought bubble above their heads: what kind of dogs are THOSE?!? The rest of the week was much quieter and we certainly enjoyed our time there. Thanks again!

Winter wonderland!

This is a very special place, full of warmth, comfort and beauty. Immediately we felt right at home mostly because of the kindness & efforts expended by the owner, Jim. Abundance of movies (3-D was awesome!), blankets/cozy bedding, music instruments, towels, stocked kitchen, and even sleds in the garage! Tons of extra special touches such as the binoculars, telescope & air purifier. Definitely need chains or snow tires to get up the driveway. Thank heavens for the neighbor lady who bailed our car out of the snow below the house 😉 Cant wait to return...next time for longer!!

Not what you think it is

This house was built in 1986, and it's still 1986 in every aspect. It's a filthy Yellow Jacket infested house. Their is a hole in the upper deck covered with a rubber mat. It's dangerous. The hot tub is broken and over sanitized. We had to leave 2.5 days early because of the Yellow Jackets and ask for a partial refund. No response of any kind. Save your money, this guy is a complete liar and con about this property.

Beautiful spacious well stocked home!

This log cabin home has so many amenities and is very accommodating for many people. The kitchen has pretty much everything needed with lots of dishware and a drawer full of ziplock bags, foil etc. Our family of 6 plus a 15 mo. old enjoyed the hot tub while taking in all the beautiful scenery. The beds were all comfortable except the full size bed downstairs is too small for 2 people. A queen size bed would be better for sure. We didn’t luck out this time with snow at the cabin but we drove one day about a half hour to snow and went sledding. Other well stocked items were sleds! We also drove up past the cabin and there’s really nice scenery up there. We had to drive the 4 wheel drive truck or we would never have made it on either drive. Our van is front wheel drive and we could not even get all the way up the driveway when we arrived due to the ice pack. After several attempts, we ended up having to put the chains on. Once you get up, there is a two car garage to park in that was super nice especially since there was so much ice. This is a beautiful getaway and the few suggestions I have for the owner is fixing the large pot hole in the driveway and having some deicer available. It was not feasible to park down the hill and walk up due to the very icy road. Also the house is due for a good deep clean. Overall both times we have stayed here we have thoroughly enjoyed ourselves. The house is so warm and comfortable and the views are amazing. And lastly we really appreciate the owner for his communication and accommodating our requests. We will be back again!

Annual friends jeep trip

We were looking for a place big enough for our group of empty nesters who love to go jeeping and Hummingbird Hill was perfect. Jim made check in so easy and smooth. The cabin was in a great location and fit our group with ease. We had a wonderful time cooking meals, laughing on the deck and soaking in the hot tub. A great spot and if we find ourselves in Naches again, we’ll look Jim up! Thank you for your wonderful cabin.

cozy getaway

My family was delighted with our stay at Hummingbird Hill. Jim has obviously put a lot into this place and he made our stay so easy and comfortable. It's packed with toys of all kinds for adults, children, and dogs. Our dog's favorite thing was the big property to explore. Our 8-yo loved the music room. My wife and I loved relaxing in the hot tub and several of the cozy spaces inside for family time. The solar powered level 2 EV charger was a nice plus on our spring break road trip. We also enjoyed having such a short drive up into the national forest for a day hike. The privacy and uniqueness of this property would definitely make me consider returning.

About the host

Hosted by Jim Farrier

Host profile image
I'm Jim Farrier and I purchased this wonderful log home as a weekend home and vacation escape. I love the mountain air with the gentle summer here and the deep fluffy snow in the winter. For 20 years, I've worked about 210 miles away in Vancouver, so I drive a lot, but I've made it here most weekends in the past 17 years. My interests are nature, meditation, gardening, music, science, business, AI, energy, spirituality, hiking, exploring, creative thinking, alternative health, developing peace and well being. I believe that life is complex with unseen forces and that we are all connected with our roots into the land. I like unusual unique things that have real value even though only a few special people can see the true worth.

I grew up in Tigard, Oregon and lived in Portland much of my life. I became tired of the city and I was fascinated and drawn to the Columbia Gorge and would travel and hike incessantly in the beautiful areas. I currently live in The Dalles and have a long commute. I worked for a division of a large multinational electronics corporation. My work has been multi-faceted, dealing with both Information Technology, Project Management, and Market Research. I like to use both the analytical and intuitive side of my brain for both my work and play. My education is continuing in IT, Project Management, electronics, communications, and business. I hold an MBA from Marylhurst University. I never stop learning and I keep pushing the envelope to understand life. I've recently obtained Project Management, Agile and CompTIA IT certifications.

This place allows me to really relax, but it is also a place to dream and be creative. I feel inspired every time I set foot on the property. Among the trees, the hills and the wood, life's problems seem to evaporate and real answers seem to come naturally and spontaneously. For me, this has been a marvelous place to dream, make music, enjoy relationships, write, learn and explore life to the fullest.

Why they chose this property

This mountain lodge is a peaceful place. It is a place to relax with room to spread out and expand in all directions. It can be a place to think and solve problems, but mostly to unwind and let your cares fade away. This place grew on me from the moment I saw it. It seemed spectacular and unusual in all respects. While I never expected I would use it much, I've spent hundreds of hours in the hot tub, relaxing, meditating, watching the birds fly above and the trees sway in the breeze against the backdrop of the steep rocky cliffs that make up the gorge walls. This place is magical for me and it feels alive with a gentle energy that holds and supports each thought and emotion. Being here brings peace of mind. Also, this has been a good place to visit with family and talk, relax and just have fun.

What makes this property unique

While it is relaxing in its own right, this place is a good jump-off point to explore the entire area from Mount Rainier National Park to all the points of interest in the Yakima valley and even further. The log construction makes this place have a different quality of sound, warmth, and comfort. There are over 200 art pieces, displayed. Some guests have described Hummingbird Hill as going to grandma's house. If you've ever wondered what it was like to live in a log house, you would hardly believe the difference and the nuances of the experience. It really grows on you.
