About Julie L.
I'm a mom of two and we purchased this cute property for my parents to stay when they come. All the other times, we're putting it up to share with others on their journey in Boston!
Julie L. purchased this House in 2016
Why Julie L. chose South Boston
This property is so convenient. It's in a great location and we renovated to be so modern and chic. We know you'll love it. It's convenient for working people to travel downtown or just checking out something at the convention center since it's walking distance. We bought it based on location.
What makes this House unique
Location! We also love the large format tiles that we put in the living room, the extra white stairs, and our very very comfortable green tea memory foam mattresses with pillowtop cover! Everything used in the apartment is very high quality.

Great location but bacon grease smell overwhelm ground floor
Great location, easy walk to bus or metro station. 2 baths a plus but hot water very limited in 3rd floor bathroom. Although house was clean a previous guest must have cooked bacon on stove. Ground floor smelled of bacon grease and stove had grease stains. I missed that the fridge was door size but it was not really usable because freezer section had some much ice build up that a thick sheet of ice coated the back of the fridge section. I let owner know about issues but did not request that they be addressed while we stayed. Once those 2 issues are fixed this is a great place to stay.
Clean South Boston Home, But Don't Recommend If You Have a Car
This home is well located in South Boston. If you do not have car, this could be a nice place for you to stay. We did have a car and it was a real hassle. I think the information is a little misleading in regards to parking. We arrived on a Sunday, and I found parking on a nearby street. I'd been driving for 8 hours and did not read the signs carefully, which is completely my fault. I failed to notice Monday morning was street cleaning day. My kids and I went to hop in the car---and it had been towed. Luckily, it was easy to retrieve. The tough part was driving around to find any sort of street parking for a weekday. No parking for visitors M-F from 10 PM-6 AM. Only residents with permits. The rare visitor spots are not near the home, and you have to move your car every two hours between 10 PM-6AM. Doesn't sound particularly safe to be walking dark streets throughout the night to locate new parking. The parking garage suggested was not convenient, and I didn't feel comfortable leaving the rental car there. So, we moved to a hotel the second night for a stress-free end to our visit.
The home itself is clean. It is narrow and compact. The bedroom on the main floor has a door. The bedroom on the top floor is open, more of a loft. I was on the lowest level, where the sitting area and kitchenette are, working on an assignment for grad school and my son was in the loft listening to a podcast on his phone. It could be heard clearly, as could conversations between my two children. I also washed a load of laundry with the dial pointed to cold and the clothes were very warm to the touch when the cycle completed. Some of the clothes faded and shrunk a bit in the hot water.
There are restaurants nearby with a variety of cuisine. We enjoyed Moonshine and Lincoln Tavern. It was easy to get around the city via Lyft or driving. We came to visit colleges for my son and see the sights. We enjoyed North End, too. Highly recommend Pomodoro for dinner. Exquisite Italian food!
Clean place that offered all we needed.
Shared this place with my coworker as we were in town for a conference. Provided us with enough personal space. It’s a nice and quiet neighborhood close to the convention center.
Great location in South Boston!
This apartment is in a great location and close to lots of quality restaurants and attractions. It was clean with comfortable linens and towels. There are a lot of steps; the area with the couch and tv with an attached kitchen is on the bottom level; where you enter is the middle level with a bedroom and hall bath and upstairs is a large loft bedroom with a small en suite bathroom and very small shower. There are a lot of steps, so for folks with mobility issues, this is probably not for you. Decorating is minimalist/modern and the wooden steps are painted white. Shoes are not allowed to be worn in the house, so bring socks with treads if you're not comfortable with being barefoot. Overall, this was a nice property that is convenient to everything. I like how the owner gives back to the community by donating her profits to neighborhood after-school programs. We were able to walk to many places instead of taking Uber or Lyft. One of our favorite restaurants was La Fromage. The owner was lovely and the food was delicious.
Thanks Connie for staying with us! We pride ourselves on providing a clean and comfortable home. We're glad you enjoyed your stay! Cheers!
Don’t be fooled by the marketing of this apt.
Not as advertised. Very small spaces. Stairs to upstairs bedroom and downstairs kitchen/small den area not suitable and unsafe. A number of unsafe areas and details that need repair in front entry and bathrooms. This VRBO is marketed very well - don’t be fooled by the pictures. Even after calls to Julie about soiled pillows and no soap - she suggested that I go to a CVS and purchase myself. Her signs around the apt. asking for a 5 rating along with the text after we departed - stating that all funds go to charity and that in order to continue her charitable contributions - she needs a 5 rating - was a real turn off. We have stayed in many VRBO rentals and this was by FAR the worst.
Hi, we're still appreciative of your stay. We're sorry you weren't happy. We had the cleaners bring new pillows and we took pictures and there was soap in every bathroom including shampoo. I suggested CVS because you weren't happy with what was in the house already and I also offered to reimburse you for whatever you wanted to use or buy. I don't think any other owner would have said please buy what you like and I'll reimburse you. I really feel this review was unfair because we tried so much to please you. Pictures are of the actual house. I didn't beg for any five star reviews but simply asked if you could kindly review your stay. Many people do give five star reviews and they really did enjoy their stay and found the place sparkling clean. Again, we're sorry you didn't like your stay but we use the best cleaning companies, we do monthly safety checks, quarter pest checks, and have a property manager constantly making sure everything is in working order. We also professional bleach clean every linen in the house after each guest. I'm not sure about other VRBOs but I really do put all my efforts into keeping the place as nice as we can. Thank you again for your stay and we do donate everything to the local schools and still appreciate your stay with us.
Great Boston locale
Great location close to city. Small but an ideal base for all main aspects we wanted to do/see. Linens were missing for futon but Julie resolved the next day. We took Uber everywhere so jack is parking was not an issue. When we rented a car for 2 days we were able to park in a neighborhood lot. Window AC unit in 3rd floor lift struggled to keep the area cool but it was over 90f outside several days. The tea kettle was a nice touch for tea drinkers and not typical in rentals, we enjoyed our time in Boston!
Hi Gillian! Thanks for staying with us! We pride ourselves on providing a clean comfortable home. We have replaced the a/c on the third floor to something even more powerful. Hopefully that solved it! Cheers!
