Classic up north cabin, perfect!

We stayed in their one bedroom cabin, everything was perfect! Also certainly loved the village of Lake Tomahawk just up the road, great food options!

Weekend Getaway

Very cute cabin, I love that there was a DVD player and a few movies available for it! I actually still have quite a few DVDs from the 2010s that I’ll bring next time to play. The firewood is very dry and really good quality. The dock is super cute and if you like fishing or kayaking, they have kayaks and a canoe to use which are super great! Highly recommend!

The leaves were beautiful. The cabin was adequate very small but yet cute. The lake wasn’t very visible and a long walk down the stairs to get to the lake just to see it if you like the woods it’s a beautiful place pretty much the middle of nowhere, but Lake Tomahawk is a quick drive to the north.

Great Rustic Cabin

A great dog-friendly rustic cabin on Horsehead lake! The cabin had a/c and a little fridge to store food as well as electric hot plates/ griddles etc to use to cook. We used the grills which was great. Also came with wood for nighttime fires. The location was sweet with waterfront access. I was able to use my paddleboard and buzz around on the lake. The location was great-easy drive (3 mins) or bike ride (15 mins) to Lake Tomahawk where there are some bars and restaurants. Also easy 15/20 min drive to Minocqua & Woodruff as well as 10 min drive to Hazelhurst Pub where you can jump on the Bearskin bike trail. Overall a great stay!

Property was beautiful...needs a lot of upkeep

The property was gorgeous and being on the beautiful lake was stunning. We stayed in Cabin 1, which the pictures make it look like it's a cabin, but in fact it's a tiny mobile home. The decor was cute but the cabin is really old and needs a lot of TLC and maintaining. The grounds could have been really pretty but none of the outdoor furniture was cleaned off...it was so dirty and full of cobwebs that it looked like the place was abandoned for a while. If you're going to have all that seating area, at least make it nice for the guests to sit on and relax. Needless to say we couldn't enjoy sitting outside under the trees so we spent most of our time on the dock looking at the beautiful lake.

Thank you for staying with us. I will say these cabins are the originals from the 1960s which would contribute to their "really old"--ness. The pictures show you exactly what the inside looks like. Most cabins up here do not have a concrete foundation, they are raised to keep the dwelling from rotting and easier access to the plumbing because f how cold it gets. They are not in fact mobile homes. I will confirm that you arrived during peak pollen season and these cabins are in the middle of the woods. Also, being close to a water source-spiders are going to thrive no matter how many times you spray or pressure wash. In the main sitting area the whole thing was pressure washed and there was a brand new patio set my husband assembled the day before. We apologize for any rustic problems you encountered, it sounds like we were not a good fit for you.

The host was great with communication and being accommodating and the cabin had the “up north kitsch” which was cute. The bed close to filled the bedroom which made navigating around it a bit tricky, but it was comfortable. On the downside it could have been a bit cleaner - older cobwebs in the corners (which I cleaned), crumbs in the silverware drawer, soap bits on the tub wall (which could definitely use a regrout) and a toilet seat which was close to falling off, it only needed a retightening which I did. The biggest downside for us was only a valance in the main area and bedroom, no curtains or blinds. We were glad that there was only 1 other occupancy while we were there, but even at that the last thing we wanted was to feel like there wasn’t any privacy, especially at night. I think these are all easy fixes and would consider staying here again (if curtains or blinds are added).

Short Stay

We stayed for 2 nights. The bed was comfortable however the shelf on the left side, though seems convenient, needs to be raised. Husband bumped often while trying to sleep. Needs more lights. Very dark on the inside. Did not realize how poor the kitchen area was, lack of decent dishes like coffee cups. We were ok with our stay but glad that we did not plan on doing any cooking. Would not stay any longer than those two days. Cabin was cute and clean. Our dog did not want to enter because of the rodent sensor on the counter. Highly sensitive to the pitch. Maybe let guests know, he was shaking, hiding and panting for hours until we figured it out.
