The farm was a perfect stay to enjoy our anniversary! Very quiet and peaceful and the animals were a nice touch especially Mya We had a great time with all the gaming options. I do recommend for future guest to bring house shoes as the floor is a little cold in the mornings. Overall a great place to stay!
A wonderful cabin on a beautiful property. We loved seeing the farm animals in the mornings (including some adorable piglets) and enjoyed the fresh eggs that Dottie left for us! The foosball and ping pong were such fun additions to have. Will definitely come back!
The place was clean and equipped with everything you would need for a few nights stay. The property is nestled away on a beautiful bluff. The hosts were easy to communicate with.
We were in the area for a wedding, so the easy checkin and friendly animals were the perfect stay for us. Clean, quirky and charming - hope we can come back again!
We loved staying at the rustic cabin. Its a great place to relax little country living. Next time we would like to come back during summer months ! Thank you for having us
The land and cabin exceeded our expectations in every way! The hosts were great about communication and the cabin had everything we needed and special touches to create a magical and relaxing space.
Wonderful stay at a fantastic eclecticss unique place, with an emphasis on music and animals. The farm dog is super sweet and loves to greet. The hosts left us fresh fruit, vegetables and eggs from their farm. As we left, we had a wonderful conversation with the host, and she let us admire their expansive view of Bridgeport from their mountain top bluff. Thank you!

I’m so glad you enjoyed your stay! It was a pleasure meeting you and your guests!
This property is exactly what the listing said it was. A nice farm house with an attentive host. Mia, the farm dog, was a nice welcome party for when we pulled up to the house. Definitely recommend stying here if you grew up on a farm or are just looking to get away!
My husband and I stayed here with our 2 adult daughters. The property was exactly as described and Dottie & Mike were wonderful! We really only had 2 full days to do everything we wanted/need to accomplish while we were there, but I would have loved a little extra time to chat with our hosts because they are so interesting and the property has such cool history! We loved all of the sweet extra touches in the house. Thank you so much! We hope to return soon.
If you want something different then this is the place for you. It is extremely unusual in both build and decoration. Getting there up the winding mountain road then down the long gravel drive adds to the adventure. We were greeted by Mya the farm wonder dog. She followed us in (after being invited) and made herself at home. She loves cuddles and belly scratches. Fresh eggs from the funny looking chickens were waiting in the fridge. Very friendly pigs were also there. (this is a working farm) The host made her blueberry bushes, peach trees and vegetable garden available to us. We could not have asked for a better hostess. The only negative (not for us but for some) are the stairs. This is a 3-level house. Access to the second level is up narrow, steep steps then access to the sleeping loft is up a very narrow set of spiral stairs. This is not suited to overweight or out of shape guest. Also, there is very little privacy. The upper sleeping loft looks down on the bedroom. If you want to stay in something very unique and off the beaten path this is the place for you.

About the host
Hosted by Dottie and Mike
We moved here about 13 years ago from Cocoa Beach, after my husband retired from the US Air Force. We fell in love with the place and have tried to create a peaceful farm life where we can be as self-sufficient as possible and play our guitars without disturbing anyone. The property has this very rustic and unique cabin on it so we decided to fix it up and invite people to stay and experience life out here. The animals are mostly very friendly - they all come when called and LOVE treats!
Why they chose this property
There are only eight families that live on Summerhouse Mountain and most of them own about 40 acres. Everyone is very nice and we all help each other. Our place is totally secluded and has an amazing bluff view of the Tennessee River, Sand Mountain and both peaks of Lookout Mountain. We appreciate being in the proverbial “middle of nowhere” - and still only 15 minutes from Walmart and good restaurants! The history of Summerhouse Mountain is interesting. After the Civil War, the founders of the city of Bridgeport wanted to build a “New York of the South”. When you bought a lot in town, you also got a small lot on the mountain. Malaria was rampant at that time so the citizens built cabins on the mountain lots to escape the mosquitoes in the summer. The women & children stayed in the cabins and the men worked in town and came up on the weekends. After the start of WWI, the women were no longer able to maintain the roads, and the cabins were abandoned. Our property was the site of this “summerhouse subdivision”, and to this day we find random bricks and bottles.
What makes this property unique
The cabin is very unique. It was built from timber and stones off the property, as well as re-purposed materials from the local area. We didn’t build it, so some of the logic they used is still a mystery to us! The fireplace in the outdoor pavilion is what remains of a summer home built right after the Civil War.
