The Magical Bungalow OBX is an original OBX 'Beach Box' style home, that was re-imagined and renovated by Live Swell Custom Homes.

Housekeeping, Maintenance, Inspection & Cleaning Notes:
We believe a very clean & functional home is of the utmost importance for our guests upon arrival. Between each guest stay our beach homes are thoroughly cleaned, sanitized & inspected.

All of our in-house housekeepers are trained in our proprietary ‘Sparkling Clean’ cleaning process and as of 2025 almost every beach house contains at least one floor-cleaning Robot on-site. Our staff also includes a full-time licensed Builder, so if an unlikely maintenance issue does occur, you can feel confident it will be fixed fast!

As further commitment to delivering an exceptional stay a ‘Quality Assurance Inspection’ occurs prior to arrival.

Pet Friendly Guidelines:
We are pet friendly to responsible pet owners with dogs who are good travelers. Pet fee is $50 to bring one dog. If interested in bringing more than one dog, just ask! We have hosted more than one dog in the past so it may be possible.

• Pet fee does not include excessive pet hair removal, stain removal on fabrics or droppings pick-up

Lovely Bungalow

Our family so enjoyed the Magical Bungalow. The upstairs renovations are just beautiful, and the house is so comfortable and conducive to wonderful hang out time, while also being in really close proximity to the beach and many fun restaurants. We had a great vacation!

Great House in Ideal KDH Location

This bungalow was a great place for my family who was coming from DC, MD, and NC to get together for a long weekend. The space was clean and well-equipped for our beachgoing needs for a long weekend. We found the walk to the beach super easy (even with a little one in tow!) and appreciated the house's many amenities, like the outdoor shower, beach cart, and front porch rocking chairs. We'd definitely recommend this bungalow to friends and family looking for an OBX vacation!

Perfect quiet getaway

My fiancé, 14lb Border Terrier and I stayed for a week and it was the perfect vacation. The food recommendations were amazing (thank you!) and we adored the coffee shop. We went every morning. The house is beautiful, clean and very cozy. My favorite part of the day was chilling on the hammock. We rented this adorable place the end of April and look forward doing it again next year!

Most owners, unfortunately, have not yet cracked the code on how to keep a place 'super clean' while permitting 4-legged friends to visit too! Amazing beach access

The super short walk to the beach is what made this property ideal. Room for a family of 4 to spread out enough that we didn’t get on each others’ nerves. Hammock was a huge plus. Nice to have a boogie board to us, didn’t need the bikes. Ice maker in the fridge with frosted mugs, a nice touch!

Perfect spot to enjoy OBX

This place worked perfect for me and my friends. The house had everything we needed and was in a very convenient location. We could see the beach from the front porch and the walk was less than a half block. The pier and Awful Arthurs were also within walking distance. We will definitely see if this place is available the next time we return. The owners communicated very well with us

Beach Beauty

The house was very clean and well-maintained. The owners were easily accessible and contacted us to make sure everything was going well. The beach was an even shorter distance to walk than we, originally, thought. Great surprise! It was very relaxing place to hang out and be connected to the area/beach at the same time. Wonderful place to vacation at!

My family and i loved staying here! a short walk to the beach, lots of restaurant options, clean, everything was in order and the owners and manager were pleasant to deal with. While sipping a cocktail on the upper patio, the manager drove up and greeted me warmly. She asked if everything was OK and if i needed anything. All was great, I told her. Great personal touch. It was a wonderful vacation.

Perfect location !!

The home was inviting & very comfortable. My arrival was delayed and i notified my host it would be after midnight. I was very pleasantly surprised to find they had turned all the lights on for me. It was an incredible trip. I set my alarm every morning and walked up to the beach and witnessed some of the most beautiful sunrises I have EVER been fortunate to see And seashells.... GALORE on this part of the beach. I highly recommend and I will hopefully be back again next year!!

Perfect OBX spot for families!

The Magic Bungalow was perfect for our family of six. Well decorated, very clean and beach vibes abound. Centrally located, so close to beach, we felt safe letting our kids walk to beach. Owners provided beach cart, boogie boards, surfboard, beach toys and even extra beach chairs. This was a huge time, space and money saver as we didn't have to buy all the gear! Communication was excellent and Michael even helped set up private surfing lessons with a local surf coach. since Michael was already booked (he does lessons too :-)). Highly recommended for any family who wants an amazing location and all they need for a memorable OBX stay!

Awesome Vacation Spot for My Family

My family and I had an enjoyable time at the Magical Bungalow which is located walking distance to the beach (1 block). We comfortably had three families (6 adults, 2 kids and a baby) sharing the beach house and we were never "on top" of each other even though the description says it is 1,200 sq ft. The upgrades were wonderful on the top floor, so much so that we can't wait until you complete the upgrades to the bottom floor. The amenities provided was plenty for us. We LOVED the hammocks which was my husband's favorite pastime during this vacation, since the bed wasn't as comfortable as he would've liked. Thank you so much for the hospitality and for being available when we had questions.

We are an active and curious couple that loves to travel, live life by the beach, meet interesting people, learn and ohh yea, surf whenever possible. We believe there is something magical about spending time in coastal regions and we hope you do to!

With a passion for coastal living and some experience in renovations Maria and I decided a few years ago to restore and renovate a bungalow to its original charm. We knew we would spend time there with our family and friends, because we love the area and chic bungalows, but did not realize how much our guests would like it or the impact it could have for them.

We have had so much fun and become very passionate about creating memorable guest stays, unique experiences and making more of an impact. Since our first bungalow we have grown to cover both coasts and add more places to stay. The “original” Live Swell Beach Bungalow, The Chill Beach and Surf Bungalow, is still available for rent in the OBX today.

Our favorite time of year in the OBX is the fall + late spring when the weather is beautiful, the fishing is great, crowds are down and the surfs up.

As hosts: We am super easy going, we respect our guest privacy but may stop in to say hello

As guests: Super laid back and low maintenance

Favorite Destinations: California, Baja Mexico, Guancaste Costa Rica, Spain, Peru, Long Island NY, Outer Banks NC, San Diego.

Why they chose this property

Home is the sun, sand & surf! Live Swell is a boutique brand of coastal vacation homes where guests refresh from reality.

From an early age the founders of Live Swell, Mike and Maria developed a love for the beach and waves. As kids they were fortunate to live near the coast and take family beach vacations where they would spend hours building sand castles, hunt for seashells, fish, body surf and catch waves on their boogie boards.

Years later, after learning to surf, serving as and Ocean Lifeguard and suffering from years of wanderlust, Mike + Maria have been fortunate to live in and visit some of the most special coastal communities on the planet. Combine this passion with an interest in coastal real estate and the seed for Live Swell was sown.

Each of our beach bungalows is handpicked, restored and renovated to its old charm with a modern feel. We take pride in transforming each property to a place where guests can feel what is like to have a beach home away from home.

We purchased this property because it is located in one of the the best surf destinations, raddest and most interesting surf towns on the east coast of the US, Kill Devil Hills. Like most people, having a beach house is a dream come true. This home also has a lot of potential, we plan to raise it in the future so it has a better view of the ocean and more space for our guests.
