Families that have children will enjoy Parksville Beach as it has a superb playground and water park for the small ones. Older children can look for treasures along the beach as the tide goes out, go swimming or just sunbathing with mom and dad on the beach. You can skim the water with wind surfing or kayaking. There are cool gardened walkways and treed areas to stay cool on a hot summers day. This park is beautiful all year round.
Nearby Rathtrevor Beach has miles of sandy shores. Go treasure hunting when tide is out or sun bathe for hours. There are also beautiful ancient forest trees to stroll among and cool off. Don't forget your camera. There is campgrounds here and you can walk throughout the campgrounds and enjoy the views.
We are near the French Creek Harbour where you can see the mountains across the Straight of Georgia or take a ferry to Lasqueti Island. It is a 50 minute ferry ride and goes about 3 times a day in the summer. It is small, with 350 inhabitants, isolated, and no vehicles. However, the adventurous may like this with either hiking or bicycling around the island. Otherwise take the return ferry if you just want the ocean ride. There are other ferry hops you can take to larger islands. There are places to buy sea food, eat at the bar and grill, night life at the pub, walk along the sea wall and enjoy the view of work boats at the harbour, or just enjoy the glorious sunsets. Bring your camera as there are lots of bird varieties and in the spring you can catch the American Eagles teaching their young to fish.
There is an historical St. Anne Church withing walking distance from the apartment. It is an old log local church surrounded by the graves of previous residents of Parksville area. I find it interesting to walk here and read the tombstones and enjoy the quiet atmosphere of the church yard. I have seen deer munching in the grass here and birds singing joyfully.
The Cathedral Forests are about 30 minutes from Cindy's Getaway on the way to Port Alberni and a MUST SEE!. These ancient forests will be the highlight of your vacation year round. However, in winter wear waterproof footwear as there may be some wet trails.
Another favorite of mine is the English River Falls park. Lots of scenic pictures as you cross the bridge over the cliffs.
You will find time and many places to go abd tgings to do on one day trips from our location. You can drive to Port Alberni and take a railway tour
or go to Columbine for walks in the unique forests there. There is a beautiful waterfront and miles to walk along the ocean at Nanaim which is half an hour away, or take an ocean tour at Ladysmith a bit further down the road. You will enjoy the historical mural wall paintings at Chemainus. Take the Cedar road just outside Nanaimo and have a delightful drive in the region looking for farmets markets, ocean views, or wine tasting. And for Golfers you are in Golfer's Heaven with golfing nearly all year round.
Walk, bike or hike your way to a glorious vacation in PARKSVILLE area.
I have lived in Thunder Bay most of my life and have my own rental property business which is my passion. I love to help people live in safe, clean affordable homes in a good environment. My husband is a retired mill worker and helps me with my business. We have been married for 35 years. I have two children and am a grandmother of three. The vacation property, which I share with my mother Claire who will be your host during your stay, is in a vacation paradise on Vancouver Island, in Parksville, British Columbia.Claire lives upstairs above the fully furnished vacation suite with her little dog. She is retired and an artist and is excited to become your Host during your stay at Cindy's Getaway My business keeps me busy but during the winter I spend some time at my home on Arizona and in Parksville as well. Now I feel it is time to spread my wings and travel to new horizons.
Owner purchased this Apartment in 2004
Why Owner chose Parksville
We bought this property because we planned or retiring and getting away from the bitter winters of Thunder Bay. My mother already lived on Vancouver Island and when we visited her we fell in love with Vancouver Island. After searching for a while we found this property in Parksville where we could have an apartment for my mother on the ground floor, and we would live upstairs. However, things did not go completely as planned and we are still in Thunder Bay. So after a while mom moved to the upstairs apartment as there was more light for her oil painting, and we rented the ground level apartment for several years. The last tenant of 6 years recently moved and we decided it was time to try something different, so voila!! Gindy's Getawy.
What makes this Apartment unique
We chose this property because we were able to make a suite for my mother downstairs. Over time she moved to the suite upstairs, as for family reasons we were not able to retire in Parksville. We always planned on retiring in Parksville, until my husband went to Arizona and fell in love with it. But we have not fully retired and still live in Thunder Bay. Mom says "no way" about returning to Thunder Bay. The climate on Vancouver Island is the best that Canada has to offer. So between renting downstairs, and upstairs, the mortgage is getting paid. I love vacationing in Parksville and come a couple times a year. We always find things close by that become favorite spots that we return to visit every year, and also find new ones as there is just so much to see and do. You can't do it all.
