While the guest described the stay as “nice,” the condition in which the property was left tells a very different story. The property has a strict no-party and no-smoking policy, with a maximum capacity of six guests. These rules were seriously disregarded when a gathering involving over 20 people took place at the property, accompanied by heavy smoking that left strong, persistent odors throughout the home. Addressing these odors required additional remediation and consideration of specialized air-purification equipment with advanced odor-removal capabilities. The property was also left with significant damage and an excessive mess. Three vases were broken, a closet door was damaged, a white desk was stained and a couch was burned by a cigarette. Trash and food waste were left throughout the property, including unopened meat in the sink, liquor and beer bottles, cake remnants, black balloons, disposable cups, and discarded clothing. Checkout procedures were also not followed. The violations of house rules, property damage, extensive cleanup, and persistent smoke odors resulted in substantial additional work and expense. This behavior demonstrated a serious lack of respect for the property and the clearly established house rules. I would not host this guest again and encourage other hosts to carefully consider these circumstances before accepting a reservation.
