Had such a fun stay at this place! The hosts were easy to contact and very helpful with addressing questions and providing recommendations. Place was stocked with all we needed and is close enough to downtown to easily Uber to and from.
Our family had a great stay here for 5 days. The location was very convenient to downtown areas, the ferries, and the university area. We loved feeding the chickens and playing paddle smash! Host was great and gave us everything we needed.

Thank you for being our guest, and I wish you would have let us know what was wrong with your stay to earn the very low, in fact, my lowest...ever review. I wish that we could have known you were so uncomfortable or that so many things went wrong so that we could have contacted VRBO to get you to a much better place for you and your guests. So sorry :(
Loved the home. We had five (two adults, three teens) and it was a perfect fit for us. We were not at home much but when we were home it was everything we needed. Pre-stocked with important essentials, parking was easy, amazing little court yard with chickens that gave us fresh eggs. Communication was perfect and kind. Great place to head south to downtown or north to for other great sites to see. Walkable restaurants, which is always a plus for me. Was very close to the highway and you could hear traffic at night, but it was just white noise to us.
We enjoyed the cottage which was full of character and history with all the necessary amenities and more. Adorable children's nook upstairs. Comfortable beds.
Perfect location.
We truly enjoyed our stay at the "chicken house". Jill provided so many amenities and we had fresh eggs whenever we wanted. The home was perfect for our week stay and we would certainly come back again!
We came for my daughter's UW graduation and LOVED the carriage house. Great location, adorable place with all the extra touches. We will definitely book again for futurw trips to Seattle.
Convenient location, lovely neighborhood, excellent hosts and clean!

Thank you John, I really appreciate your response, and we were thrilled to host you and your family as guests. Again, my most sincere apologies for so many little items that were out of place and the little confusion prior to arrival. We would love the opportunity to host you again anytime!! Enjoy your summer and thanks again for your patience!! Cheers- Jill
I needed a place for me and my adult son, plus two elderly relatives who use walkers and can’t manage stairs. This place is easy to get into, with 2 comfy bedrooms on the ground floor. I would definitely stay there again!

Thank you very much for your review and for being our guest! I am so glad you found the Carriage House comfortable and accommodating! Safe travels and come back anytime’
We had an absolutely wonderful stay at this charming cottage. The house was very clean, had everything we needed to feel at home, and the beds were very comfortable. What really set this experience apart, however, were the incredible hosts. From the moment we booked, they were thoughtful and attentive, but they truly went above and beyond when they learned that my daughter was injured skiing. They were so kind and accommodating, even moving things around to make her comfortable and able to navigate in a wheelchair. We would absolutely stay here again and highly recommend it!
My family really enjoyed the layout of the house - the upstairs is perfect for kids/teens to spread out and have their own space. Gathering eggs was a fun treat, as was walking to the market just down the alley. Elaine is a thoughtful host, and communication was great! We’d absolutely stay in the carriage house again.

Lovely house perfect for families with and without children
My family of four and my in laws stayed at the Carriage House over the weekend and were very pleased. The house has the guest and children in mind at every corner. The house is thoughtfully put together and the owners clearly have put a lot of thought and care into the house guest stay. I would happily recommend this house to anyone.

We stayed at this property for 3 nights before we took off on a cruise. The house was quaint and filled with nooks and crannies and things to do! Our toddler loved visiting the chickens and looking for eggs every day! The host, Jill, was great, very helpful, and very communicative! We really enjoyed staying at this property!

Beautiful, convenient and great for families with kids!
We had a great visit in Seattle despite being short. Their house was in a great location and had everything you would need along with charm to make it feel like home. The kids loved playing upstairs and playing with the chickens. When we return to Seattle, we will definitely consider the carriage house again.

Thank you so much for your review and we welcome you back to Seattle anytime. Meanwhile, stay safe and healthy!
We wanted a family friendly place to stay and found the best location! The Coachhouse was a wonderland to our 3 year old, and he loved saying hi to the Chickens in the back morning, afternoon and night!
Just a 10-15 minute drive anywhere you’d want to go in Seattle and while it was close the the highway, for us, the noise from the street was relaxing like white noise.
We would highly recommend this location.

About the host
Hosted by Jill McCormick
Both my husband and myself have grown up in the Pacific Northwest and love living and traveling around the area. We are active skiers, hikers and bikers. We are sadly, currently between dogs, but love having dogs around and keep our Carriage House pet friendly. We do have some fun city chickens that have filled our pet void for the time being.
Our three kids are grown and have flown the nest and are living independent lives and we are looking forward to being Grandparents soon!!
We have lived all over Seattle and love the Capitol Hill, Eastlake neighborhoods and have now, are enjoying the wonderful views of Portage Bay! This is a wonderful community tucked at the edge of four wonderful water features: Lake Washington, Lake Union, Portage Bay and the Montlake Cut. An easy and safe neighborhood to walk around to explore parks and restaurants and views.
While we both are still engaged with our professional lives, we love hosting guests in the Carriage House. It's fun to hear peoples stories of travel and to watch them explore our city. We take great pride in helping them enjoy their vacations, or making them feel comfortable and at home while visiting friends and family.
We work very hard to keep the Carriage House both authentic and in excellent shape. Linens and supplied items are kept clean and in operable condition and well stocked. We set high expectations for our traveling experiences and we aim to make sure our guests receive the same amount of care and forethought. We look forward to continuing with the care and attention that older buildings require, as this one is certainly worth having around! We take every opportunity to make it a better place at each check in and out.
Enjoy your time in Seattle!!!
Why they chose this property
Portage Bay is a hidden Seattle secret! Nestled at the intersections of North Capitol Hill, Eastlake and the University District, Portage Bay sits on the shores of the Montlake Cut. It's an easy walk from the Carriage House to Portage Bay, Lake Washington and Lake Union.
You can walk to Aqua Verde cafe and enjoy a cool drink, delicious Mexican food and rent a paddleboard or kayak. If you like parks, there are some of Seattle's best parks within walking distance. One of the major challenges in Seattle is our traffic, and our central location makes getting around Seattle less of an issue.
Even though we are in a city neighborhood, the Carriage House is surrounded by trees so our guests often feel like they have found a special little cottage in the city.
We are also lucky to have some of Seattle's best restaurants nearby. Feel free to reach out for any recommendations. One of Seattle's fun neighborhoods is Capitol Hill which is very convenient to our location. We are also just across the bridge from University of Washington and during football season, you will notice lots of Husky fans walking to the game.
We invite you to be our guest and find out why we love living here too!!
What makes this property unique
I think among other things that people find charming about this house, is that it was actually a functioning carriage home for many years. The actual 'carriage doors' were given to a restoration company when we purchased the property. The bedrooms and kitchen were horse stables and the bathroom was the tack room. The spiraling stairway up to the top was where they stored the hay!
It is made of stone and very thick insulation so that the upstairs area is actually very insulated from the downstairs area.
I can not imagine a more unique - historical property - so close to the city and walkable to neighborhood hot spots.
