About this property
Hidden Gems Along the Matumi Trail: Matumi Lodge and Mutzeeri Lodge.
On Amorentia Estate, along the Matumi Trail, where people walk amongst Giants, we have built two remarkable and totally secret, little log cabins: The Matumi Lodge and The Mutzeeri Lodge. Historic Timber, Reimagined in a Serene Forest Setting Rough-cut pine planks that were originally used to build The Barnyard Theatre at Stanford Lake College in 2002, have been repurposed to create finely crafted, self-contained, self-catering wooden cabins, built right on the banks of the perennial Mabitsi river, within the high Canopy rain forest.
These two, utterly secluded small lodges as they are referred to, are the ultimate exclusive getaway destination. You are put to sleep each night by the gurgle of the Mabitsi river, and it’s roar during the rainy season. A Walk Among Giants: Ancient Trees and Vibrant Clivia Blooms Matumi Lodge was built next to one of the oldest Matumi trees in the country, named “Lauren,” which is estimated to be nearly 2,560 years old. Along the 2.2-kilometer Matumi Trail, you’ll find five other large and old Matumi trees, as well as more than 10,000 Clivia plants that line both sides of the path.
Along the Matumi Trail, you will also find the oldest and largest Matumi tree in the country, with an age estimated at over 2,700 years. Family-Friendly Forest Retreat with Easy Access and Scenic Trails Suitable for a family of four (or five with a squeeze), are located just 23 km from Tzaneen, at the end of a well-maintained 6 km dirt road. The Grootbosch Road and Amorentia Estate are both clearly marked on Google Maps.
Visitors have access to walk the Clivia Trail (www.cliviatrail.co.za) and The Matumi Trail, at no extra charge, while staying in either one of the two forest lodges.
