A Work in Progress?
We weren’t made aware this was a work in progress. We arrived around 9 PM and were welcomed by a disheveled patio area with trash and cigarette butts. A large pile of unfinished wood trim greeted us in the entryway. The house was 83 degrees, so we cut on the mini-split downstairs and the window units in two of the bedrooms. There was only a fan for the third bedroom. The kitchen was well-stocked, but the veneer was peeling off the cabinets and things were generally grungy. The trashcan bottom was black and growing up the sides. The folding doors to the laundry closet were carelessly propped against the wall in the hallway, a load of wet laundry still in the washing machine itself. There were outlets and switches without covers. The carpet might have been spot vacuumed, but there was trash and dirty dishes under the beds. The wall outside of the upstairs shower isn’t finished, leaving the water pipes exposed next to the toilet, and this is where you cut the shower on and off (rather than inside the shower). The lawn was over a foot tall, so there would’ve been no way to enjoy the yard or playground. Around 11 PM, the water to the entire house stopped running completely. So we cleaned up the best we could and left the property around midnight. The owner, Chris, responded that night to let me know he would issue a refund but I never heard from him again. Thankfully, a VRBO rep was available to address our issues and took care of us.
